NOTE BIOGRAFICHE DI P. FRANCESCO SIGNORELLI (1932-2026)

Sabato 07 febbraio 2026, alle ore 15.00 (ore locali), presso il “Milford Regional Medical Center”, (Holliston), USA, è deceduto il nostro confratello p. Francesco Signorelli. P. Francesco aveva 93 anni compiuti essendo nato il 05 settembre 1932 a Marolles, Oise, Francia.

Francesco trascorre i primi anni della sua vita in territorio francese dopo di che con tutta la famiglia si trasferisce a Brembate (Bergamo, Italia) dove frequenta le scuole elementari (1939-1944). Il 01 agosto 1945 Francesco entra nella casa saveriana di Pedrengo (1945-1949) dove frequenta le scuole medie inferiori. In seguito va a Zelarino per lo studio ginnasiale (1949-1951). Vive l’anno di noviziato a San Pietro in Vincoli (1951-1952) dove emette la prima Professione Religiosa e Missionaria il 12 settembre 1952. 

Per continuare la sua formazione di base, la Direzione Generale destina Francesco alla Circoscrizione Saveriana degli Stati Uniti. Dopo l’anno di studio della lingua inglese a Petersham MA (1952-1953), studia la filosofia a Holliston (1953-1955) e, in seguito, frequenta la teologia a Holliston MA (1955-1957) e a Franklin WI (1957-1959). Durante la sua formazione negli Stati Uniti emette la Professione Perpetua a Franklin, WI (15 agosto 1958), e sempre a Franklin, riceve l’Ordinazione Presbiterale (02 febbraio 1959).

Conclusa la formazione di base, p. Francesco viene destinato alla Circoscrizione degli Stati Uniti dove rimarrà per 15 anni svolgendo molteplici servizi: prima a nel Seminario Minore di Holliston, MA, come direttore spirituale (1959-1962), incaricato delle costruzioni (1960-1962), aiuto economo (1961-1962), economo della comunità (1962-1968); in seguito va a Franklin, WI, dove svolge il compito di rettore dello Studentato Teologico (1968-1974). In questo periodo è anche Consigliere Regionale (1968-1971) e, poi, Vice-Regionale (1971-1974).

Nel 1974 p. Francesco viene destinato alla Circoscrizione saveriana del Brasile Nord. Dopo un periodo di studio della lingua portoghese a Bujaru (Parà), nella Parrocchia di Sant’Anna (1974-1975), p. Francesco lavora prima come Viceparroco (1975-1976) e poi come Parroco (1976-1978) della stessa parrocchia di Bujaru. Dal 1978 al 1983 svolge il servizio di Superiore Regionale.

Nel 1983 p. Francesco partecipa all’XI Capitolo Generale durante il quale viene eletto Vicario Generale (1983-1989). Per questo motivo, lascia l’Amazzonia per trasferirsi a Roma. Come Vicario Generale, collabora con generosità al governo della Congregazione e realizza molte visite alle Circoscrizioni. 

Con la realizzazione del XII Capitolo Generale (giugno-luglio 1989), p. Francesco conclude il suo servizio nella Direzione Generale della Congregazione e viene destinato alla Circoscrizione degli Stati Uniti dove rimarrà tutta la vita (1989-2026). Dopo un anno sabatico a San José, California (1990-1991), p. Francesco svolge il servizio di rettore della comunità di Holliston, MA (1991-1993). In questo periodo è anche Consigliere Regionale (1990-1993). Nel 1993 viene eletto Superiore Regionale (1993-2000). In questo periodo p. Francesco partecipa al XIII Capitolo Generale (giugno-luglio 1995)

Concluso il suo mandato come Superiore Regionale, p. Francesco rimane nel Consiglio Regionale come Consigliere (2000-2004). Dopo la partecipazione ai Tre Mesi a Tavernerio, p. Francesco va a Holliston, MA, dove svolge vari servizi: rettore della comunità (2000-2003), responsabile del “Fatima Shrine” (2003-2014), ministero (2003-2010), vice rettore (2004- 2008), aiutante nel “Fatima Shrine” (2014-2022). Dal gennaio 2023 era impegnato nel ministero.

“Carissimo Rino,

ti ringrazio di tutto cuore per la tua fraterna ed amica lettera con gli auguri per il mio cinquantesimo di Sacerdozio Missionario. Ho molto apprezzato il tuo ricordo, le tue parole di incoraggiamento e apprezzamento. Sono molto grato al Signore per avere raggiunto questo bel traguardo. Il Signore è stato tanto generoso, buono e misericordioso con me. Ho veramente ricevuto tante grazie, ho sperimentato tanta gioia al suo servizio, ricco di varie esperienze spirituali ed umane allo stesso tempo: tanto gratificanti e realizzanti. Posso veramente dire con il Fondatore: “Il Signore non poteva essere più buono con me”. Deo gratias!

