Dal 10 al 12 settembre 2023, la sorella Maria De Giorgi, delle Missionarie di Maria - Saveriane ha rappresentato, su invito, Shinmeizan al 37° incontro internazionale “Uomini e Religioni” convocato dalla Comunità di Sant’Egidio, tenutosi quest’ anno a Berlino, Germania. La partecipazione di Shinmeizan a questo evento annuale ha una lunga storia, che inizia ancora prima dell’avvio dell’evento stesso! A seguito del primo grande convegno di rappresentanti delle religioni mondiali tenutosi ad Assisi nel 1986, la Comunità di Sant’Egidio, pensando ad una continuazione annuale dell’evento, inviò quattro dei suoi giovani rappresentanti in Giappone, dove pure a partire dal 1987 si avviò una continuazione dell’ evento di Assisi ad opera della sede centrale del Buddhismo Tendai, sul monte Hiei (Kyoto), cuore del Buddhismo giapponese. Su suggerimento del vescovo Pietro Rossano (Segretario del Segretariato per i non cristiani, 1973-1982, e Rettore della Pontificia Università Lateranense, 1982-1991), loro assistente spirituale, che era stato invitato in Giappone l’anno precedente per tenere incontri sul dialogo interreligioso per i Saveriani, le Missionarie di Maria-Saveriane e i Missionari del PIME, insieme al Ven Furukawa Tairyu, capo del Tempio Seimeizan-Scweitzer (dove a quel tempo p. Franco Sottocornola viveva, mentre si occupava della fondazione di Shinmeizan), questi quattro giovani vennero in visita al Tempio Seimeizan-Schweitzer dove sostarono per alcuni giorni, e da allora tennero vivi i rapporti di amicizia e collaborazione sia con il tempio Seimeizan-Schweitzer sia con Shinmeizan, invitando entrambi agli eventi interreligiosi internazionali che anche la comunità di Sant’ Egidio avviò a partire dall’ anno 1987. From September 10^th to 12^th, 2023, sister Maria De Giorgi of the Xaverian Missionary Sister of Mary was invited to represent Shinmeizan at the 37^th international meeting “Men and Religions” called by the St Egidio Community. This year the meeting took place in Berlin, Germany. The participation of Shinmeizan to this yearly event has a long history, dating back to even before the beginning of the event itself! Following the first great meeting of representatives from world religions that was held in Assisi in 1986, St Egidio Community thought of continuing the same initiative on a yearly base, and sent four of its young representatives in Japan where, since 1987, the Assisi meeting also was continued by the headquarter of Tendai Buddhism on Mount Hiei (Kyoto), the heart of Japanese Buddhism. Bishop Pietro Rossano, Secretary of the Secretariat for Non-Christians (1973-1982) and Rector of the Pontifical Lateran University (1982-1991), was their spiritual assistant. He had been sent to Japan the previous year to guide, together with the Ven. Furukawa Tairyu, head of the Seimeizan-Scweitzer Temple (where Fr. Franco Sottocornola was then living while taking care of the foundation of Shinmeizan), a series of meetings on interreligious dialogue for the Xaverians, the Xaverian Missionary Sisters of Mary and the PIME Missionaries. Following Bishop Rossano’s suggestion, these four young people came to visit the Seimeizan-Schweitzer Temple, where they remained for some days. Since then, they have been maintaining a relation of friendship and collaboration with the Seimeizan-Schweitzer Temple and with Shinmeizan and invited the two to take part in the international interreligious events which also St Egidio Community initiated since 1987.
