In occasione dell’Angelus al termine della celebrazione della “Domenica della Parola” (Domenica 21 gennaio 2024), papa Francesco ha annunciato che “oggi iniziamo l’Anno della preghiera dedicato a riscoprire il grande valore e l’assoluto bisogno della preghiera nella vita personale, della Chiesa e del mondo. I prossimi mesi, ha continuato il papa, ci condurranno all’apertura della Porta Santa, con cui daremo inizio al Giubileo del 2025. Invito tutti ad intensificare la preghiera per prepararci a vivere bene questo evento di grazia”.

Nella lettera di Papa Francesco per il Giubileo 2025 al pro-prefetto del Dicastero per la Promozione della Nuova Evangelizzazione (Mons. Rino Fisichella) aveva già parlato di questa iniziativa:

…in questo tempo di preparazione, fin da ora mi rallegra pensare che si potrà dedicare l’anno precedente l’evento giubilare, il 2024, a una grande “sinfonia” di preghiera. Anzitutto per recuperare il desiderio di stare alla presenza del Signore, ascoltarlo e adorarlo. Preghiera, inoltre, per ringraziare Dio dei tanti doni del suo amore per noi e lodare la sua opera nella creazione, che impegna tutti al rispetto e all’azione concreta e responsabile per la sua salvaguardia. Preghiera come voce “del cuore solo e dell’anima sola” (cfr At 4,32), che si traduce nella solidarietà e nella condivisione del pane quotidiano. Preghiera che permette ad ogni uomo e donna di questo mondo di rivolgersi all’unico Dio, per esprimergli quanto è riposto nel segreto del cuore. Preghiera come via maestra verso la santità, che conduce a vivere la contemplazione anche in mezzo all’azione. Insomma, un intenso anno di preghiera, in cui i cuori si aprano a ricevere l’abbondanza della grazia, facendo del “Padre nostro”, l’orazione che Gesù ci ha insegnato, il programma di vita di ogni suo discepolo.

During the Angelus, at the end of the celebration of the "Sunday of the Word" (Sunday 21 January 2024), Pope Francis announced that "today we begin the Year of Prayer dedicated to rediscovering the great value and absolute need for prayer in personal life, in the Church and in the world". "The coming months, the pope continued, will lead us to the opening of the Holy Door, with which we will begin the Jubilee of 2025. I invite everyone to intensify prayer to prepare ourselves to live this event of grace well".

Already in the letter addressed to the pro-prefect of the Dicastery for Evangelization, Monsignor Rino Fisichella, the Pope had referred to this matter:

In this time of preparation, I would greatly desire that we devote 2024, the year preceding the Jubilee event, to a great “symphony” of prayer.  Prayer, above all else, to renew our desire to be in the presence of the Lord, to listen to him and to adore him. Prayer, moreover, to thank God for the many gifts of his love for us and to praise his work in creation, which summons everyone to respect it and to take concrete and responsible steps to protect it. Prayer as the expression of a single “heart and soul” (cf. Acts 4:32), which then translates into solidarity and the sharing of our daily bread. Prayer that makes it possible for every man and woman in this world to turn to the one God and to reveal to him what lies hidden in the depths of their heart. Prayer as the royal road to holiness, which enables us to be contemplative even in the midst of activity. In a word, may it be an intense year of prayer in which hearts are opened to receive the outpouring of God’s grace and to make the “Our Father,” the prayer Jesus taught us, the life programme of each of his disciples.
