1964-2025
Venerdì 6 giugno 2025, alle ore 8.00 a.m. (ora di Bukavu), presso l’Ospedale Maggiore di Bukavu, Repubblica Democratica del Congo, è deceduto, dopo grave malattia, il nostro confratello p. Donatien Lwiyando Mujishamba. P. Donatien aveva 61 anni compiuti essendo nato il 16 gennaio 1964, a Cabarhabe – Bagira, Sud Kivu, Repubblica Democratica del Congo.
Dopo aver concluso gli studi delle Scuole Superiori(1978-1985) con il conseguimento del Diplôme d'État a Bukavu, RDC, Donatien entra nella comunità Saveriana di Goma (RDC) il 18 ottobre 1987. Dopo l’anno propedeutico, va a Bukavu dove studia la Filosofia (1988-1991). Nel 1992 vive l’anno di Noviziato a Bukavu dove emette anche la Prima Professione Religiosa e Missionaria(01.08.1993).
Dopo la Professione viene inviato a studiare la Teologia a Yaoundé (1993), Camerun. Durante la sua formazione teologica, emette la Professione Perpetua (05.11.1997). Realizza l’anno di Diaconato nella parrocchia di Oyack – Douala, Camerun, nel 1997-1998. Il 06 settembre 1998 viene ordinato presbitero a Kadutu, RDC.
Dopo l’ordinazione resta nella circoscrizione del Camerun dove vive il suo servizio missionario come viceparroco a Bafoussam-Koptchou (1998-2003). In questi anni è anche superiore di comunità.
Dal 2003 al 2008 viene destinato alla circoscrizione della Spagna. Nella comunità Saveriana di Madrid, p. Donatien è impegnato nella pastorale Vocazionale e nell’Animazione Missionaria. Allo stesso tempo è anche studente di Teologia Pastorale.
Dal 2008 al 2011 viene richiamato nella Repubblica Democratica del Congo: è viceparroco a Bukavu-Cahi (2008-2009) e Animatore Missionario nella comunità Maison “Conforti” (2009-2011).
Dal 2011 al 2018 chiede un tempo di assenza che trascorre nella diocesi di London (Ontario, Canada). Nel 2018 domanda di ritornare definitivamente in Congregazione.
Dal 2018 si trovava nella comunità della Domus di Bukavu, impegnato nella pastorale studentesca della cappellania dell’Istituto Superiore Pedagogico (ISP - Bukavu) fino al 2020 e nell’apostolato con bambini di strada e ragazze-madri.
All’inizio del 2025 i primi sintomi di un male incurabile. Le condizioni di salute sono andate peggiorando malgrado le cure ricevute prima a Bukavu, poi a Bujumbura e infine a Nairobi. A partire dalle ultime analisi, dove si confermava l’impossibilità di guarigione, viene portato a Bukavu per le cure palliative. In questi ultimi giorni p. Donatien si trovava nell’Ospedale Maggiore di Bukavu fino al momento del decesso.
Carissimo Padre,
Nel mio cammino di sequela al SIGNORE, mio DIO e mio Maestro, considero il momento opportuno per consacrarmi definitivamente a Colui che mi ha messo a parte fin dal grembo di mia madre, nella nostra famiglia dove la sua divina provvidenza mi ha chiamato.
Infatti, dopo diversi anni di preparazione nella preghiera, nella riflessione, nello studio e nel contatto sia con i confratelli (nella vita comunitaria) sia con molti altri fedeli di CRISTO (nella missione), mi sento contento e motivato ad abbandonarmi definitivamente tra le mani del SIGNORE mio DIO, per il servizio del suo Regno, con i voti evangelici, come descritto nelle nostre Costituzioni.
Durante la formazione di base, ho imparato a scoprire, apprezzare e soprattutto personalizzare gli aspetti specifici della nostra famiglia. Ho imparato ad amare i membri della mia famiglia, i miei fratelli maggiori e minori, in tutte le loro buone qualità, sia in tutto quello che hanno di buono che nei loro limiti. Questo si esprime spesso nel sentimento di gioia o di dolore che provo ogni volta che un confratello è felice o triste. La distanza non mi impedisce di portare nel cuore l'uno o l'altro.
Allo stesso tempo, con l'aiuto dei confratelli, soprattutto dei miei formatori, ho imparato a valorizzare i miei talenti e ad essere consapevole delle mie debolezze, confrontandomi con la Parola di Dio nell'ascolto e nella contemplazione, e con l'ideale proposto dal nostro Fondatore. Con l'aiuto di DIO, quest'anno mi ha permesso di apprezzare, verificare e purificare la mia accettazione della chiamata ricevuta dal Signore…

Il 6 giugno 2025, p. Donatien sale in Cielo per contemplare la Gloria del Risorto e partecipare della Vita Eterna.

