P. Nino, autentico e sincero Missionario Saveriano, figlio devoto del Servo di Dio Guido Maria Conforti, nacque a S. Nazzaro d'Ongina (PC) il 20.VIII.1903. Accolto tra i Saveriani dallo stesso Fondatore nel Novembre 1916, studiò prima in Casa Madre a Parma quindi a Vicenza. Durante gli anni della formazione egli curò, accanto allo studio, la sua particolare inclinazione per la musica suonando molto bene il bombardino nella banda saveriana e fungendo da Direttore della "Schola Cantorum". Fu pure uno dei protagonisti del primo film saveriano "Nel Nido degli Aquilotti".
Ordinato Sacerdote dal Venerato Fondatore nella Cattedrale di Parma il Sabato Santo 7.IV.1928, ebbe l'ambito privilegio di partire subito per le Missioni della Cina accompagnando il Servo di Dio che si imbarcava a Marsiglia sul "Paul Lecat" il 19.IX.1928.
Nei vent'anni di continua permanenza in Cina lavorò pastoralmente a Cheng-chow come aiutante nella Cattedrale, e come Rettore del Seminario, quindi nel Distretto di Lushan; passò poi nel Vicariato di Loyang come Parroco della Cattedrale e Giudice del Tribunale Ecclesiastico.
In giugno 1942 fu condotto anch'egli in campo di concentramento a Sichaw: qui contribuì con il suo carattere gioioso a rasserenare la comune sofferenza dei Missionari. Terminata la guerra, nel settembre 1945 fu trasferito a Shanchow come Direttore del Distretto e quindi di nuovo a Loyang.
Nel marzo 1947 ricevette l'obbedienza di tornare in Italia per assumere la Direzione del nuovo Studentato Filosofico Saveriano di Desio, ove rimase per sei anni, fino al 1953 quando fu nominato Rettore della Casa di Cremona. Terminato un secondo triennio, fu chiamato dal Superiore Generale a Parma come Direttore Spirituale dello Studentato Teologico e della Casa Madre.
Iniziò il nuovo delicato ruolo con molto entusiasmo e con propositi di intenso lavoro.
La sera del 25.1.1960, giorno ultimo dell'Ottavario di Preghiere per l'Unità dei Cristiani, si era intrattenuto a lungo dopo cena con il P. Generale e con P. Vanzin trattando argomenti di formazione e riandando alla vita vissuta in Congregazione ed in Cina. Nulla faceva supporre una morte così vicina e così breve.
Colpito da infarto cardiaco, emise l'ultimo respiro alle ore 0,30 circa del 26.I. 1960, nella stanza n° 33 del secondo piano ala della Casa Madre. Nelle poche ore di dura sofferenza ebbe la lucidità di ripetere diverse giaculatorie e saluti:
"È giunta la mia ora...! Pregate, pregate... che dolore!... Andiamo in Paradiso... Offro la mia sofferenza per l'unità dei Cristiani, per la Cina, per i miei Cristiani... Mi saluti il Padre Generale... Come mi dispiace di avere disturbato!...".

Fr. Nino Ferrari died at the Mother House of Parma in the early hours of the morning of Jan. 26 1960, of a heart attack. He was 56 years old, born on Aug. 20 1903 at S. Nazzaro d’Ongina (Piacenza).
He entered the Xaverians at Parma in Nov. 1916, welcomed by the Founder whom he admired and loved. He continued his studies at Vicenza, and developed an artistic sense in his formation, by playing music with his bombardino (tuba) and joining the Xaverian Band, and directing the “Schola Cantorum.” He was also one of the main protagonists of the first Xaverian movie “Nel Nido degli Aquilotti.” (= The Eagle’s Nest)
He was ordained priest in the Cathedral of Parma on Holy Saturday Apr. 7 1928 by Bishop Conforti, and soon after accompanied the Founder on his visit of the Xaverians in China, leaving from Marseilles on the “Paul Lecat” on Sept. 19 1928.
He served in China for about 20 years, working in parishes at Cheng-chow as Assistant at the Cathedral, as Rector of the Seminary, and in the district of Lushan. Then he moved to the Vicariate of Loyang as the Cathedral’s Rector and Judge in the Ecclesiastic Tribunal.
He joined the other Xaverians in the concentration camp at Sichaw in June 1942, where he entertained his confreres with his joyous spirit, even during difficult times. At the end of the war, in Sept. 1945 he is at Shanchow as District Director, and then in Loyang.
In March 1947 he is called back to Italy as Rector of the Philosophy Students of Desio, a place he served for six years. Then he is named rector of the Cremona house in 1953, for another six years. Finally, he is called by the Superior General to be Spiritual Director of the Theology Students at Parma and the Mother House.
He was an authentic and sincere Xaverian Missionary. He entered this delicate work with much enthusiasm and purposefulness. On the evening of Jan. 25 1960, which was the last day of the week of Prayer for Christian Unity, he spent quite some time with the Superior General and Fr. Vanzin talking about many things: the formation work, the life of the Congregation, his China work.
No one would have suspected that his death was imminent. At about 12:30 am of Jan. 26 1960 he had a massive heart attack, in room #33 of the Second Floor of the West Wing of the Mother House, followed by some lucid moments when he was heard saying the following words. “My time has come… Pray, pray… What a suffering!… Let’s go in Paradise… I offer my pains for the unity of Christians, for China, for my Christians… Greet for me the Superior General… I am sorry I disturbed you!”
