Il mattino del 21 febbraio 2011, nella canonica di Forni di Sopra, è stato trovato morto P. Renzo Bon che dal 1999 fungeva da parroco di quella comunità parrocchiale. L'autopsia, d'obbligo in queste circostanze, ha confermato che il decesso era sopravvenuto per cause naturali e si era verificato la sera precedente.
P. Renzo era prossimo ai 79 anni, essendo nato a Cussignacco di Udine il 20.3.1932.
A scorrere qualche lettera del P. Renzo, quindicenne, si ricava l'impressione che egli sia nato con la missione nel cuore. «Sento – scriveva nel dicembre del 1947– una inclinazione naturale a fare del bene al mio prossimo … sento in me stesso una forza, una cosa, non so nemmeno come spiegarmi, che mi spinge a questo spirito di sacrificio e di generosità, nella mia obbedienza e nel mio lavoro … desidero continuare ad amare il Signore in questo modo perché, e lo devo confessare, solamente così trovo la felicità».
Per questo nel 1947 lasciò il seminario minore dell'archidiocesi di Udine ed entrò tra i Saveriani a Grumone dove frequentò la V ginnasio. L'anno successivo passò a S. Pietro in Vincoli per il Noviziato, concluso con la Professione religiosa-missionaria il 18.10.49. Fu quindi a Desio per i tre anni di Liceo e, dopo il prefettato a Udine, a Piacenza, dove frequentò i quattro anni di teologia. Il 16 marzo 1957 fu ordinato presbitero. «È un carattere un pochino singolare – si legge nella presentazione agli Ordini maggiori – ma negli ultimi due anni ho notato un forte miglioramento … So che si cura molto spiritualmente, che ama tanto l'Istituto e la vocazione, che dimostra molto zelo per le anime e per le cose di chiesa. Ha tanto spirito di sacrificio; è lavoratore, pratico e organizzatore»..
All'uscita dalla teologia P. Renzo fu trattenuto in Italia dove le varie case dell'Istituto, grazie alle numerose vocazioni, necessitavano di personale per l'animazione missionaria e vocazionale, per la formazione, l'insegnamento e l'economia. Per cinque anni fu animatore, insegnante ed economo, a Brescia il primo anno, poi a Udine.
Nel 1962 fu destinato alla missione del Congo. A novembre era già a Uvira alle prese con il Shwahili e con l'inserimento nel nuovo ambiente. Quest'ultima operazione non gli fu facilissima anche perché il paese era appena diventato indipendente ed era in atto la rivolta mulelista. E poi «… ad una certa età costa assai l'inizio di una nuova vita. C'è anche però la gioia di trovarsi finalmente nella terra da tempo aspettata. Sono contento e Le posso dire che sento già di amare questi luoghi. Sono veramente belli!» (13.12.62). «Comincio – aggiungeva il 21.5.63 – a scoprire soprattutto l'anima di questa gente … che si presenta in una maniera tale che riesce difficile non volerle bene». A Uvira fu impiegato in diversi servizi: cerimoniere della cattedrale, segretario particolare del Nunzio (per qualche mese), vicerettore del Seminario di Mungombe (65-67) e finalmente il servizio pastorale: parroco a Luvungi (67-74), Kidote, cappellano a Kiliba, ancora parroco a Baraka e, dal '79 Segretario del Vescovo e cancelliere.
Nel 1984 accettò un periodo di avvicendamento anche perché convinto che la sua presenza ad Uvira «non avrebbe contribuito alla normalizzazione dei rapporti tra Congregazione e diocesi … Prima di tutto il bene delle anime, che è quello che conta» (1.5.84). Rientrò in Italia e per cinque anni fu economo della comunità di Taranto e animatore missionario. Quindi nuovamente in Zaire a Kasongo, segretario del Vescovo (89-91). Dal 91 al 95 a Udine, economo. E dopo un ultimo servizio nella parrocchia di Kitutu (95-96), breve e per la situazione politica del Congo e per problemi di salute, a Udine addetto al ministero e all'animazione missionaria e, dal 1999, a Forni di Sopra con le funzioni di parroco. Sempre particolarmente attento alla liturgia e alla animazione missionaria della comunità cristiana.
