Commissione Generale per la Formazione di Base (CGFB)

1. Genesi e ricostituzione

XVII CG 59. Orientamento. Al fine di coordinare e armonizzare l’attività della ‘Formazione nella Famiglia Saveriana’, il XVII CG ha analizzato la possibilità di ricostituire il Segretariato Generale della formazione. L’assemblea capitolare affida alla Direzione Generale il compito di concretizzare, eventualmente, questo orientamento.

Commissione Formazione

Come indicato dall’orientamento 59 del XVII CG, la Direzione Generale (DG) ha deciso di creare una Commissione della Formazione al fine di coordinare e armonizzare l’attività della Formazione nella Famiglia saveriana. La commissione, formata da rappresentanti di ogni continente, si è riunita una sola volta, dal 18 al 24 gennaio 2019, a Roma, con molta soddisfazione da parte di tutti. È stato soprattutto un lavoro di ascolto e di condivisione che ci ha aiutato a capire meglio quello che sta succedendo nei nostri contesti, osservando come un nuovo volto della Congregazione si stia delineando. Si era poi preparato il Convegno della formazione iniziale del 2020, in occasione dell’apertura dell’anno giubilare dei 100 anni dalla Lettera Testamento e delle Costituzioni, poi annullato a causa della pandemia da Covid-19. Questo Convegno era stato programmato per fine giugno-primi di luglio del 2020. L’organizzazione era ormai completata quando la pandemia ci ha obbligato a cancellarlo, improvvisamente nell’aprile 2020. I contenuti più rilevanti si sono pubblicati sul sito web della DG e altri materiali sono stati condivisi per email. (Relazione DG al XVIII CG, pag.34)

XVIII CG, Formazione di Base (73-83):

Per sostenere e accompagnare i formatori, il Capitolo suggerisce di continuare la buona pratica: c) della Commissione generale della formazione di base (77 c)

Programmazione della Direzione Generale per il sessennio 2023-2029:

Formazione di base. Partendo dagli orientamenti e delibere del XVIII CG, si programma quanto segue nell’ambito della Formazione di Base: c) Per accompagnare e sostenere i formatori, verranno assicurati i seguenti passi: - La ricostituzione della Commissione generale per la Formazione di Base (pag.10).

Ciò è avvenuto nel primo consiglio della nuova Direzione Generale in ottobre 2023.

Nella sua composizione la DG ha seguito fondamentalmente tre criteri: che i membri scelti abbiano una esperienza nel campo formativo e missionario, privilegiare l’interculturalità e che i quattro continenti dove siamo presenti siano rappresentati.

Perché è stata ricostituita la CGFB?  Questa commissione è sì una risposta alla richiesta fattaci dal XVIII CG, ma soprattutto perché crediamo che il compito di animazione dell’Istituto affidato alla Direzione Generale, deve essere condiviso con confratelli che sono direttamente coinvolti nella loro realizzazione. Si tratta quindi, concretamente per noi qui presenti, di portare insieme, in una maniera corresponsabile, l’attività della Formazione di Base nella nostra Famiglia saveriana, rispettando evidentemente i diversi gradi di responsabilità.

  Contro gli automatismi e per distinguere la consacrazione religiosa dal conferimento dei ministeri ordinati, sosteniamo per i nostri candidati un cammino formativo personalizzato, il cui obiettivo è rimettere la missione al centro della formazione (XVIII CG 73 b)

• Separazione Consacrazione missionaria e ordinazione presbiterale
• Rompere gli automatismi.
• Personalizzazione dei processi formativi.

3. Sfide della Formazione di Base nella Famiglia saveriana

• Una Formazione di Base al servizio del Primo annuncio del Vangelo (C 9).
• Il cambio antropologico epocale esige un rinnovamento nel cammino formativo.
• Saper leggere e interpretare il background del candidato.
• La personalizzazione nella formazione di base.
• Formare a vivere nell’interculturalità.
• Formare a vivere nell’intergenerazionalità.
• Appartenenza cordiale e totale alla Famiglia saveriana.
• Formare nella vita religiosa (i voti).
• Reperire formatori disposti e adeguati.

