Con il consenso del Consiglio Generale, il Superiore Generale, p. Fernando García Rodríguez - nella lettera del 28 febbraio 2023, rivolta a tutti i Delegati - convoca il XVIII Capitolo Generale del nostro Istituto Saveriano. Il tema del Capitolo è “Amare la nostra vocazione saveriana”.

Nella lettera di convocazione, rivolgendosi ai Delegati, il padre Generale scrive: “Il Capitolo avrà luogo a Bukavu (R.D.Congo), presso la Maison Régionale (Domus), dal 1° luglio al 23 luglio 2023”.  “…per quanto riguarda il luogo della celebrazione del Capitolo Generale, ricordiamo come fin dall’inizio era stato scelto Bukavu (Sud-Kivu) e ora lo confermiamo. Come ben sapete da alcuni mesi la situazione del Nord Kivu è instabile dovuta al conflitto violento che oppone l’esercito congolese al gruppo armato M23. Finora la città di Goma, capoluogo del Nord Kivu non è stata toccata. La vita prosegue con normalità. Sia all’esterno come all’interno le compagnie aeree continuano a volare come nel passato, così come i collegamenti nel lago Kivu che uniscono Goma con Bukavu.

Nonostante alcune perplessità giunteci da alcuni confratelli, dalle informazioni raccolte sul luogo  da persone autorevoli, sembra che la situazione non debba peggiorare, anzi si prevede una diminuzione dell’intensità bellica. Per tali ragioni abbiamo deciso di mantenere la città di Bukavu come luogo di incontro. Tuttavia, se la situazione dovesse peggiorare tanto da rendere impossibile il viaggio e soggiorno a Bukavu, stiamo prevedendo una alternativa, sempre nel continente africano…”.

Through a letter to all Delegates written on February 28^th, 2023, the Superior General, Fr. Fernando García Rodríguez, with the consent of the General Council, convoked the XVIII General Chapter of our Xaverian Institute. The theme of the Chapter is “Loving Our Xaverian Vocation.”

In the convocation letter, Father General writes to the Delegates: “The Chapter shall take place in Bukavu (D.R. Congo), at Maison Régionale (Domus), from July 1st to July 23rd, 2023.  … As for the place of the celebration of the General Chapter, let us remember that since the beginning the choice fell on Bukavu (South Kivu). At this point, we confirm this choice. You certainly know that in recent months the situation of North Kivu has been unstable due to a violent conflict between the Congolese regular army and the military group M23. So far, Goma, the provincial capital of North Kivu, has remained untouched. There, life continues normally. Both international and domestic flights continue to operate as in the past, and the same is true for the transportations connecting Goma with Bukavu across Lake Kivu.

Despite the concerns some confreres expressed to us, based on information collected on the ground by consulting people in the know, it appears that the situation will not deteriorate; in fact, warfare activities are expected to fade out. This is why we decided to maintain the choice of Bukavu. Nevertheless, if the situation should deteriorate to the point of making it impossible to travel to and sojourn in Bukavu, we are envisioning an alternative place in the African continent.”
