Lo scorso giovedì, 2 febbraio, alle 4:30 del pomeriggio, i religiosi e le religiose dell’arcidiocesi di Freetown hanno celebrato la Giornata della Vita Consacrata. Ci siamo radunati nella cattedrale per la S. Messa presieduta dall’arcivescovo Edward Tamba Charles. Durante la Messa abbiamo rinnovato i nostri voti. L’arcivescovo ha espresso gratitudine per la presenza delle congregazioni religiose nell’arcidiocesi. Ha incoraggiato i religiosi a rafforzare le vocazioni locali per la Vita Consacrata nel paese. Dopo la Messa, abbiamo condiviso un semplice pasto e delle bevande. La Messa è stata trasmessa da Radio Maria.

Le congregazioni religiose maschili che lavorano a Freetown sono gli Spiritani, i Saveriani, i Fratelli Cristiani, i Salesiani, i Giuseppini e i Gesuiti. Le congregazioni femminili sono le Suore di San Giuseppe di Cluny, le Suore del Santo Rosario, le Missionarie della Carità, le Figlie del Santo Nome di Gesù.

La celebrazione nazionale per la Giornata della Vita Consacrata si terrà il 10 febbraio nella diocesi di Kenema, nella parte orientale del paese. (Vivinio Matugas Buhawe Jr. s.x.)

Last Thursday afternoon, February 2^nd, at 4:30, the Religious Men and Women of the Archdiocese of Freetown celebrated the World Day of Consecrated Life. We gathered in the Cathedral for the Holy Mass presided over by Archbishop Edward Tamba Charles. Within the Mass we renewed our Vows. The Archbishop was grateful for the presence of the religious congregations in the Archdiocese.  He encouraged the Religious to strengthen the local vocations for the Consecrated Life in the country. After the Mass, we shared a simple meal and drinks together. The Mass was aired live through Radio Maria.

The religious congregation of men working in Freetown are the Spiritans, Xaverians, Christian Brothers, Salesians, Josephites and Jesuits.

The religious congregation of women are Sisters of St. Joseph of Cluny, Sisters of the Holy Rosary, Missionaries of Charity, Daughters of the Holy Name of Jesus.

The National Celebration of the Day of Consecrated Life will be on February 10 in Diocese of Kenema, SL – the east portion of the country. (Vivinio Matugas Buhawe Jr. s.x.)
