La rivista Sequela Christi del Dicastero per gli Istituti di vita consacrata e le società di vita apostolica pubblica l'articolo del nostro confratello p. Louis Birabaluge Hakizimwami dal titolo: “La missione e i cambiamenti climatici. Una prospettiva africana”. L'articolo riporta innanzitutto la proposta avanzata dal teologo Jean-Marc Ela secondo cui una risposta cristiana alla crisi ecologica richiede un riesame di ciò che è noto come «animismo africano». Questo, infatti, è ben lungi dall'essere paganesimo, ma piuttosto un modo africano di abitare il mondo nel rispetto di tutto ciò che vive. L'articolo mostra poi che l'Africa non è solo un continente vittima del «peccato contro la terra», ma anche una terra portatrice di soluzioni. Le esperienze vissute dai confratelli nella Repubblica Democratica del Congo; quelle della Quaresima ecologica promossa da alcune delle parrocchie che serviamo sono un esempio di risposta cristiana alla sfida del cambiamento climatico.

The journal Sequela Christi, published by the Dicastery for Institutes of Consecrated Life and Societies of Apostolic Life, has published an article of our confrere Louis Birabaluge Hakizimwami entitled: ‘Mission and Climate Change: An African Perspective.’ The article first reports on the proposal made by theologian Jean-Marc Ela that a Christian response to the ecological crisis requires a re-examination of what is known as ‘African animism.’ For it is far from being paganism, but rather an African way of inhabiting the world with respect for all the living. The article then shows that Africa is not only a continent that is a victim of the ‘sin against the earth,’ but also a land that offers solutions. The experiences of our confreres in the DRC, such as the ecological Lent promoted by some of the parishes we serve, are given as examples of a Christian response to the challenge of climate change.
