In occasione del 60^mo anniversario del martirio del Beato Vittorio Faccin, l’Arcivescovo Abate mons. Erio Castellucci ha presieduto l’Eucaristia nel paese dove i genitori di Vittorio, da Villaverla (Vicenza), si trasferirono nel 1951 e dove venne celebrato, il 7 febbraio 1965, un solenne ufficio funebre dopo la notizia ufficiale della morte di Vittorio e dei suoi compagni martiri.

Alla celebrazione hanno partecipato i parrocchiani, fra cui Dante, fratello di Vittorio, e altri parenti. In divisa, c’erano una ventina di scouts “rangers” di Nonantola, il cui gruppo è stato intitolato nel 1983 a fratel Vittorio Faccin.

Nella sua omelia, l’arcivescovo ha spiegato cosa distingue un assassinio da un martirio:

“… non è un incidente di percorso, un imprevisto. È il culmine, è l’apice del dono della vita. Ringraziamo il Signore perché non si fa mai travolgere dalle storie umane di violenza ma prospetta sempre dentro ad ogni storia umana una liberazione. Alla fine, vince chi si offre, non chi toglie la vita ad altri. Vince chi la dona. Nell’eternità il Signore valorizza e porta a pienezza ogni germe di amore…” (Faustino Turco sx)

On the 60^th anniversary of Blessed Vittorio Faccin martyrdom, the Archbishop and Abbot Msgr. Erio Castellucci presided over the Eucharist in the town where, in 1951, Vittorio’s parents moved to from Villaverla (Vicenza, Italy) and where, on February 7^th, 1965, a solemn funerary service was held following the official news of the death of Vittorio and his companions.

This time, the celebration was attended by the parishioners, among whom was Dante, brother of Vittorio, and other relatives. From Nonantola, about twenty scouts “rangers” in uniform joined the celebration. In 1983, their group was named after Brother Vittorio Faccin. In the homely, the Archbishop explained the difference between a murder and martyrdom:

“[Martyrdom] is not like an unexpected car accident. It is rather the conclusion and apex of the giving one’s life. Let us thank the Lord because he never gets overwhelmed by human stories of violence but always envisages liberation within each human story. In the end, the winners are not those who take the lives of others, but those who offer their life for others. In His eternity, the Lord enhances and brings to fullness every seed of love.” (Faustino Turco s.x.)
