I nostri fratelli e sorelle Tailandesi hanno la bella tradizione, durante l’Avvento, di pregare nelle case dei fedeli. La visita viene fatta portando il bambino Gesù. Il valore di questa tradizione è quello di condividere che Gesù è veramente venuto nel cuore delle nostre case, e anche nel cuore di ogni membro della famiglia. I nostri fedeli hanno apprezzato questa visita-tempo di preghiera. A differenza degli anni scorsi, quest’anno abbiamo costituito un piccolo gruppo di 10 persone, composto dai padri, dai catechisti, da giovani e bambini. Con questo gruppo, durante il tempo dell’Avvento, ogni sera, visitavamo 6-7 famiglie. Abbiamo notato come l’esperienza di visita-preghiera abbia aiutato a ravvivare il dono delle fede sia dei fedeli che partecipano ogni domenica all’Eucaristia come di quelli che lo fanno solo in occasione delle grandi feste. La visita è culminata con la celebrazione della nascita di Gesù il 24 e 25 dicembre.

Il giorno di Natale ci siamo recati a visitare una famiglia di cattolici che da circa 3 anni non partecipava alle celebrazioni comunitarie della parrocchia. E proprio in questa casa abbiamo celebrato insieme il Natale, nel villaggio di Umpiam, a 30 chilometri circa dalla parrocchia. La famiglia appartiene al gruppo etnico Hmong, un gruppo minoritario rispetto alla maggioranza dei nostri fedeli Akha. Come le altre famiglie visitate, anche questo gruppo familiare è stato molto contento della visita-celebrazione. Questa è l’unica famiglia cattolica nel grande villaggio di Umpiam. Dopo la celebrazione eucaristica, abbiamo pranzato tutti insieme, concludendo la serata con il gioco della “tombola”, dove hanno partecipato anche altri membri della famiglia che non sono cattolici.

Con questa famiglia, infine, abbiamo programmato un giorno di incontro con gli anziani del villaggio. Grazie a questa famiglia, infatti, abbiamo avuto la possibilità di contattare anche il capo villaggio. Nell’incontro con gli anziani, abbiamo condiviso tutti i doni (viveri, coperte durante la stagione fredda, medicine…) ricevuti dai nostri amici Tailandesi, dai parrocchiani della città di Maesot e anche dalla nostra diocesi di Nakhon Sawan.

Avevamo organizzato di celebrare il Capodanno i giorni 31 dicembre de 1 gennaio, ma all’ultima ora abbiamo ricevuto la comunicazione che, a causa del Covid 19, le celebrazioni non potranno contenere più di 10 persone. I nostri fedeli seguiranno le celebrazioni in streaming. Abbiamo fatto tutto quello che potevamo fare. Auguriamo a tutti voi Buon Natale e Felice Anno Nuovo. (Gordi Afri, s.x.)

Our Thai brothers and sisters have a beautiful tradition, during Advent, of praying in the homes of the faithful.  The visit is made bringing the child Jesus.  The value of this tradition is to sharethat Jesus has truly come to the heart and houses, and also to the heart of every member of the family.  Our faithful anjoyed this visit of prayer.  Unlike in previous years, this year we have formed a small group of 10 persons, composed of fathers, catechists, young people and children.

With this group, during Advent time, every evening, we visited 6-7 families.  We have noted how the experience of this visiting prayer has helped to revive the gift of faith both in the faithful who participate every Sunday in the Eucharist aand of those who do so only on the occasion of great feasts.  The visit culminated in the celebration of Jesus’ birth on December 24^th and 25^th.

On Christmas Day we went to visit a family of Catholics who for about 3 years had not participated in community and parish celebrations.  And it was in this house that we celebrated Christmas together, in the village of Umpiam, at about 30 kilometers from the parish.    

The family belongs to the Hmong ethnic group, a minority group compared to the majority of our Akha faithful. Like the other families visited, this family group was also very pleased with the visit-celebration.  This is the only catholic family  in the large village of Umpiam.  After the Eucharistic celebration, we all had lunch together, ending the evening with the game of “bingo”, where other family members who are not Catholics also participated. 

Finally, with this family, we planned a day of meeting with the village elders.  Thanks to this family, in fact, we had the opportunity to contact the village chief as well.  In the meeting with the elderly, we shared all the gifts (food, blankets during the cold season, medicines…) received from our Thai friends, from the parishioners of the city of Maesort and also from our diocese of Nakhom Sawan.   We had organized to celebrate New Year’s Eve on the 31^st of December – January 1^st, but, at the last hour, we received the communication that, due to Covid 19, the celebrations will not be able to contain more than 10 persons.  Our faithful will follow the celebrations in streaming.  We did everything we could do.
