Da lunedì 6 a sabato 11 marzo 2023, quasi tutti i confratelli del IV Piano e un buon numero dei membri della comunità del III Piano della Casa Madre si sono ritrovati per vivere una settimana di riflessione, preghiera e condivisione. Gli Esercizi Spirituali di quest’anno sono stati guidati dal nostro confratello p. Bartolomeo (Meo) Elia, classe 1936, avendo come titolo ‘la Missione’. Ogni giorno, p. Meo Elia suggeriva due meditazioni (09.00 e 16.00) della durata di un’ora circa. Il resto degli orari veniva poi scandito a seconda delle esigenze delle diverse realtà comunitarie.

P. Meo, con i suoi 87 anni (17.03.1936) così ha esordito nella sua prima riflessione:

“Donaci, o Padre, di sentire in mezzo a noi la presenza del Cristo tuo Figlio promessa a quanti si radunano nel suo nome, e fa’ che nello spirito di Verità e di Amore, sperimentiamo in noi l’abbondanza di luce, di misericordia e di gioia”.

Bene, cominciamo allora. Come premessa, vorrei dire che penso ci voglia una certa dose di coraggio, o forse potremmo dire anche una certa dose di incoscienza, a un confratello che parli, faccia le prediche, faccia il ritiro agli altri confratelli. Però ho accettato volentieri di predicare questi esercizi perché ho pensato che il tema della ‘Missione’ è quello che sta più a cuore di tutti noi. È quello che motiva la nostra vocazione e tutto l’impegno della nostra vita. Quindi, più che fare delle prediche sarà come un comunicare, un richiamo a quello che in fin dei conti ciascuno ha nel proprio cuore. Un richiamo anche a quella che è stata sempre la nostra vita e a quella che è anche oggi, perché la missione nostra è anche oggi, nella situazione in cui ci troviamo. Ed è anche un richiamo alla riconoscenza per la vocazione che abbiamo avuto e che abbiamo vissuto e che abbiamo e che ci accumuna veramente, come diceva il Fondatore: “la vocazione degli Apostoli”. Ci fa vedere veramente la bellezza di questa vocazione e anche il tipo di rapporto tra Gesù e noi; il rapporto che Gesù vuole avere e ha con noi. 

Tutto questo è quello che mi ha spinto a dire: beh, è una bella occasione per rivivere insieme la nostra vocazione missionaria…  (Gigi Signori sx)           

Esercizi Casa Madre 2023

From Monday, March 6^th, to Saturday, March 11^th, 2023, almost all confreres of the Fourth Floor and a good number of the members of the third floor in the Mother House met for a week of reflection, prayer and sharing. This year, the Spiritual Exercises under the title “The Mission” were led by our confrere Fr. Bartolomeo (Meo) Elia (born in 1936). Twice every day (at 9:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m.), Fr. Meo Elia offered a one-hour-long meditation. The remaining time was determined by the needs of the different communities.

Following is how 87-year-old Fr. Meo commenced his first meditation:

"Grant us, o Father, to feel the presence of Christ your Son in our midst for this is what he promised to those who gather in His name; and, in the Spirit of Truth and Love, make us experience an abundance of light, mercy and joy".

Well, let’s begin then! By way of introduction, I would like to say that I think a confrere needs a good amount of courage – or probably we could say a good amount of recklessness –  in order to speak to, preach to, lead a retreat for other confreres. Nevertheless, I willingly accepted to preach these Exercises because I thought that the theme “Mission” is the stuff most dear to us. It is the very thing that motivates our vocation and the commitment of an entire life. Therefore, rather than preaching, mine will be a reminder of what, at the end of the day, each one of us keeps in his heart. It will also be a reminder of what has been our life in the past and is our life today, because for us mission happens even today, in the particular situation we find ourselves. And it is a reminder to be grateful for the vocation we have received and lived and have, [the vocation] that truly brings us together: as the Founder defined it, “the vocation of the Apostles.” This is how he points out not only the beauty of our vocation but also the type of relationship there is between Jesus and us – the relation that Jesus wants to have and has with us.

All this is what prompted me to say: Well, this is a beautiful occasion to relive together our missionary vocation… (Gigi Signori s.x.)
