Nell’ultima settimana del gennaio scorso (27.01.2026), si è tenuta a Taiwan la Dodicesima Assemblea delle Commissioni bibliche di lingua cinese. L’evento, che si è svolto dopo 8 anni di pausa dovuti a situazioni estreme, ha visto radunati al Centro di Spiritualità “Monte delle Beatitudini” (Zhen Fu Shan) di GaoXiong quasi 200 partecipanti. Molti provenivano dall’Australia, dalla Malesia, da Singapore, oltre che da Taiwan e Hong Kong. Assenti i rappresentanti delle Commissioni Cinesi.

Mi hanno dato l’incarico di svolgere, in questi incontri, un tema interessante, in parti distinte eppure logicamente interconnesse: “Guerra nella Bibbia”. “In riferimento alla presente situazione”. “Sognando un mondo senza guerra”. Ho cercato di fare del mio meglio, senza pretese. Sembra che gli ascoltatori, persone molto impegnate al servizio della Sacra Scrittura nelle loro Diocesi, siano state contente. In Oriente molti si chiedono perché l’Antico Testamento è pieno di guerre e di violenza. Ho cercato di spiegare la ragione, spero in modo risolutorio.

In the last week of January (27.01.2026), the Twelfth Assembly of the Chinese-Language Biblical Commissions was held in Taiwan. The event, which took place after an eight-year hiatus due to external circumstances, brought together nearly 200 participants at the "Mount of Beatitudes" Spirituality Center (Zhen Fu Shan) in Gaoxiong. Many came from Australia, Malaysia, Singapore, as well as Taiwan and Hong Kong. Representatives of the Chinese Commissions were absent.

I was tasked with developing an interesting topic in these meetings, divided into distinct yet logically interconnected sections: “War in the Bible”. “Regarding the current situation”. “Dreaming of a world without war”.

I tried my best, without pretensions. It seems that the listeners, people deeply committed to the service of Sacred Scripture in their dioceses, were pleased. In the East, many wonder why the Old Testament is full of wars and violence. I have tried to explain the reason, hopefully in a decisive way.
