Il 5 novembre, in occasione della festa liturgica di san Guido, nella comunità di Tavernerio ne abbiamo celebrato la memoria e lo abbiamo pregato per la pace in Ucraina e in tutti i luoghi dove la guerra e i conflitti stanno portando distruzione, morte, seminando altro odio e nuovi conflitti.

In questo 2022, carico di tensioni e conflitti, è bello ricordare l’opera pacificatrice che san Guido, proprio cento anni fa - nell’agosto del 1922 - svolse a Parma. Era da poco conclusa la Prima guerra mondiale che aveva seminato nella popolazione povertà, malcontento e violenza. In quella situazione caotica mosse i primi passi il movimento fascista che sfruttava quel caos per arrivare al potere. I fascisti si scontrarono con la popolazione, in particolare nell’Oltretorrente, una borgata operaia di Parma, notoriamente “rossa”. Mons Conforti, che al momento dei disordini era fuori città, s’affrettò a rientrare e, come pastore di tutti, condannò la violenza fratricida e invitò alla pace e all’intesa, offrendosi egli stesso come mediatore e pacificatore: “Deponete le armi!”, fu l’accorato appello in quelle cosiddette “cinque giornate di Parma”. La storia e la voce del popolo dicono che il suo intervento - prodigiosamente - riuscì a evitare un ormai imminente e inevitabile bagno di sangue.… È bello ricordare così il nostro Santo Fondatore, Padre di missionari, apostoli di pace in Cina, ma egli stesso apostolo di pace e riconciliazione. Egli ispira anche noi a cercare e pregare per la pace in questo tempo di guerra… (Gabriele Ferrari sx)

On November 5^th, liturgical feast of St Guido, we celebrated his memory in the community of Tavernerio, and prayed him for peace in Ukraine and all places where war and conflicts are causing destruction, death and are disseminating more hatred and conflicts.

In this 2022, a year replete with tensions and conflicts, it is good to remember the work of peace-making which St Guido, one hundred years ago – in August 1922 – carried out in Parma. War Word I, which had spread poverty, dissatisfaction and violence among the population, had recently ended. In that chaotic situation, the Fascist movement had begun moving its first steps, trying to take advantage of the chaos to reach power. The Fascists clashed with the population, especially in Oltretorrente, a workers district in the city of Parma, which was notably “red”. When the unrest occurred, Msgr. Conforti was out of the city. He hastily returned. As the shepherd of all, he condemned the fratricidal violence and called for peace and dialogue by volunteering to act as mediator and peacemaker. “Lay down your weapons!” was his heartfelt appeal during those so-called “five days of Parma”. History and the voice of the people say that his intervention – miraculously – managed to avoid a by-then imminent and inevitable bloodshed… It is beautiful to remember in this manner our Holy Founder, Father of missionaries, apostles of peace in China, and he himself apostle of peace and reconciliation.
