L’Archivio Storico dei Missionari Saveriani di Roma, noto dal 2016 anche come “Centro Documentazione Saveriani Roma”, rappresenta un tesoro inestimabile non solo per la Direzione Generale, ma anche per tutte le circoscrizioni saveriane sparse per il mondo, e per gli amici dei Saveriani. L’Archivio custodisce una collezione di libri, epistolari, documenti e materiali riguardanti studi, iniziative e attività svolte in diverse parti del globo, che testimoniano la ragione della missione nel concreto espandersi della Parola attraverso la comunità e la prassi operativa. Il biblio-archivio, composto di testi di Saveriani e altri autori, mostra l’impegno che ha animato i Saveriani nell’approccio alle varie culture in cui hanno operato, a partire dallo studio delle lingue, degli usi e costumi e delle religioni. Documenti e testimonianze sono una finestra sul mondo, che apre lo sguardo sulla ricchezza della prospettiva umana e spirituale di molti. Attraverso lettere, diari, fotografie e materiali multimediali emergono oggi tracce sorprendenti degli sforzi compiuti per conoscere, comprendere e rispettare le molteplici identità culturali.
THE “XAVERIANS’ DOCUMENTATION CENTRE” (ROME): AN INTRODUCTION
Our confrere, Fr. Oliviero Verzelletti, Archivist and Director of CDSR (Centro Documentazione Saveriani Roma), introduces one of the General Direction’s offices at the service of the entire Congregation and more.
Fr. Oliviero writes:
The Archivio Storico (Historical Archive) of the Xaverian Missionaries in Rome, which since 2016 has become known as Centro Documentazione Saveriani Roma, represents an invaluable treasure not only for the General Direction, but also for all the Xaverian Circumscriptions around the world, and for the friends of the Xaverians. The Archive preserves a collection of books, letters, documents and material about studies, initiatives and activities carried out in different parts of the globe, which bear witness to the raison d’être of the mission in the concrete expansion of the Word through the community and its praxis. The biblio-archive contains texts by Xaverian and other authors; it attests to the commitment which drove the Xaverians in their approach to the various culture where they operated, including the study of language, habits and customs, and religions. These documents and testimonies are a window open onto the world; they direct one’s attention to the richness of the human and spiritual perspective of many. Today, the letters, diaries, photographs and multi-media materials still reveal traces of the astonishing efforts exerted in order to know, appreciate and respect the multiplicity of cultural identities.
