BURUNDI
Bujumbura, 20 agosto: con una settimana di anticipo sulla data prevista il Presidente Nku-runziza, riconfermato da elezioni contestate e poco democratiche, ha prestato giuramento per il terzo mandato presidenziale. La situa-zione socio-politica del Burundi resta ancora molto tesa e il futuro incerto e carico di paura.
I confratelli in questo agosto hanno organiz-zato due sessioni di formazione-discernimento per giovani “pre-finalisti” che deside-rano riflettere sulla vocazione saveriana.
Per il mese di settembre ne è prevista una terza, per i 48 “finalisti” seguiti dal P. Ruben. Tra questi verranno scelti quelli che inizie-ranno il cammino formativo in propedeutica.
SIERRA LEONE
Kissy, Freetown, 25 agosto: si sta conclu-dendo (a Wellington, parte est di Freetown) il mese di esperienza pastorale dei filosofi saveriani. Con il Saveriano incaricato della comunità “S. Francesco Saverio” visitano i cattolici e le loro famiglie della zona.
Con tale attività c’è la possibilità di un censimento dei cattolici, una conoscenza maggiore del territorio, un contatto con altre denomi-nazioni cristiane e coi musulmani.
È pure un importante segnale perché l’ebola aveva fatto sospendere visite non necessarie.
PARMA
Casa Madre, 26 agosto. In collegamento diretto con Radio Maria il mattutino con Rosario e Messa è stato trasmesso dal nostro santuario. Non è mancato l'Inno al Conforti e la preghiera per l'evangelizzazione dei popoli. Ad maiorem Dei gloriam !
La comunità si è stretta anche attorno ai due confratelli Renato Filippini e Dino Marconi nel XXV esatto della loro prima professione.
BRASILE NORD
Abaetetuba: uno spunto di P. De Vidi: «Ma il calcio non è uno sport trascendentale. Che 22 giovanotti corrano in calzoncini dietro ad una palla, è esilarante, ma non legittima certe cronache che ne fanno degli eroi da epopea. Eppure, tutti i quotidiani brasiliani riservano al calcio il 90% del quaderno dello sport».

Hortolândia 21-23 di Agosto: facendo memoria del 150º anno di vita di São Guido Maria Conforti, 160 giovani, provenienti dalla nostre parrocchie hanno vissuto una Tre giorni di studio, preghiera, fraternità e festa.
É il primo passo per creare la "Gioventú Missionaria Saveriana". É l'avvio di un rinnovato impegno nella pastorale giovanile accentuando ora con maggior forza la caratteristica missionaria e saveriana.

Bujumbura, 20 Aug: one week ahead of the scheduled date, President Nku-runziza was sworn in for a third presidential mandate after his victory in contested and undemocratic elections. The social and political situation is very tense and the future uncertain and full of fear.
During the month of August, the confreres organized two sessions of formation-discernment for young people who wish to reflect on the Xaverian vocation.
A third session has been planned for September for a group of 48 young people who are followed by Fr. Ruben. The candidates for the introductory year will be chosen from this group.
SIERRA LEONE
Kissy, Freetown, 25 Aug: the month-long pastoral experience of the Xaverian philosophy students in Wellington (to the east of Freetown), is coming to an end. They visited the Catholic families of the area with the confrere in charge of the St. Francis Xavier community.
This activity provides an opportunity to carry out a census of the Catholic population, obtain a better knowledge of the territory and establish contact with other Christian denominations and with the Muslims.
It is also an important sign because the Ebola outbreak had led to the prohibition of non-necessary visits.
PARMA
Mother House, 26 Aug: morning prayer and the rosary were transmitted from our Sanctuary during a live broadcast with Radio Maria. The Conforti hymn was sung and the prayer for the evangelization of peoples was recited. Ad maiorem Dei gloriam !
The community celebrated the XXV anniversary of the first profession of Renato Filippini and Dino Marconi.
NORTH BRAZILBRASILE NORD
Abaetetuba: Fr De Vidi writes: «Soccer is not a transcendental sport. 22 young men chasing after a ball does not justify their elevation to the status of heroes by the press. Yet all the Brazilian newspapers dedicate 90% of their sports coverage to reports on soccer».

SOUTH BRAZIL
Hortolândia 21-23 Aug: in commemoration of the 150th anniversary of Conforti’s birth, 160 young people from our parishes spent three days in study, prayer, fraternity and celebration.
This is the first step towards creating the "Xaverian Missionary Youth" group. The aim is to ensure a renewed commitment to pastoral youth work by emphasizing the missionary and Xaverian dimensions.
