P. Luigi Terzoni

Lavorò in Italia e 24 anni in Brasile, di anni 73. Sepolto a Parma
P. Luigi Terzoni nacque a Montecarotto nel 1917 ed entrò nella nostra scuola apostolica di Poggio S. Marcello all'età di 13 anni.
Fu ordinato sacerdote nel 1944, lavorò nella nostra casa di Vicenza un paio d'anni, e poi a Parma si occupò nel ministero e nell'opera Divina Provvidenza. La sua voce tonante e il buon umore lo resero famigliare in tutte le parrocchie della diocesi parmense.
Nel 1957 partì per il Brasile. Dopo un rodaggio a Londrina, fu economo, consigliere e addetto alle costruzioni a S. Paolo (1958-1966). Poi per tre anni diresse la fazenda-segheria di Cafeizal.
Altri 10 anni li impegnò nell'Amazzonia ad Abaetetuba come aiuto al parroco, costruttore e procuratore delle missioni saveriane.
La sua azione dedicata spesso a faccende materiali non gli impedì d'essere sempre missionario. Sotto la scorza apparentemente rude conservava una viva sensibilità. La sua allegria attirava simpatia. I poveri lo chiamavano confidenzialmente P. Luison.
Un poeta, dopo averlo paragonato a una locomotiva, così lo descrive:
"Sotto la tuta unta da lavoro
Luison, sotto la tuta
era un pastore.
Lo udivi scatenato
nel tempio a trascinar la gente
commoverla alle lagrime,
lui che sapeva piangere. (G.Z., sx).
Nel 1981 fu costretto a tornare in Italia per curare la salute, e non poté più rivedere il Brasile.
A Parma continuò a lavorare in Procura finché fu costretto a letto. Fu un anno d'interminabile sofferenza fino al mattino del 31 dicembre 1990.
Ora gode il premio delle sue fatiche.

Fr. Luigi Terzoni died at the Mother House in Parma on Dec. 31 1990, of diabetes and hepatic cirrhosis. He was 73 years old, born at Montecarotto (Prov. of Ancona, Diocese of Jesi) on Sept. 17 1917.
He enter the apostolic school at Poggio S. Marcello when he was 13 years old. At the end of the Novitiate at S. Pietro in Vincoli, he professed religious missionary vows on Aug. 24 1935. He was ordained priest on May 28 1944, and was assigned at Vicenza for a couple of years, and then followed the Works of Divine Providence at Parma. His resounding voice and his good humor attracted many parishioners in the many places he visited in Parma’s diocese.
In 1957 he departed for Brazil. After a period in Londrina, he was Treasurer, councilor and in charge of constructions at S. Paolo (1958-66). He also directed the “fazenda” saw-mill technical school at Cafeizal for three years. He then moved up to the Amazons, where he spent about 10 years as assistant pastor at Abaetetuba, and following building projects of Xaverians missions.
Even though he was involved in many material buildings, he was a true missionary. Under that rough appearance, there was a sensitive soul. His joyfulness attracted many friends, and the poor called him “Fr. Luison.”
After being compared to a locomotive, Fr. G. Zaltron describes him thus: “Underneath a oil-stained working outfit, Luison was a pastor. You could hear him shouting in the temple, pushing people onward, moving them to tears… him, who knew how to cry.”
Because of health reasons he returned to Italy, and worked mainly at Parma in the Procure until he could. He was bedridden the last year of his life, with pains and suffering, until that morning of Dec. 31 1990. Now, he enjoys the eternal prize of his labors.
