(1935 - 2020)
Intorno alle ore 14:30 del 23.03.2020, è deceduto all’Ospedale di Parma, P. Piergiorgio Bettati. Il confratello aveva quasi 85 anni, essendo nato a Gattatico (Reggio Emilia - IT) il 05.04.1935.
Nel 1949 il giovane Piergiorgio entra nella casa saveriana di Ancona dove completa le scuole medie inferiori (1949-1950). In seguito passa a Zelarino per il ginnasio (1950-1952). Nel 1952 si trasferisce a S. Pietro in Vincoli per l’anno di noviziato.
Dopo la Prima Professione religiosa-missionaria (fatta il 12.09.1953 a S. Pietro in Vincoli), il giovane Piergiorgio continua con il consueto iter scolastico-formativo: liceo a Desio (1953-1956), prefettato a Vicenza (1956-1957), teologia a Parma (1957-1961).
Viene ordinato Presbitero a Parma il 16.10.1960.
Finiti gli studi di teologia, p. Bettati viene mandato a Roma per prendere la Licenza in Missiologia all’Urbaniana (1961-1963). Finita la specializzazione, p. Bettati viene destinato allo Studentato Teologico di Parma dove svolge il servizio di insegnante e di bibliotecario (1963-1972), e anche di Segretario degli Studi (1966-1970).
Dopo alcuni mesi di aggiornamento, nel settembre del 1973 p. Bettati parte per lo Zaire. Dopo un anno di lingua trascorso a Baraka (1973-1974), p. Bettati vi rimane come Vice parroco (1973-1978). In seguito viene mandato a Kiliba come parroco (1978-1979) e, poi, a Cimpunda come Vice parroco (1979-1983).
Nel 1983 p. Bettati viene richiamato in Italia. Dopo un periodo di aggiornamento a Roma (1983-1984) viene destinato a Parma dove svolge la sua opera in vari servizi: Bibliotecario (1984-2005), insegnante (1986-1994), Direttore della Biblioteca (2005-2015), Ministero.
Il 23.03.2020, gli Angeli prendono p. Bettati per portarlo al cospetto dell’Altissimo a ricevere la ricompensa del servitore fedele.

Fr. Piergiorgio Bettati died at the Hospital of Parma on March 23rd, 2020, at around 2:30 PM. Our Confrere was born on April 5th, 1935 in the town of Gattico (Reggio Emilia), and was not 85 years old.
In 1949, the young Piergiorgio entered the Xaverian House of Ancona, where he completed the lower middle school education (1949–1950). He then moved to Zelarino, Venice (1950–1952). In 1952 Piergiorgio Bettati moved to S. Pietro in Vincoli for the year of Novitiate.
After celebrating his First Religious Missionary Profession on September 12th, 1953, Piergiorgio Bettati continued with school formation and education: College years in Desio (1953–1956), he served as Prefect of students in Vicenza, Theology School in Parma (1957-1961).
Fr. Piergiorgio Bettati was ordained Priest in Parma on October 16th, 1960.
Having finished with his Theology Studies, Fr. Bettati was sent to Rome for Higher Education, where he obtained the License in Missiology at the Urbaniana University (1961-1963). With his new degree, Fr. Bettati was asked to go to Parma and give his contribution as Teacher and as Library Director for the Xaverian Theolgy Students (1963–1972). He also became Secretary of Studies (1966–1970).
Having spent few months of rest and updating, Fr. Piergiorgio Bettati left for Zaire (Republic Democratic of Congo) in September 1973. He spent one year of language study in the city of Baraka (1973–1974). There he remained as Assistant Parish Priest (1973–1974). Then, Fr. Piergiorgio Bettati was named Parish Priest of the Catholic Parish of Kiliba (1978–1979). A bit later, Fr. Bettati was named Assistant Parish Priest at Cimpunda (1979–1983).
In the year 1983, Fr. Piergiorgio Bettati was recalled to Italy. After a period of updating in Rome (1983–1984), Fr. Bettati was sent to Parma where he contributed with various services: Librarian (1984–2005), Teacher (1986–1994). Library Director (2005–2015), Teacher (1986–1994), Ministry.
On March 23rd, 2020, the Holy Angels took Fr. Piergiorgio Bettati and brought him to contemplate the glorious face of the Most High God, to receive the reward of the faithful servant.
