La comunità dei Saveriani di Cagliari ha recentemente pubblicato un libro, dal titolo: “Missionari e Missionarie Saveriani Sardi Defunti” che raccoglie delle brevi note biografiche dei Saveriani e delle Saveriane della Sardegna che ci hanno lasciati. La finalità di questo libro è quella di fare memoria di questi nostri fratelli e sorelle affinché “leggendo la loro storia e tutto quello che, attraverso di loro, è stato fatto, anche noi ci sentiamo stimolati a fare del nostro meglio per annunciare a tutti Gesù Cristo con coraggio, forza ed entusiasmo”.  “Quella dei Missionari Saveriani nell’isola di Sardegna è una storia che ha ora 76 anni di vita e tante vocazioni e vicende particolari da raccontare. Parlando dei Saveriani originari della terra sarda, vengono subito in mente due nomi in particolare: p. Angelo Lampis ( 1901-1973), il ‘patriarca’ come veniva chiamato scherzosamente, nativo di Arbus, Cagliari, poi partito per la Cina dove rimase per circa 30 anni fino a che fu espulso da Mao Tse Tung. Poi p. Giovanni Picci (1919-1990) di Quartu S. Elena, forse il principale artefice della venuta dei Saveriani in Sardegna…” (dalla Prefazione del Libro)

Recently, the Xaverian community of Cagliari published a book titled Missionari e Missionarie Saveriani Sardi Defunti (Deceased Sardinian Xaverian Men and Women Missionaries) that collects brief biographical sketches of the Xaverian men and women from Sardinia who left us. Purpose of this book is to keep alive the memory of these brothers and sisters of ours, so that “their stories and all that has been done through them may also inspire us to do our best for the proclamation of Jesus Christi to all, with courage, strength and enthusiasm.”  Anyone interested in the book may request it from the Cagliari community. “The history of the Xaverian Missionaries in the island of Sardinia is now 76-year long; it is a history full of life, vocations, and peculiar events that should be told. When talking of the Xaverians native of the Sardinian land, two names in particular come immediately to mind: Fr. Angelo Lampis (1901-1973), the ‘patriarch’, as he was usually humorously called, was born in Arbus, Cagliari; he left for China, where he remained for about 30 years, till he was expelled by Mao Tse Tung.