4. Attività principali della CGFB

Coordinare e armonizzare l’attività della ‘Formazione nella Famiglia Saveriana’

• Accompagnare le comunità formative.
• Reperire formatori e accompagnatori spirituali adeguati.
• Segretariati continentali per la Formazione di Base.
• Accompagnamento dei percorsi formativi personalizzati.
• Valutazione dei percorsi formativi.
• Proposte delle iniziative per il miglioramento della formazione.
• Collaborare nella realizzazione della Programmazione della DG per il sessennio per ciò che riguarda la Formazione di Base.

5. In conclusione:

Ricordiamo il ruolo importante che la CGFB è chiamata a giocare nell’accompagnamento e formazione dei giovani che iniziano a camminare nella vita saveriana. Il futuro saveriano sarà in buona misura frutto del percorso formativo realizzato.

Greeting and opening remarks GD

Greetings to the members of the General Commission for Basic Formation (GCBF)

1. Genesis and Reconstitution

XVII GC 59. Orientation. In order to coordinate and harmonize the activity of  the 'Formation in the Xaverian Family,' the XVII GC analyzed the possibility of reconstituting the General Secretariat for Formation. The Chapter Assembly entrusts the General Direction with the task of eventually concretizing this orientation.

Formation Commission

As indicated by the orientation 59 of the XVII GC, the General Direction (GD) decided to create a Formation Commission in order to coordinate and harmonize Formation activities in the Xaverian Family. The commission, made up of representatives from each continent, met once, from January 18-24, 2019, in Rome, with much satisfaction from all. It was above all a work of listening and sharing that helped us to better understand what is happening in our contexts, observing how a new face of the Congregation is emerging. Preparations had then been made for the 2020 Initial Formation Convention to mark the opening of the 100^th anniversary jubilee year of the Testament Letter and Constitutions, which was later cancelled due to the Covid-19 pandemic outbreak. This conference had been scheduled for late June-early July 2020. The organization was now completed when the pandemic forced us to cancel it, suddenly in April 2020. The most relevant content was posted on the GD website and other materials were shared by email. (GD Report to XVIII GC, p.34)

XVIII GC, Basic Formation (73-83):

To support and accompany the formators, the Chapter suggests continuing the good practice: c) of the General Commission on Basic Training (77 c)

General Direction's planning for the sexennium 2023-2029:

Basic Formation. Building on the orientations and deliberations of the XVIII GC, the following is planned in the area of Basic Formation: c) To accompany and support formators, the following steps will be ensured: - The reconstitution of the General Commission for Basic Formation (p. 10).

This took place in the first council of the new GD in October 2023.

In its composition, the GD basically followed three criteria: that the members chosen have experience in the field of formation and missionary work, privilege interculturality, and that the four continents where we are present be represented.

Why was the GCBF reconstituted?  This commission is yes a response to the request made to us by the XVIII GC, but above all because we believe that the task of animation of the Institute entrusted to the General Direction, must be shared with confreres who are directly involved in their realization. It is therefore, concretely for us here present, a matter of bringing together, in a co-responsible manner, the activity of Basic Formation in our Xaverian Family, obviously respecting the different degrees of responsibility.

  Against automatisms and in order to distinguish religious consecration from the conferring of ordained ministries, we advocate for our candidates a personalized formation journey, the goal of which is to put mission back at the center of formation (XVIII GC 73 b)
  • Separation of the Missionary consecration and the presbyteral ordination.
  • Breaking automatisms.
  • Personalization of formation processes.

3. Challenges of Basic Formation in the Xaverian Family

• A Basic Formation at the Service of the First Proclamation of the Gospel (C 9).
• The epochal anthropological change demands a renewal in the formation journey.
• Knowing how to read and interpret the candidate's background.
• Personalization in basic formation.
• Forming to live in interculturality.
• Forming to live in intergenerationality.
• Cordial and total belonging to the Xaverian Family.
• Forming in religious life (the vows).
• Finding willing and appropriate formators.

4. Main activities of the GCBF

To Coordinate and harmonize the activity of the 'Formation in the Xaverian Family'

• Accompany the formation communities.
• Finding suitable formators and spiritual directors.
• Continental secretariats for Basic Formation.
• Accompanying personalized formation paths.
• Evaluation of formation paths.
• Proposing initiatives for the improvement of formation.
• Collaborate in the implementation of the GD's Planning for the sexennium with regard to Basic Formation.

5. In conclusion

We recall the important role that the GCBF is called to play in the accompaniment and formation of young people who are beginning to walk in the Xaverian life. The Xaverian future will to a good extent be the fruit of the formation path realized.