«Sono convinto che nel mio caso io voglio bene alla "famiglia saveriana" quando sono in missione. La Congregazione resta sempre un mezzo per realizzare la Missione». «Non sono un missionario che vive sulle spine, che sogna soltanto di andarsene in Africa, ma che porta avanti con immutata dedizione il suo servizio al Signore e alla chiesa». Sono due scritti, del 1986 e 1988, che esprimono la doppia tensione di un missionario sempre attivo ovunque la Provvidenza l'ha chiamato.
Il Signore lo accolga nell'assemblea dei santi a celebrare in eterno l'amore di Dio.

Fr. Renzo Bon was found dead on Feb. 21, 2011 in the priest’s house at Forni di Sopra, where he had been serving as a parish priest since 1999. The post-mortem examination revealed that he had died of natural causes on the previous evening.
Born in Cussignacco di Udine, Italy, on March 20 1932, he was almost 79 years old.
The letters he wrote when he was just 15 years old give the impression that he was born with the mission in his heart. In 1947, he wrote: «I feel a natural inclination to do good for others… I feel something within myself that motivates me to this psirit of sacrifice and generosity, in my obedience and in my work… I desire to continue loving the Lord in this way because this is the only way I can find happiness ».
For this reason he left the minor seminary of the archdiocese of Udine in 1947 and joined the Xaverians at Grumone. The following year he moved to S. Pietro in Vincoli for Novitiate, which concluded with the First Profession on Oct. 18 1949. He then studied at Desio for three years before serving as prefect at Udine. He studied theology for four years at Piacenza and was ordained priest on March 16 1957. The report presenting him for Major Orders thus described him: «He is a somewhat peculiar character, but in the last two years I have noticed a great improvement… I know that he cultivates his spirituality, that he loves the Institute and his vocation very much, and is very zealous about anything that concerns the Church. He has a great spirit of sacrifice; he is a worker, practical and an organizer ».
After theology, Fr. Renzo was assigned to Italy where the various houses of the Institute, thanks to the numerous vocations, needed personnel for missionary and vocation animation, formation, teaching and administration. For five years he served as animator, teacher and administrator, for the first year at Brescia and thereafter at Udine.
He received his mission assignment to Congo in 1962, and arrived in November of that year at Uvira, where he studied Shwahili and settled down into his new surroundings. The latter was not the easiest of experience for him also because the country had just become independent and the revolt of Mulele’s supporters was in progress. Moreover «…it is quite difficult to begin a new life when one has reached a certain age. I also experience the joy of being in place where I longed to be. I am happy and I can tell you that I already love these places. They are truly beautiful!» (Dec. 13, 1962). On Dec. 21 1963, he wrote: «I am beginning to discover the soul of these people, and it is difficult not to love them». At Uvira he worked in various tasks: master of ceremonies in the cathedral, personal secretary of the Apostolic Nuncio (for some months), vice-rector of the Seminary of Mungombe (1965-67) and finally, in the pastoral ministry: he was parish priest at Luvungi (1967-74), Kidote, chaplain at Kiliba, parish priest at Baraka and, from 1979, secretary of the Bishop and chancellor.
In 1984 he accepted a period of rotation also because he was convinced that his presence at Uvira «would not have contributed to the normalization of the relationships between the Congregation and the diocese… First and foremost for the good of souls, that is the main thing» (May 1, 1984). He returned to Italy and for five years was administrator of the community of Taranto and missionary animator. Then, back again in Zaire, at Kasongo, he was the secretary of the Bishop (1989-91). From 1991 until 1995 he was administrator at Udine. After a final period of service in the parish of Kitutu (1995-96), which was cut short by the political situation of the D.R. Congo and by health problems, he went back to Udine where he worked in pastoral ministry and missionary animation. From 1999 until his death, he was parish priest at Forni di Sopra. He took special care of the liturgy and the missionary animation of the Christian community.
«I am convinced of my love for the “Xaverian family” when I am in the mission. The Congregation is always a means to fulfilling the Mission». «I am not a missionary who only dreams of going to Africa, but one that perseveres with unchanged devotion in his service to the Lord and to the Church». These two statements express the two-fold zeal of a missionary who was always active wherever Divine Providence called him.
