Carissimi confratelli, sorelle Saveriane, laici saveriani, familiari e amici tutti, con un saluto particolare a tutti quelli che ci seguono attraverso lo streaming. «Sia da tutti conosciuto e amato nostro Signore Gesù Cristo»
Il 2 luglio 2020 ci siamo incontrati in questo stesso Santuario per dare inizio all’anno giubilare della nostra Famiglia. Eravamo nelle gravi circostanze causate dalla pandemia del COVID-19. Oggi ringraziamo il Signore perché le cose vanno un po' meglio. Speriamo che questa esperienza di fragilità e di incertezza che abbiamo vissuto e stiamo tuttora vivendo ci aiuti a trovare modi più umani, più solidali, più fraterni di impostare la vita per tutti gli esseri umani senza lasciare da parte, senza scartare quelli che apparentemente contano poco; ma noi sappiamo che ogni essere umano è prezioso agli occhi di Dio.
Oggi, 3 ottobre 2021, nella XXVII Domenica del Tempo Ordinario, ci troviamo di nuovo insieme per concludere questo anno di grazia: 100 anni dell’approvazione delle prime Costituzioni e invio della Lettera Testamento, e 125 anni dall’inizio a Parma di ciò che siamo diventati oggi.
C’è una particolarità in questa celebrazione: la presenza qui dei confratelli che svolgono il servizio dell’autorità all’interno della nostra Famiglia e che stanno partecipando all’incontro della COSUMA che si sta svolgendo nella comunità di Tavernerio. Assieme ai laici saveriani, famigliari, benefattori e amici, sono presenti anche le sorelle Saveriane che stanno celebrando il loro X Capitolo Generale. Quindi l’intera famiglia saveriana è rappresentata qui in questa celebrazione eucaristica conclusiva.
La conclusione dell’anno giubilare non vuol dire chiudere la porta, ma aprirla ancora di più verso quell’orizzonte immenso che Dio ci indica, che è la missione della Chiesa, cioè che Gesù Cristo sia conosciuto ed amato da tutti i popoli della terra.
Noi, saveriani, partecipiamo a questa missione che Gesù Cristo ha affidato alla Chiesa con una particolarità ben precisa: testimoniare ed annunciare l’amore di Dio manifestato in Gesù Cristo a quei popoli, gruppi umani, persone concrete che non ne hanno fatto ancora l’esperienza. Era il desiderio che Conforti portava nel suo cuore sin dalla sua giovinezza. Desiderio che lo portò a concepire e poi a dare inizio all’audace progetto, che con il passare degli anni si è concretizzato in ciò che siamo oggi: la Famiglia saveriana.
Ringraziamo il Signore che un giorno ci ha fatto conoscere questa Famiglia. Lì abbiamo visto e trovato il nostro posto nella Chiesa, il luogo che il Signore, nel suo amore, aveva riservato per ognuno di noi. Siamo arrivati da luoghi differenti, con tradizioni culturali e lingue diverse, ma con lo stesso amore e passione: Gesù Cristo e la sua missione di salvezza per l’umanità. È lui, il Signore Gesù, che ci ha portato qui dove siamo oggi.
È questa passione che un giorno ci ha portato a lasciare i genitori, i fratelli, le sorelle, i parenti, gli amici, il proprio paese… par andare lì dove il Signore ci ha indicato. Quei nuovi luoghi sono diventati i nostri luoghi; quelle persone che ci hanno accolto sono diventate le nostre famiglie, le nostre mamme, i nostri fratelli, le nostre sorelle; quelle lingue così strane e differenti dalle nostre, sono diventate le nostre lingue con le quali abbiamo potuto esprimere la passione che portavamo nei nostri cuori. Allo stesso tempo abbiamo potuto ascoltare e ricevere ciò che quei popoli avevano di meglio da trasmetterci. Ci siamo arricchiti tanto, così da poter dire che siamo nati di nuovo, ora non secondo la carne umana ma secondo lo Spirito.
