Final profession 2021
Two of our brothers are getting ready to give A TOTAL AND DEFINITIVE YES TO THE LORD’S CALL. They began the path of consecration to the Lord some years ago. They did it because they felt in their hearts that God loved them, and by loving them, He entrusted to them his mission; they have been experiencing years of prayer, learning about religious-missionary life, missionary apostolate, and fraternal life in an intercultural community.
Now they are taking another step on the path of the consecration to the Lord at the service of the mission that the Church has entrusted to the Xaverian Missionaries.
They are Augustine Byamungu and Pasteur Mugisho from the Democratic Republic of Congo. In this video they are answering the following questions: Why is it worth it for a young man like you to consecrate his whole life to God under the model of Conforti and his missionary family? and What is your understanding about your consecrated life?
Mugisho Bisimwa Pasteur
As a young boy, I grew up in a Christian family that is committed to Church activities. This commitment of the parents is also extended to the family household where my parents try their best to provide us with good education and genuine spiritual life. In the process of discerning God's call, I have come to realize that who I am and everything I have is just the result of God's love and benevolence towards me. The breath, the life I own, comes from God. If all of these things including the Christian life and the grace of salvation are freely granted to me, then consecrating myself to God's mission is nothing but an act of gratitude to my Creator.
You may ask, why to do this under the model of St. Guido M. Conforti and the Xaverian Family. Well, before entering the formation house, I had the opportunity to choose between the Diocesan, the Missionaries of Africa, and the Xaverians. I chose the Xaverian Missionaries because of the captivating project of St. Guido to make the world a single Family in Christ, starting from those who do not know Christ yet. And we do this as a religious and a missionary.
I consider my consecration to God as a commitment, a total and exclusive gift of self to God for the divine service, i.e., for the proclamation of the Gospel.
Augustine Byamungu, SX
As Xavierians, we are consecrated for the mission, to proclaim the Good News to the non-Christians, responding to the Lord’s mandate “Go out to the whole world, proclaim the Good News to all creation” (MK 16:15). This is our charism as revealed to Saint Guido Maria Conforti, and a way to sanctification. For me, it is worthwhile to consecrate my life following the model of Conforti, because of God’s love and mercy towards me which invite me too to participate in His salvific mission, to make our brothers and sisters who don’t know Christ yet, to experience also His love. We are living in a world characterized by a big diversity of religions, cultures and traditions with which we have to journey in dialogue in order let the love of Christ be at the center of everything, to make the world a single family. On this, mission is still an emergency. As Xavierian, I see it worthwhile to witness of Christ among our brothers and Sisters non-Christians. For me, it is essential to carry out this mission from my young age and for life, aware that God loves me, and that I received the gift of faith gratuitously, and freely, I have to share it to others.
My life is a gift from God; I greatly desire to consecrate it for the mission forever.
