Io mi ricordo che ho fatto l’anno di noviziato a Nizza Monferrato, periodo in cui era maestro dei Novizi il p. Francesco Cavallo. Attualmente non ricordo il numero preciso di quanti abbiamo emesso la prima professione religiosa, ma eravamo più di venti. Devo ammettere che l’anno di Noviziato è stato un tempo di discernimento e arricchimento vocazionale. Sappiamo che in quegli anni il noviziato era un po’ severo e impegnativo e la spiritualità era basata sulla conoscenza dei grandi Santi, quali Giovanni della Croce, Teresa di Ávila, ecc., quindi l’unica piccola crisi che ho avuto era il dubbio se come missionario ero chiamato a vivere una così impegnativa spiritualità. Ma, poi, piano piano, ho capito che l’anno di Noviziato era un periodo speciale, orientato a mettere le basi umane e spirituali di un missionario. Così dopo un anno di preparazione assieme ai miei amici, ho emesso nel santuario della Casa Madre di Parma, la Prima Professione Religiosa, promettendo al Signore Gesù che nella consacrazione missionaria, avrei tentato di esserGli fedele nelle promesse fatte, vivendo e testimoniando lo spirito e il carisma lasciatici dal nostro Santo Fondatore. I remember I spent my year of Novitiate in Nizza Monferrato. At that time, the master of novices was Fr. Francesco Cavallo. At present, I don’t remember how many of us then made their first profession, but we were more than twenty. I must acknowledge that for me the year of Novitiate was a time of discernment and enrichment to my vocation. We all know that in that epoch, the Novitiate was a little strict and hard, and that the spirituality was based on the knowledge of the great saints, such as John of the Cross, Therese of Avila, etc. This is why my only little crisis came with the doubt about whether, as a missionary, I was called to live such a demanding spirituality. Later, however, little by little, I understood that the year of Novitiate was a special period whose purpose was to lay the human and spiritual foundations of a missionary. Thus, after one year of preparation with my friends, I made my First Religious Profession in the shrine of the Mother House of Parma. I promised to the Lord Jesus that through missionary consecration I would endeavour to be faithful to Him in the promises I made by living and witnessing the spirit and charism our holy Founder bequeathed to us.
