ECCLESIA IN AMERICA

The Continental Synod was held in Rome (16 November-12 December 1997) as apreparation to the new millennium.

− The final Document was presented to the bishops of America in Mexico City on 22 January 1999, by Pope John Paul II, in the Basilica of Our Lady of Guadalupe.

− As a preparation to the 2000 Jubilee Year, in the context of the 5th centenary of the Evangelization of the American Continent (cfr. EA 2), and with the desire for a new evangelization, the aim of the Synod was to give new energy to the nations where the Christians have lost the value of the faith.
