Su nostra richiesta, p. Francesco Cavallo sx, membro della comunità di Salerno- Italia ha scritto di suo pugno (15 ottobre 2022) e condiviso alcuni pensieri della sua vita saveriana.

Il 16 novembre prossimo, p. Francesco compirà 103 anni (nato: 16/11/1919. Numero di professione religiosa e missionaria: 293).

Mi si chiede di dire qualcosa della mia vita. Che dirò? Non ho conosciuto San Guido M. Conforti, morto circa dieci anni prima che io entrassi nella nostra casa del Noviziato. Ebbi però la grazia di conoscere lo stile di vita da lui inculcato ai membri dell’Istituto Saveriano da lui fondato: uno stile di vita che consiste nell’assidua preghiera e nell’impegno di coltivare una sempre crescente intimità amorosa con Cristo presente nell’Eucaristia. Da tale impegno scaturisce la volontà missionaria di far conoscere e amare Gesù Cristo da tutte le genti. Ricordo che negli anni Quaranta del secolo scorso la cappella della nostra “Casa Madre”, a Parma, non era priva di adoratori. Stare accanto a Cristo è il paradiso sulla terra ed è anche la ragione per far conoscere Gesù: “sia da tutti conosciuto e amato nostro Signore Gesù Cristo”.

Negli anni da me trascorsi come maestro dei novizi, nacque e rapidamente si diffuse nelle università e nelle scuole superiori la cosiddetta “contestazione” che riduceva notevolmente l’importanza della virtù dell’obbedienza. Naturalmente non condivisi tale falsa e ribelle dottrina.

Da oltre 60 anni, per esplicita volontà dei vescovi, esercito la facoltà di fare gli esorcismi a coloro che sono molestati da Satana o da altri spiriti maligni.

Concludo dicendo che fra poche settimane (il 16 novembre prossimo) ringrazierò il Signore per avermi concesso di vivere, adorarlo, amarlo e ringraziarlo per 103 anni.

Nacqui il 16 novembre 1919. La persona che si recò all’ufficio dell’anagrafe dichiarò che ero nato il 2 gennaio 1920, allo scopo di ritardare di un anno il mio servizio militare che a quell’epoca era obbligatorio per tutti i giovani.

In answer to our request, Fr. Francesco Cavallo s.x., member of the community in Salerno, Italy, wrote by himself and shared some thoughts about his Xaverian life. Next November 16^th, Fr. Francesco will turn 103 (he was born on November 16^th, 1919; his number of religious and missionary profession is 293).

“I have been asked to say something about my life. What can I say? I did not meet St Guido M. Conforti, who died about ten years before I entered our Novitiate house. However, I had the grace to learn the lifestyle he had instilled into the members of the Xaverian Institute he had founded: a lifestyle consisting of constant prayer and the determination to cultivate an ever growing intimacy of love with Christ present in the Eucharist. It is from such commitment that the missionary’s will to bring all peoples to the knowledge and love of Jesus Christ originates. I remember that in 1940s the chapel of our Mother House in Parma did not lack worshippers. To remain close to Christ is Heaven on earth and also the reason for making Christ known: May our Lord Jesus Christ be known and loved by all.

In the years I spent as master of novices, the so-called “protest” (contestazione), a movement that reduced the importance of the virtue of obedience quite considerably, arose and quickly circulated in universities and high schools. Naturally, I did not agree with that false and rebel doctrine.  

For more than 60 years, at the behest of the bishops, I perform exorcisms on those who are molested by Satan or other malign spirits. 

I conclude by saying that in few weeks (next November 16^th) I will thank the Lord for allowing me to live, worship Him, loving Him and thanking Him for 103 years.”

I was born on November 16^th, 1919. The person who went to the register office declared that I was born on January 2^nd, 1920, so as to delay for one year my military service, which was then mandatory for all young men.