On Friday, June 6th, 2025, at 8.00 a.m. (Bukavu time), at the Major Hospital in Bukavu, Democratic Republic of the Congo, our 61-year-old confrere Fr. Donatien Lwiyando Mujishamba, passed away after a serious illness. Fr. Donatien was born on January 16th, 1964, in Cabarhabe - Bagira, South Kivu, Democratic Republic of the Congo.
Upon graduating from high school (1978-1985) and obtaining a Diplôme d'État in Bukavu, DRC, Donatien entered the Xaverian community in Goma (DRC) on October 18th, 1987. He stayed there for one propaedeutic year, then moved to Bukavu to study Philosophy (1988-1991). He completed the year of novitiate (1992-1993) in Bukavu where he also made his First Religious and Missionary Profession (August 1st, 1993).
After the Profession, he was sent (1993) to study Theology in Yaoundé, Cameroon. During his theological training, he made his Perpetual Profession (November 5th,1997). Following the Ordination to the Diaconate, he spent one year of ministry (1997-1998) in the parish of Oyack - Douala, Cameroon. On September 6th, 1998, he was ordained to the Priesthood in Kadutu, DRC.
After the ordination, he remained in the circumscription of Cameroon to carry out his missionary service as vice-pastor in Bafoussam-Koptchou (1998-2003). During those years he was also superior of the community.
In 2003, he was assigned to the circumscription of Spain (2003-2008). In the Xaverian community in Madrid, Fr. Donatien was involved in the work of vocation and missionary awareness promotion, while concurrently being student of Pastoral Theology.
From 2008 to 2011 he was back in the Democratic Republic of the Congo: he was vice-pastor in Bukavu-Cahi (2008-2009) and promoter of mission awareness in the Maison “Conforti” community (2009-2011).
In 2011, he requested and was granted a period of absence, which he spent in the diocese of London (Ontario, Canada). In 2018, he asked to return permanently to the Congregation.
Since 2018, he was at the Domus community in Bukavu, serving as a chaplain at the Higher Pedagogical Institute (ISP - Bukavu) until 2020, and in ministry among street children and young single mothers.
At the beginning of 2025, the first symptoms of an incurable disease appeared. His health condition deteriorated despite receiving treatment first in Bukavu, then in Bujumbura and finally in Nairobi. After the last medical tests confirmed the impossibility for him to recover, he was taken to Bukavu to receive palliative care. During the last days until his death, Fr. Donatien was at the Bukavu Major Hospital.
Dear Father,
In my journey of following the LORD, my GOD and my Master, I consider the time opportune has arrived to consecrate myself definitively to the One who has set me apart from my mother's womb, in this family where his divine providence has called me.
In fact, after several years of preparation in prayer, reflection, study, and contact both with the brethren (in community life) and with many other faithful followers of CHRIST (in the mission), I feel happy and motivated to surrender myself definitively into the hands of the LORD my GOD, for the service of his Kingdom, with the evangelical vows, as described in our Constitutions.
During initial formation, I learnt to discover, appreciate and above all personalise the specific aspects of our family. I have learnt to love my family members, my elder and younger brothers, in all their good qualities and despite their limitations. This is often expressed in the feeling of joy or sorrow I experience whenever a brother is happy or sad. Distance does not prevent me from carrying one or the other in my heart.
At the same time, with the help of the brothers, especially my formators, I have learnt to make the most of my talents and to be aware of my weaknesses, by evaluating myself in the light of the Word of God through listening and contemplation, and in the light of the ideal proposed by our Founder.
With the help of GOD, this year has allowed me to appreciate, verify and purify my acceptance of the call received from the Lord...

On June 6th, 2025, Fr. Donatien ascended into Heaven to contemplate the Glory of the Risen One and partake in Life Eternal.
