(1927 – 2020)
Verso le ore 03:25 del 12 marzo 2020, è morto a Parma, in Casa Madre, il P. Nicola Masi. Aveva 92 anni, essendo nato Priverno (Latina – IT) il giorno 11.05.1927.
Affascinato da un missionario saveriano reduce dalla Cina e di passaggio a Priverno, nel 1938 il giovane Nicola decide di entrare nella casa saveriana di Poggio San Marcello, dove inizia a frequentare le scuole medie (1938-1940), scuole completate poi a Vicenza (1940-1941). In seguito Nicola passa a Grumone per il ginnasio (1941-1943), e a S. Pietro in Vincoli per il Noviziato (1943-1944).
Dopo la prima professione religiosa-missionaria (avvenuta a Parma il 05.11.1944) Nicola continua con il consueto iter scolastico-formativo: studi liceali a Castel Sidoli (1944-1945) e a Parma (1945-1947), prefettato a Udine (1947-1948), studi di teologia a Parma (1948-1949) e a Piacenza (1949-1952).
Dopo l’ordinazione sacerdotale (avvenuta a Piacenza il 29.03.1952) p. Nicola viene destinato a Desio
come insegnante (1952-1953). In seguito va a Roma per studiare Diritto Canonico alla Gregoriana (1953-1956). Dopo aver conseguito la Laurea, a p. Masi viene chiesto il servizio di insegnante nella Teologia di Piacenza (1956-1958) e, poi, nella Teologia di Parma (1958-1967). In questo periodo fa molti viaggi oltr’Alpe alla ricerca di benefattori che adottassero gli studenti saveriani per accompagnarli economicamente negli studi. In seguito p. Masi viene nominato Direttore del Segretariato per le Missioni (1972-1975).
Nel 1976 p. Nicola parte per il Brasile Nord. Qui viene destinato alla città di Belém dove svolge vari servizi: insegnante (1978-1994); Vice parroco a S. Domingo (1976-1978), Parroco a S. Francisco Xavier (1985-1994). Dopo un anno di riposo-aggiornamento (1994-1995) p. Nicola viene destinato alla città di Abaetetuba dove svolge il servizio di Vice parroco a N.S. Conc. - Cattedrale (1996-2010) e di Procuratore Diocesano (1998-2000).
Nel 2010 p. Nicola rientra in Italia per cure. Dopo un periodo passato in famiglia (2010-2016), viene destinato alla comunità del Collegio Conforti a Roma (2016-2019) dove aiuta nel ministero.
Al fine di attendere meglio alla sua salute, nel luglio del 2019 p. Nicola si trasferisce a Parma. Qui, la notte del 12 marzo 2020, p. Nicola viene portato dagli Angeli al cospetto dell’Altissimo per ricevere la ricompensa del servitore buono e fedele.

Fr. Nicola Masi died on March 12th, 2020, at around 3:25 am, in the Mother House of Parma. He was born on May 11th, 1927 in the town of Priverno (Latina – IT), and was now 92 years old.
Fascinated by a Xaverian Missionary who had returned from China and was, then, passing through the town of Priverno, in 1938, young Nicola Masi decided to enter the Xaverian House in Poggio San Marcello, where he attended Middle School (1938-1940). Later he went to Xaverian House in Vicenza (IT) (1940-1941). Later Nicola transferred to the Xaverian House of Grumone for his High School years (1941-1943); then he went to San Pietro in Vincoli (Ravenna – IT) for his Novitiate year.
After the celebration of his First Religious Missionary Profession, which took place in Parma on May 11th, 1944, Nicola continued with his spiritual and intellectual formation in Castel Sidoli (1944-1945) and in Parma (1945-1947). He spent one year in Udine (1947-1948) as Prefect of young students. At the end of it, Nicola moved to Parma for his Studies of Theology (1948-1949) and then to Piacenza (1949-1952).
After his Ordination to the Priesthood, which took place in Piacenza on March 29th, 1952, Fr. Nicola Masi was assigned as teacher in the Xaverian House of Desio (MI – IT) (1952-1953). Then, in 1953-1956, Fr. Nicola Masi was in Rome to study Canon Law at the Gregorian University. At the end of his studies, Fr. Nicola Masi was asked to teach Canon Law to the young Xaverian Theology Students, first, in Piacenza (1956-1958), later, in Parma (1958-1967). During this period he took many trips to Germany to search for benefactors, who could help the Xaverian Theology Students to continue with their study curriculum and mission formation. From 1972 to 1975, Fr. Nicola Masi was named Director for the Missions.
In the year 1976, Fr. Nicola Masi left for mission work and ministry in Brazil North. Assigned to the Xaverian House in Belèm, he was very active in various services: teacher (1978-1994), Assistant Parish Priest at St. Domingo (1976-1978), Parish Priest at St. Francisco Xavier (1985-1994). After one year of rest and updating (1994-1995), Fr. Nicola Masi was assigned to minister in the city of Abaetetuba. There he was Assistant Parish Priest (1996-2010) of N. S. Conc.–Cathedral, and, also, Diocesan Procurator (1998-2000).
In the year 2010, Fr. Nicola Masi returned to Italy to take care of his health. After a period spent with his family (2010-2016), Fr. Masi was assigned to the International Xaverian College House in Via Aurelia, Rome, (2016-2019). There he gave a considerable assistance to the ministry in the city and in the area.
In 2019, to provide better care for his health, Fr. Nicola Masi was transferred to Parma. In Parma, during the night of March 12th, 2020, Fr. Nicola Masi was brought by the Angels to the presence of the Most High to receive the reward of the faithful and good servant.
May he, now, rest in the arms of the merciful Father.
