Lo scorso 2 ottobre, a Shinmeizan, si è svolto il quindicesimo Incontro interreligioso biennale di preghiera per la pace a cui hanno partecipato vari rappresentanti delle Tradizioni religiose locali: Shintoismo, Buddhismo Tendai, Nichiren, Zen, Terra Pura; Oomoto, Tenrikyo, Risshokoseikai, tutti partner di dialogo, con cui da anni intratteniamo rapporti di amicizia e collaborazione. Da parte cristiana, hanno partecipato i rappresentanti della Chiesa luterana. Per l’occasione, anche il superiore regionale dei Missionari saveriani in Giappone, P. Felipe de Jesús López Orozco sx, ha voluto condividere questo momento di preghiera e di amicizia interreligiosa.

Dopo il saluto di accoglienza di P. Franco Sottocornola sx, ogni rappresentante ha pregato per la pace secondo la propria tradizione. Al termine, tutti insieme, abbiamo recitato la preghiera di S. Francesco d’Assisi, Signore fa’ di me uno strumento della tua pace. Il clima di preghiera è stato particolarmente intenso e fraterno. Certamente il disagio della guerra in atto tra Russia e Ucraina, aggravata dalle crescenti tensioni internazionali, ha dato alla preghiera un afflato particolare nella consapevolezza che le religioni possono e devono essere veicoli di pace. Una consapevolezza espressa anche dalle firme che i vari partecipanti hanno apposto a una dichiarazione di comune e condiviso impegno a servizio della pace.

Al termine dell’incontro, P. Claudio Codenotti sx, nuovo responsabile di Shinmeizan, ha rivolto un saluto a tutti i presenti ringraziandoli della loro attiva partecipazione all’incontro auspicandone la continuità.

La giornata si è conclusa con un vivace momento di convivialità che, grazie al bel tempo, abbiamo potuto trascorrere all’aperto. Un momento di scambio da tutti atteso e desiderato che ha rinsaldato i vincoli di amicizia e di collaborazione. (Franco Sottocornola sx) 

Last October 2^nd, the 15^th biennial Interreligious Meeting of Prayer for Peace was held in Shinmeizan, Japan. Several representatives of local religious Traditions took part in the meeting, including representatives of Shintoism, Tendai Buddhism, Nichiren, Zen, Pure Land, Oomoto, Tenrikyo and Risshokoseikai. They are all partners of dialogue with whom we have been maintaining relations of friendship and collaboration for years. The participants of the Christian side came from the Lutheran Church. On that occasion, also the regional superior of the Xaverian missionaries in Japan, Fr. Felipe de Jesús López Orozco s.x., wanted to share the moment of interreligious prayer and friendship.

After a welcoming address by Fr. Franco Sottocornola s.x., each representative prayed for peace in accordance with his own tradition. At the end, together we all read St Francis of Assisi’s prayer, Lord, make of me an instrument of your peace. The mood of prayer was particularly intense and brotherly. Certainly, the uneasiness deriving from the current war between Russian and Ukraine, which is worsened by growing international tensions, added a particular inspiration to the prayer, for we are aware that religions can and must be vehicles of peace. This awareness appears well expressed also in the signatures that the various participants put on a declaration of common commitment at the service of peace.

At the end of the meeting, Fr. Claudio Codenotti s.x., new director of Shinmeizan, greeted all those present and thanked them for their active participation in the meeting, expressing also the hope that these meetings will continue.

The day concluded with a cheerful moment of conviviality which, thanks to the beautiful weather, could be spent outdoor. It has been a moment of exchange waited for and wished by everyone – an event which fostered our friendly ties and our collaboration. (Franco Sottocornola s.x.)
