(1950-2020)
Il 24 gennaio 2020, verso le ore 20:00, dopo lunga malattia è morto a Parma, in Casa Madre, P. Roberto Sgarbossa. Il confratello aveva 69 anni, essendo nato a Cittadella (Padova) il giorno 08.06.1950.
Nel 1961 il giovane Roberto entra tra i Missionari Saveriani nella loro casa di Vicenza. Qui inizia le scuole medie (1961-1963) che prosegue poi a Zelarino (1964-1966).
Nel 1966 Roberto si trasferisce a S. Pietro in Vincoli per l’anno di noviziato alla fine del quale emette la prima professione religiosa-missionaria (15.09.1967). In seguito, Roberto frequenta gli studi nell’Istituto Magistrale a Desio (1967-1969) e a Tavernerio (1969-1970). Dopo il diploma, va a Parma per gli studi di propedeutica (1970-1971) e di teologia (1971-1976) inframmezzati da un anno di prefettato a Vicenza (1972-1973).
Roberto viene ordinato presbitero a Parma il 28.09.1975.
Finiti gli studi di teologia, p. Roberto viene destinato alla scuola apostolica di Vicenza (1976-1983).
Nel 1983 p. Roberto viene destinato al Giappone. Dopo un anno di studio dell’inglese a Londra (1983-1984) e due anni di studio della lingua locale a Kobe (1984-1986) svolge il servizio di vice parroco a Izumi Sano (1986) e, poi, a Minami Miyazaki (1986-1989)
Dopo alcuni mesi di vacanza-riposo in Italia, p. Roberto viene destinato a Izumi come parroco (1990-1995).
Nel 1995 gli viene chiesto di fare un periodo di avvicendamento in Italia e viene destinato alla casa di Desio.
Nel 1996 p. Roberto rientra in Giappone dove svolge vari servizi: ministero a Sennan (1996-1997), parroco a Iwade e Kaseda (1997-2002), parroco a Uchita e Kaseda (2002-2005), incaricato della cristianità a Kushima (2005-2006). Dopo alcuni mesi di vacanza-riposo in Italia, p. Roberto viene destinato a Tamazato come parroco (2007-2012).
A causa delle sue condizioni di salute, nel 2012 p. Roberto viene destinato alla comunità della Casa Madre “con l’intenzione che si curasse e poi presto far ritorno alla sua amata terra di missione che è il Giappone” (testimonianza di p. Codenotti). Invece, il 24 gennaio 2020 p. Roberto viene portato dagli angeli al cospetto dell’Altissimo per contemplare la sua gloria e ricevere la ricompensa del servitore fedele.
Riposi ora tra le braccia del Padre misericordioso.

Fr. Roberto Sgarbossa died in the Xaverian Mother House of Parma on January 24th, 2020, at about 8:00 pm, after a long illness. Born on June 8th, 1950 in the town of Cittadella (Padua - IT), Fr. Roberto Sgarbossa was now 69 years old.
Young Roberto Sgarbossa entered the xaverian house of Vicenza (IT) in 1961; moved then in 1964 to Zelarino (VE - IT) (1964-1966). In the Fall of 1966, entered the Novitiate Year in San Pietro in Vincoli and celebrated his First Religious Missionary Profession on September 15th, 1967. Then, continued with his College formation and studies in Desio (1967-1969) and Tavernerio (1969-1970). After his graduation, Roberto Sgarbossa went to Parma, first, for the year of Propaedeutic (1970-1971) and then for his Theology Studies (1971-1976). He had also spent a full year as Prefect of Students in the xaverian house of Vicenza (1972-1973).
Fr. Roberto Sgarbossa was ordained Priest on September 28th, 1975 in Parma.
After his Priestly Ordination, Fr. Roberto was assigned to the xaverian mission seminary of Vicenza (1976-1983).
In 1983, Fr. Roberto Sgarbossa was assigned for mission work in Japan. So, he went first to London (UK) to study the English Language (1983-1984). Proceeded then to Japan and spent his first two years there studying Japanese language in the city of Kobe (1984-1986). Ministered then as assistant Parish Priest at Izumi Sano (1986) and, then at Minami Miyazaki (1986-1989).
Having spent few months of rest and vacation in Italy, Fr. Roberto Sgarbossa was assigned as Parish Priest at Izumi (1990-1995).
In the year 1995, Fr. Roberto Sgarbossa was asked to do a period of turnover in Italy and was assigned to the xaverian house of Desio.
In 1996, Fr. Roberto Sgarbossa returned to Japan, where he carried out various services and ministries: Pastoral Ministry in Sennan (1996-1997), Parish Priest in Iwade and Kaseda (1997-2002), Parish Priest in Uchita and Kaseda (2002-2005), Responsible for the Christians in Kushima (2005-2006). After few months of rest and vacation in Italy, Fr. Roberto was assigned as Parish Priest of the Christian Community in Tamazato (2007-2012).
Because of his health problems, in 2012 Fr. Roberto Sgarbossa was assigned to the Xaverian Mother House in Parma “with the intention and determination to return as soon s possible to his beloved land and mission in Japan” (words of Fr. Codenotti). Instead, on January 24th, 2020, Fr. Roberto Sgarbossa was brought by the Angles before the Most High to contemplate His glory and receive the reward of the faithful servant.
May he, now, rest in the arms of the merciful Father.
