Il Pontificio Consiglio per la Promozione dell’Unità dei Cristiani e la Commissione ‘Fede e Costituzione’ del Consiglio Ecumenico delle Chiese, hanno preparato il sussidio per la Settimana di Preghiera per l’Unità dei Cristiani: “In Oriente abbiamo visto apparire la sua stella e siamo venuti qui per onorarlo”.

Nella prefazione, il comitato organizzatore scrive:  “I cristiani del Medio Oriente offrono questo materiale per la Settimana di preghiera per l’unità consapevoli che il mondo condivide molti dei loro stessi travagli e delle difficoltà da loro sperimentate e anela ad una luce che possa dissipare le tenebre sul cammino verso il Salvatore. La pandemia mondiale di COVID-19, la conseguente crisi economica e il fallimento delle strutture politiche, economiche e sociali che avrebbero dovuto proteggere i più deboli e vulnerabili, hanno evidenziato il desiderio profondo, a livello globale, che una luce brilli nell’oscurità. La stella che brillò in oriente, nel Medio Oriente, duemila anni fa ci chiama ancora verso la mangiatoia, dove Cristo nasce. Ci attira laddove lo Spirito di Dio è vivo e operante, e ci richiama alla realtà del nostro battesimo e alla conversione del cuore”.

The Pontifical Council for Promoting Christian Unity and the Commission ‘Faith and Constitution’ of World Council of Churches have prepared the materials for the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity: “We observed his star in the East and we came to worship him.”

In the preface, the organising committee writes: “The Christians of the Middle East offer these resources for the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity conscious that the world shares many of the travails and difficulties that they experience and yearns for a light to lead the way to the Saviour who can overcome darkness. The COVID-19 global pandemic, the ensuing economic crisis, and the failure of political, economic and social structures to protect the weakest and most vulnerable, have underlined the global need for a light to shine in the darkness. The star that shone in the east, the Middle East, two thousand years ago still calls us to the manger, to where Christ is born. It draws us to where the Spirit of God is alive and active, to the reality of our baptism, and to the transformation of our hearts.”
