Martedì 24 dicembre 2024, con l’apertura della Porta Santa nella Basilica di San Pietro a Roma, avrà inizio il Giubileo ordinario dell’anno 2025. Con una lettera pubblicata l’ 11 febbraio 2022,

Papa Francesco annunciava l’Anno Giubilare indicandone il motto: “Pellegrini di Speranza”. In questa lettera il papa afferma: “Dobbiamo tenere accesa la fiaccola della speranza che ci è stata donata, e fare di tutto perché ognuno riacquisti la forza e la certezza di guardare al futuro con animo aperto, cuore fiducioso e mente lungimirante”.

Da quell’annuncio è iniziato un percorso di preparazione: il 2023 dedicato allo studio delle Costituzioni del Concilio Vaticano II e il 2024 centrato sulla preghiera. papa Francesco ha inserito il Giubileo 2025 in un cammino di continuità e crescita, ricordando il Giubileo del 2000, quello Straordinario della Misericordia del 2015 e l’attesa per la celebrazione dei 2000 anni della Redenzione nel 2033.

La parola “speranza” proviene dal latino “spes”, a sua volta derivato dalla radice sanscrita “spa” che significa “tendere verso una meta”,  “guardare avanti”. Questo concetto evoca l’immagine del pellegrinaggio: aprire gli occhi e mettersi in cammino. Sarà questa l’esperienza dei pellegrini, attesi a Roma e nelle diocesi di tutto il mondo. In cammino, “ancorati” nel Signore, canteremo le parole dell’Inno: “Fiamma viva della mia speranza, questo canto giunga fino a Te! Grembo eterno d’infinita vita, nel cammino io confido in Te”. Con la preghiera, invocheremo che la Grazia del Signore “[...] ci trasformi in coltivatori operosi dei semi evangelici”. (Adriano Cunha Lima sx)

On Tuesday, December 24^th, 2024, the opening of the Holy Door of the Basilica of Saint Peter, Rome, will initiate the Ordinary Jubilee Year of 2025. In a letter published on February 11^th, 2022, Pope Francis announced the Jubilee Year and its motto: “Pilgrims of Hope”.

In the same letter, the Pope writes “We must fan the flame of hope that has been given us, and help everyone to gain new strength and certainty by looking to the future with an open spirit, a trusting heart and far-sighted vision.”

Following that announcement, a journey of preparation began: the year 2023 was dedicated to the study of the Constitutions of the II Vatican Council, whereas the year 2024 centered on prayer.

In the Bull of Indiction Spes non confundit, Pope Francis placed the Jubilee 2025 in a growing continuum by recalling the Jubilee 2000, the Extraordinary Jubilee of Mercy 2015 and the approaching celebration of 2000 years of the Redemption in 2033.

The Latin word Spes (hope) comes from the Sanskrit root spa which means ‘striving towards a goal’, ‘looking ahead’, a concept evokes the image of pilgrimage: opening one’s eyes and setting out. This will be the experience of the pilgrims whom Rome and dioceses all over the world are waiting for. On our way, ‘anchored’ in the Lord, we will sing these words of the Hymn: “Like a flame my hope is burning, may my song arise to you: Source of life that has no ending, on life’s path I trust in you.” Through prayer, we will invoke: may the Lord’s Grace “transform us into industrious cultivators of the Gospel seeds.” (Adriano Cunha Lima s.x.)