Così facendo, ci rendiamo conto che il/la missionario/a mostra al mondo, con l’eloquenza della testimonianza della propria vita, il progetto di amore di Dio che si realizza concretamente attraverso la nostra povera ma grande collaborazione. Era il pensiero, il desiderio profondo di Mons. Conforti: “…portando così il povero nostro contributo all’avveramento del vaticinio di Cristo, auspicante la formazione di una sola famiglia che abbracci l’umanità” (LT 1). Ne siamo quotidianamente testimoni. Il bene che il Vangelo fa a chi lo accoglie come Parola di vita di Dio per la sua vita, l’abbiamo visto con i nostri occhi, ascoltato con il nostro udito e toccato con le nostre mani. Possiamo dire senza paura di sbagliare che non è lo stesso una persona o un popolo che conosce e ama Gesù Cristo, che uno che non lo conosce né lo ama ancora. Per questo diciamo al Signore: Grazie per il tuo Vangelo. Ci fa tanto bene e ce ne tanto bisogno!
L’ideale è grande, è sublime e quindi impegnativa: il mondo, una famiglia. Ogni giorno, lo Spirito del Signore ci invita, ci sfida a vedere il mondo con gli occhi di Dio. Per accogliere positivamente la sfida dello Spirito bisogna “vivere quella vita di fede, che deve essere la vita del giusto, in genere, e tanto più del Sacerdote e dell’Apostolo, la quale ci porti cercare e volere il beneplacito di Dio e non il nostro. E vivremo di una tal vita, se prenderemo la Fede a regola indeclinabile della nostra condotta per guisa che informi i pensieri, le intenzioni, i sentimenti, le parole e le opere nostre. Vivremo di questa vita se in tutte le contingenze terremo Cristo innanzi agli occhi della nostra mente, ed egli ci accompagnerà ovunque …” (LT 7).
Siamo frutto del dono della fede in Dio. Fede viva, incarnata, di relazione, di intimità, di dialogo con Lui, il Signore e Dio della vita.
Mons. Conforti ha voluto e ha lottato sin dall’inizio dell’audace progetto perché questa vita missionaria fosse vissuta dai suoi figli nella modalità concreta della vita religiosa. “La vita apostolica, infatti, congiunta alla professione dei voti religiosi, costituisce per sé quanto di più perfetto, secondo il Vangelo, si possa concepire. Per la professione dei voti religiosi noi veniamo a morire a tutto ciò che è terrestre per vivere una vita nascosta in Dio, con Gesù Cristo … I voti religiosi sono vincoli santi … la professione dei voti religiosi equivale in certo qual modo ad un secondo Battesimo, perché inizio di una nuova vita” (LT 2).
E parlando dei tre voti lo faceva con queste parole: “Amiamo la povertà, che è la prima rinuncia che Cristo esige da coloro che vogliono essere perfetti e si propongono seguirlo da vicino. Egli vuol regnare da solo sui loro cuori, epperciò esige da essi il distacco affettivo ed effettivo da tutte le cose della terra” (LT 4). “Amiamo inoltre e coltiviamo con ogni cura quella virtù che ci rende simili agli Angeli” (LT 5), “Ci sia poi caro in particolar modo il sacrificio della volontà che noi facciamo a Dio per mezzo del voto dell’obbedienza … perché a mezzo dell’obbedienza a lui facciamo sacrifizio del più gran dono che nell’ordine naturale egli ci abbia elargito: la libertà” (LT 6).
Amare il dono di Dio vuol dire prendersene cura. Nessuno può forzarci a farlo. L’amore è amore, non obbligo. Il Vangelo d’oggi dice: “L’uomo lascerà suo padre e sua madre e si unirà a sua moglie e i due diventeranno una carne sola. Così non sono più due, ma una sola carne. Dunque, l'uomo non divida quello che Dio ha congiunto” (Mc 10,7-9). È l’amore di Cristo che fa diventare un uomo e una donna marito e moglie per l’eternità. È Cristo in mezzo a loro, il legame che unisce due persone in un solo essere. È Cristo che indica loro il cammino da percorrere insieme, così che diventino testimoni dell’unione e della fedeltà di Cristo con la Chiesa.
La professione religiosa è una parola data al Signore e alla Chiesa in tutta libertà. Lo facciamo perché sentiamo nel profondo dei nostri cuori che il Signore ha già messo in noi questo dono. A noi, con l’aiuto dello Spirito, la responsabilità di curarlo e svilupparlo perché dia frutto abbondate, il frutto del regno di Dio.
Siamo entrati nell’Istituto Saveriano con questo grande amore al Signore e con il desiderio e lo zelo missionario, e poi man mano abbiamo scoperto che chi ci accoglieva era una Famiglia. Famiglia che - Mons. Conforti diceva ai suoi figli – bisogna “considerare qual madre” (LT 10). Apparteniamo a questa Famiglia saveriana per pura grazia di Dio. È un grande dono, un grande regalo del Signore.