Io sto bene e abbastanza in forma. Mi tengo impegnato, sono sereno e riconoscente per poter ancora essere “missionario” dove mi trovo a contatto con tante persone nel ministero, sia qui al Santuario che nelle Parrocchie.

Il 7 febbraio 2026, p. Francesco sale in Cielo per ricevere la ricompensa del servitore buono e fedele.

FR. FRANCESCO SIGNORELLI (1932-2026): A BIOGRAPHICAL SKETCH

On Saturday, February 7^th, 2026, at 3:00 p.m. (local time), our confrere Fr. Francesco Signorelli, 93, passed away  at the “Milford Regional Medical Centre”, Holliston, USA. Fr. Francesco was born on September 5^th, 1932, in Marolles, Oise, France.

Francesco spent the early years of his life in France, then moved with his family to Brembate (Bergamo, Italy) where he attended elementary school (1939-1944). 

• On August 1^st, 1945, Francesco entered the Xaverian house in Pedrengo (Bergamo) to attend middle school (1945-1949). 
• 1949-1951: gymnasium in Zelarino, Venice.
• 1951-1952: novitiate in San Pietro in Vincoli, where he made his first Religious and Missionary Profession on September 12^th, 1952.

For his subsequent initial training, the General direction assigned Francesco to the Xaverian Circumscription of the United States. 

• 1952-1953: study of the English language in Petersham MA.
• 1953-1955: philosophical studies in Holliston, MA.
• 1955-1959: theological studies in Holliston, MA (1955-1957), and Franklin, WI (1957-1959). 

During his formation in the US, he made his Perpetual Profession in Franklin, WI (August 15^th, 1958) and, also in Franklin, he was Ordained to the Priesthood (February 2^nd, 1959). 

Upon concluding his initial formation, Fr. Francesco was assigned to the Circumscription of the United States. He remained there for 15 years, carrying out several tasks: 

In the Minor Seminary of Holliston, MA:

• 1959-1962: spiritual director.
• 1960-1962: in charge of constructions.
• 1961-1962: assistant to the treasurer.
• 1962-1968: treasurer of the community.

In Franklin, WI:

• 1968-1974: rector of the Theologate (1968-1974).
• 1968-1971: Regional Councillor.
• 1971-1974: Vice-Regional Superior.

In 1974, Fr. Francesco was assigned to the Xaverian Circumscription of North Brazil.

• 1974: study of the Portuguese language in Bujaru, Parà.
• 1974-1975: Vice-Pastor of St Anna Parish in Bujaru, Parà.
• 1976-1978: Pastor of the same St Anna Parish.
• 1978-1983: Regional Superior of North Brazil. 

In 1983, Fr. Francesco took part in the 11^th General Chapter, during which he was elected Vicar General (1983-1989). Consequently, he left Amazonia and moved to Rome. As a Vicar General, he generously collaborated on the leadership of the Congregation and made many visits to the Circumscriptions. 

Fr. Francesco’s service within the General Direction of the Congregation concluded with the 12^th General Chapter (June-July 1989). He was assigned to the Circumscription of the United States. There he remained for the rest of his life (1989-2026).

• 1990-1991: sabbatical year in San José, California.
• 1991-1993: rector of the community in Holliston, MA. In that same period, he was also Regional Councillor (1990-1993).
• 1993-2000: Superior Regional of the US Circumscription. 
• 1995: Fr. Francesco takes part in the 13^thGeneral Chapter (June-July 1995). 
• 2000-2004: Regional Councillor.

After participating in the Three-months ongoing formation programme in Tavernerio (Italy), Fr. Francesco was sent to Holliston, MA, where he carried out various tasks:

• 2000-2003: rector of the community.
• 2003-2010: ministry. 
• 2003-2014: rector of the “Fatima Shrine”.
• 2004-2008: vice rector of the community.
• 2014-2022: assistant at the “Fatima Shrine”.

From January 2023, he was involved in ministry. 

“Dear Rino,

I thank you wholeheartedly for your brotherly and friendly letter with which you sent your best wishes for my fiftieth anniversary of missionary priesthood. I really appreciated your thought, your words of encouragement and appreciation. I am very grateful to the Lord for having achieved this wonderful milestone. The Lord has been very generous, good and merciful to me. I have truly received many blessings and experienced great joy in his service, which has been rich in both spiritual and human experiences: both rewarding and fulfilling. Along with the Founder, I can truly say: The Lord could not have been more benevolent towards us! Deo gratias! 

I am well and feel fit. I keep myself busy, and I am happy and grateful for still being able to be a “missionary” anywhere I do ministry for I am in contact with many people, both here at the Shrine and in the parishes.

On February 7^th, 2026, Fr. Francesco went up to Heaven to receive the reward of the good and faithful servant.
