(1938 - 2021)

Mercoledì 05 maggio 2021, alle ore 13.00 (ora del Burundi) è deceduto a Bujumbura, nella casa di Formazione e Animazione Missionaria, il nostro confratello p. Angelo Guttoriello sx. Aveva 82 anni essendo nato a Montanaro di Francolise (Caserta - Campania), della diocesi di Teano-Calvi, il 13 dicembre 1938.

Dopo aver conseguito, nel 1958 a Caserta, la maturità scientifica, il giovane Angelo si iscrive alla facoltà di Economia e Commercio di Napoli. Sentendo i primi semi della chiamata del Signore, nel 1959 entra nell’allora Seminario Regionale Pio XI di Salerno. Qui coltiva la vocazione missionaria che lo porta, nel 1961, ad entrare nella casa saveriana di Nizza Monferrato dove vive l’anno di Noviziato (1961-1962).

Dopo la Prima Professione religiosa-missionaria (fatta il 03.10.1962 a Parma), il giovane Angelo continua con gli studi di Teologia a Parma (1962-1963; 1964-1967), studi inframezzati da un anno di prefettato a Brescia (1963-1964).

Viene ordinato Presbitero a Parma il 16.10.1966.

Finiti gli studi di teologia, p. Angelo viene destinato come cappellano alla parrocchia del Tempio del Sacro Cuore di Parma (1967-1970). Dopo lo studio della lingua francese a Parigi (1971) e successivamente la lingua kirundi a Bujumbura (1972), dal 1972 al 1974 è a Rumonge come viceparroco per poi essere inviato a Mugambe come parroco (1975-1976). Dal 1976 al 1987 è viceparroco a Gisanze.

Dopo un anno di aggiornamento a Roma presso il Collegio Internazionale Mons. Conforti (1987-1988), p. Angelo rientra in Burundi come viceparroco a Mukenke (1988-1990). Dal 1990 al 1994 è viceparroco a Gasorwe. In questo periodo è anche membro del consiglio regionale. Dal 1994 al 1999 è nuovamente a Gisanze prima come viceparroco e poi come parroco. Dal 1999 al 2013 è parroco a Gasura. Dal 2013 al 2014 è viceparroco a Bugwana.

Nel 2014 p. Angelo viene destinato alla casa di Formazione di Bujumbura come Direttore Spirituale.

“…Le confesso che rimasi molto entusiasta del clima di famiglia e fratellanza. Le assicuro che quanto più vi conosco tanto più mi sento attratto da un forte vincolo di affetto. Sono molto contento della mia scelta, e ringrazio il Signore per avermi indirizzato verso il suo Istituto e sono sicuro che mi troverò benissimo. Sicuramente troverò quelle condizioni e quegli aiuti necessari per la mia santificazione e per il raggiungimento della vetta altissima del Sacerdozio Missionario…” (Lettera scritta dal Seminario Regionale Pio XI di Salerno, 5 luglio 1961, Sem. Debilitato nel fisico a causa di un tumore terminale, il 5 maggio 2021 p. Angelo viene portato dagli Angeli al cospetto dell’Altissimo per ricevere la ricompensa del servitore buono e fedele

FR.  ANGELO GUTTORIELLO

(1938 - 2021)

Rev. Fr. Angelo Guttoriello died on May 05^th, 2021, at 1:00 pm (Burundi local time), in the Xaverian Missionary Formation House in the city of Bujumbura. Fr. Angelo Guttoriello was born in the town of Montanaro di Francolise (Caserta – Campania), of the Diocese of Teano-Calvi, on December 13^th, 1938. He was now 82 years old.

After having obtained his College Degree in the areas of Sciences in 1958 in the city of Caserta, young Angelo enrolled in the faculty of Economics and Commerce of Naples. In the following year, 1959, Angelo Guttoriello felt a personal call from the Lord and entered the Pius XI Regional Seminary of Salerno. Here he cultivated his missionary vocation, which led him in 1961 to the Xaverian Missionary House of Nizza Monferrato, where he stayed for the whole Year of Novitiate (1961-1962).

On October 3^rd, 1962, Angelo Guttoriello celebrated his First Religious Missionary Profession in Parma. Then Angelo continued with his studies in the area of Theology in Parma (1962-1963; 1964-1967). His studies were interspersed with a year of service as Prefect of younger Xaverian students in the Xaverian House of Brescia (1963-1964).

Rev. Fr. Angelo Guttoriello was ordained Priest in Parma on October 16^th, 1966.

Having finished with his studies in Theology, Fr. Angelo Guttoriello was assigned as Assistant Parish Priest to the Temple Church of the Sacred Heart in Parma (1967-1970). For the year 1971 Fr. Gutturiello was in Paris to learn the French Language (1971), and, later, learning the Kirundi Language in Bujumbura (1972). From 1972 to 1974, Fr. Angelo Guttoriello was in Rumonge as Assistant Parish Priest. For the years 1975 and 1976, Angelo was ministering as Parish Priest in Mugambe. Then, in 1976-1987, Fr. Angelo Guttoriello was Assistant Parish Priest in Gisanze.

After a year of updating in Rome at the International Xaverian College Mons. Guido Maria Conforti (1987-1988), Fr. Angelo returned to Burundi and ministered as Assistant Parish Priest in Mukenke (1988-1990). From 1990 to 1994, Fr. Angelo was Assistant Parish Priest in Gasorwe. At this time, Fr. Guttoriello was also Regional Councilor for the Xaverians in Burundi. From 1994 to 1999, Fr. Guttoriello was again in Gisanze, first, as Assistant Parish Priest and, then, as Parish Priest. From 1999 to 2013 Fr. Angelo Guttoriello was in Gasura as Parish Priest. From 2013 to 2014, Fr. Angelo ministered as Assistant Parish Priest in Bugwana. In the year 2014, Fr. Angelo Guttoriello was assigned to the Xaverian House of Formation in the city of Bujumbura. Fr. Angelo was the Spiritual Director of the Xaverian Community.

“… I confess that I was very enthusiastic about our Religious Family and its brotherhood atmosphere. I assure you that the more I know you, the more I feel attracted by a strong bond of affection. I am very happy with my choice, and I thank the Lord for having directed me to this Institute. I am sure I will have a great time! I will surely find those conditions and all the necessary help for my sanctification and for reaching the highest peak of the Missionary Priesthood …”. (Letter written by Fr. Angelo Guttoriello, when he was a seminarian in the Regional Seminary of Salerno, on July 5^th, 1961).

Debilitated in his physical health due to a terminal tumor, on May 5^th, 2021, Fr. Angelo Guttoriello was brought by the Angels before the Most High God to receive the reward of the good and faithful servant.