La vitalità di questa Famiglia dipende dall’amore che portiamo per essa. Più grande è l’amore e la “carità a tutta prova per i membri che la compongono” più bella è la nostra Famiglia saveriana.
Oggi è un giorno particolare per rinnovare innanzitutto davanti a Dio Trinità la nostra professione religioso-missionaria, e il nostro amore e fedeltà a questa nostra Famiglia che ci ha accolto e dato il nome che portiamo: missionari saveriani.
Come testimoni, prendiamo il nostro padre Fondatore, san Guido M Conforti, e i nostri confratelli e sorelle che hanno vissuto nell’amore e nella fedeltà la vocazione particolare saveriana, specialmente i nostri martiri.
Penso che sia ciò che il Signore ci chiede per continuare il cammino iniziato 125 anni fa, e così poter continuare a camminare per almeno altri cento anni … fino all’eternità.
Ed in questo momento, in cui sento tutta la soavità
della carità di Cristo, di gran lunga più forte d’ogni affetto naturale,
e tutta mi si affaccia la grandezza della causa
che ci stringe in una sola famiglia, abbraccio con effusione di cuore,
come se fossero qui presenti, quanti hanno dato il nome
al pio nostro Sodalizio e quanti saranno per darglielo in seguito
e per tutti invoco da Dio nella grande mia indegnità
lo spirito degli Apostoli e la perseveranza finale.
Con l’augurio che tutti un giorno abbiamo a ritrovarci in Cielo
nella stessa patria beata, dopo d’essere stati membri
della stessa famiglia in terra vi benedico (LT 11).

Dear confreres, Xaverian sisters, Xaverian laity, family and friends all, with a special greeting to all those who follow us through streaming.
"May our Lord Jesus Christ be known and loved by all."
On July 2, 2020, we met in this Shrine dedicated to San Guido Conforti, to begin the Jubilee Year of our Family. We were in the difficult circumstances caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. Today we thank the Lord that things are a little better. We hope that this experience of fragility and uncertainty that we have lived and are still living will help us to find more humane, more supportive, more fraternal ways of approaching life for all human beings without leaving aside, without discarding those who apparently count for little. We know that every human being is precious in God's eyes.
Today, October 3, 2021, on the XXVII Sunday of Ordinary Time, we are together again to conclude this year of grace: 100 years since the approval of the First Constitutions and the sending of the Letter Testament, and 125 years since the beginning in Parma of what we have become today.
There is a particularity in this celebration: the presence of the confreres who carry out the service of authority within our Family and who are participating in the COSUMA meeting that is taking place in the community of Tavernerio. Together with the Xaverian laity, family members, benefactors and friends, the Xaverian sisters who are celebrating their 10th General Chapter are also present. Therefore, the entire Xaverian family is represented here in this concluding Eucharistic celebration.
The conclusion of the Jubilee year does not mean to close the door, but to open it even wider towards that immense horizon that God indicates to us, which is the mission of the Church, that is, that Jesus Christ be known and loved by all the peoples of the earth.
We, as Xaverians, participate in this mission that Jesus Christ has entrusted to the Church with a very precise characteristic: to witness to and proclaim the love of God manifested in Jesus Christ to those peoples, human groups, concrete persons who have not yet experienced it. This was the desire that Conforti carried in his heart since his youth. A desire that led him to conceive and then to begin the audacious project that, over the years, became what we are today: the Xaverian Family.
We thank the Lord that one day made us know this Family. There, we saw and found our place in the Church, the place that the Lord, in his love, had reserved for each one of us. We came from different places, with different cultural traditions and languages, but with the same love and passion: Jesus Christ and his mission of salvation for humanity. It is he, the Lord Jesus, who brought us here where we are today.
It is this passion that one day led us to leave our parents, our brothers, our sisters, our relatives, our friends, our own country... to go where the Lord showed us. Those new places became our places; those people who welcomed us became our families, our mothers, our brothers, our sisters; those languages, so strange and different from ours, became our languages with which we could express the passion we carried in our hearts. At the same time we were able to listen to and receive what those peoples had best to transmit to us. We were enriched so much that we could say that we were born again, now not according to human flesh but according to the Spirit.
