Fr. Roberto Mancini

Alle ore 12:40 del 01.04.2020, a Jakarta, Bintaro, nella casa del Noviziato, è deceduto serenamente Fr. Roberto Mancini, dopo una lunga malattia per la quale si trovava allettato ormai da tre anni.
Il confratello aveva 92 anni, essendo nato il 06.12.1927 a Subiaco (Roma – IT).
Dopo aver trascorso la giovinezza lavorando come agricoltore, nel 1959 Roberto entra nella casa saveriana di Nizza M. per diventare saveriano. Dopo aver fatto le scuole medie a Piacenza (1959-1962), torna a Nizza Monferrato per l’anno di noviziato, al termine del quale emette la Prima Professione religiosa-missionaria (Parma, 03.10.1963).
Dopo aver frequentato il liceo a Desio (1963-1964) e a Tavernerio (1964-1965), Roberto continua la sua vita saveriana come Fratello. Per questo viene mandato a S. Pietro in Vincoli dove lavora nell’azienda agricola (1965-1966), per poi tornare a Nizza M. come animatore missionario e ortolano (1966-1968).
Dopo aver passato un anno a Parma in attesa della partenza per la missione, nel settembre del 1969 fr. Roberto può finalmente approdare in Indonesia. Qui, dopo qualche mese di studio della lingua locale, viene mandato come catechista prima a Bagansiapi-Api (1969-1971) e, poi, a Sipora (1971-1974).
Dopo qualche mese di riposo a Parma-Casa Madre – e dopo il suo ritorno in Indonesia, dove lavorò per qualche mese come prefetto a Padan – fr. Roberto viene mandato a Kota Baru, Mahakaria (1975-1998) dove, tranne una parentesi a Jakarta come aiutante nella casa del noviziato (1985-1986), rimane per ventitré anni lavorando nella pastorale come incaricato dell’attività sociale. “Laborioso, sempre disponibile e sorridente era gradito a tutti quelli che si rivolgevano a lui” (testimonianza di p. Fernando Abis).
Nel 1998 fr. Roberto passa alla casa del noviziato di Jakarta, servendo come addetto alla casa. Dal gennaio del 2017, a causa delle condizioni di salute, necessita di assidue cure pur restando nella casa saveriana. “I suoi ultimi anni in carrozzina e poi completamente allettato sono stati ricchi del suo sorriso e della sua serenità orante” (testimonianza di p. Il 1° aprile 2020 gli Angeli lo portano al cospetto dell’Altissimo per ricevere la ricompensa del servitore buono e fedele.

Bro. Roberto Mancini died peacefully on April 1st, 2020, at 12:20 pm, at the House of the Novitiate. He suffered for a long sickness and, for the last three years, he had been bed-ridden. He was born on December 6th, 1927 in the town of Subiaco (Rome – IT), and was now 92 years old.
In his youth, Roberto Mancini was working as a farmer. In the year 1959, Roberto entered the Xaverian House of Nizza Monferrato with the desire to become a Xaverian missionary. Having finished with his High School Studies in the city of Piacenza, he returned to Nizza Monferrato for the Year of Novitiate, and celebrated his First Religious Missionary Profession in Parma on October 3rd, 1963.
After attending College Studies in Desio (1963-1964), Roberto continued his work as a Xaverian Brother. For this reason he was sent to the Xaverian House of San Pietro in Vincoli (Ravenna) to work in the farm and the garden (1965-1966), to return a bit later to Nizza Monferrato to work in the ministry of mission education and to take care of the garden (1966-1968).
After spending one year in Parma, while awaiting for his departure for mission service in Indonesia, finally he reached Indonesia in September 1969. Here, after few months of study and acculturation, Bro. Roberto Mancini was sent as a Catechist, first, to Bagansiapi-Api (1069-1971) and, then, to Sipora (1971-1974).
After few months of rest in Parma at the Mother House – and after returning to Indonesia where he worked for a few months as Prefect of the xaverian students in Padang – Bro. Roberto Mancini was sent to Kota Baru, Muhakaria (1975-1998), where, except for a stint in Jakarta as a helper in the Novitiate House (1985-1986), there he remained for twenty three years, working in pastoral ministry and responsible for social activities. “A great worker, always helpful and smiling, pleasing to all those who would meet him” (Testimony by Fr. In the year 1998, Bro Roberto Mancini moved to Jakarta, to the Xaverian Novitiate House, serving and ministering to all sorts of needs. Since January 2017, due to his poor state of health, Bro. Roberto needed to be taken care in the Xaverian House. "His last years, in a wheelchair and then completely bedridden, were outstanding for his smiles and for his prayerful serenity and peace” (Testimony by Fr. Fernando Abis, s.x.).
On April 1st, 2020, the Holy Angels came to take him to the Almighty God to receive the reward of the good and faithful servant.