In doing so, we realize that the missionary shows the world, with the eloquence of the testimony of his/her own life, God's project of love that is concretely realized through our poor but great collaboration. This was the thought, the profound desire of Bishop Conforti: “thus giving our own modest contribution to the fulfillment of Christ’s wish: the formation of a single Christian family embracing all humanity" (LT 1). We are daily witnesses to this. The good that the Gospel does to those who accept it as God's Word of life for their lives, we have seen with our eyes, heard with our ears and touched with our hands. We can say without fear of making a mistake that it is not the same a person or a people who know and love Jesus Christ, that one who does not know him or does not love him yet. That is why we say to the Lord: Thank you for your Gospel. It does us so much good and we need it so much!
The ideal is great, it is sublime and therefore challenging: the world, a family. Every day, the Spirit of the Lord invites us, challenges us, to see the world with God's eyes. In order to positively accept the Spirit's challenge, “we should strive to always live that life of faith proper to the just in general, and more so to the priest and apostle in particular: a constant desire and quest for God’s will rather than our own. We will live in this way if we make faith the absolute norm for our conduct and allow it to shape our thoughts,motives, sentiments, words and deeds. We will live this way if in all circumstances we keep Christ in mind; he will always be with us, …" (LT 7). We are the fruit of the gift of faith in God. A Living faith, incarnate, of relationship, of intimacy, of dialogue with Him, the Lord and God of life.
Bishop Conforti wanted and fought from the beginning of the audacious project so that this missionary life would be lived by his children in the concrete manner of religious life. “The apostolic life, combined with the profession of the religious vows, is in itself the most perfect life possible according to the Gospel. Through the profession of the religious vows we die to all earthly things in order to live a life hidden in God with Jesus Christ. ... Religious vows are holy bonds ... Religious profession is akin to a second baptism because it is the beginning of a new life” (LT 2).
And when he spoke of the three vows, he did so with these words: "Let us love poverty, which is the first sacrifice Christ demands of thosewho aspire to perfection andwould follow him more closely.Hewishes to reign unchallenged in our hearts and, therefore, he demands that they detach themselves entirely from all worldly things” (LT 4). "Let us love and cultivate with great care that virtue which makes us similar to the Angels” (LT 5). “Let us treasure in a particular way the sacrifice of our will to God through the vow of obedience. … Through obedience we offer to Him the greatest natural gift he has bestowed on us: our freewill” (LT 6).
To love God's gift is to take care of it. No one can force us to do this. Love is love, not obligation. Today's Gospel says: “ A man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and the two will become one flesh. So they are no longer two, but one flesh. Therefore what God has joined together, let no one separate.” (Mk 10:7-9) It is the love of Christ that makes a man and a woman husband and wife for eternity. It is Christ in their midst, the bond that unites two persons into one being. It is Christ who shows them the path to walk together, so that they become witnesses to Christ's union and fidelity with the Church.
Religious profession is a word given to the Lord and the Church in all freedom. We do it because we feel in the depths of our hearts that the Lord has already placed this gift in us. It is up to us, with the help of the Spirit, to take care of it and develop it so that it may bear abundant fruit, the fruit of the Kingdom of God.
We entered the Xaverian Institute with this great love for the Lord and with a missionary desire and zeal, and then we gradually discovered that those who welcomed us were a Family. A Family that - Bishop Conforti told his children - “we must look upon as a mother" (LT 10). We belong to this Xaverian Family by the pure grace of God. It is a great gift, a great gift of the Lord.
The vitality of this Family depends on the love we bear for it. The greater the love and "charity to the fullest for the members who make it up", the more beautiful our Xaverian Family is.
Today is a special day to renew first of all before God the Trinity our religious-missionary profession, and our love and fidelity to this Family of ours, that has welcomed us and given us the name we bear: Xaverian missionaries.
As witnesses of all this, we take our Founder and Father, Saint Guido M. Conforti, and our confreres and sisters who have lived the particular Xaverian vocation in love and fidelity, especially our martyrs.
I think this is what the Lord is asking of us in order to continue the journey that began 125 years ago, and so be able to continue walking for at least another hundred years ... until eternity.
«Right now, as I feel the love of Christ in all its fullness, a
love by far superior to any natural affection, and I see
clearly the greatness of the cause that unites us in a single family,
I warmly embrace the present and future members of our
Society, as if they were here present. Unworthy though I am, I
ask the Lord to grant everyone the spirit of the Apostles and the
gift of final perseverance.
In the hope that we will one day meet together in heaven, and
share the same heavenlyhomeland,after having beenmembers
of the same family on earth, I bless you all» (LT 11).
