Madrid 2015. Convegno A.V. (3)

2745/500

Madrid, 25 gennaio.

Madrid, 25 January. Today, Sunday, we went on a pilgrimage to Avila, the birthplace of St. Teresa (this year marks the 500th anniversary of her birth). We celebrated the Eucharist in the small church where she began the reform of the Carmelite Order. Fr. Daniel de Pablo Maroto, a Carmelite who is one of the greatest experts on the Saint, gave us a detailed and very interesting explanation of her life, humanity and spirituality-mysticism within the historical context of her life.

In the afternoon we visited the Monastero de la Encarnación where Teresa lived for 27 years before her conversion: today 30 cloistered Discalced Carmelite nuns live there and we had a very enriching meeting with two of them. They told us about their life, spirituality, consecration, daily life, etc. They also told us that their convent is full and the majority of the sisters are young. Many aspirants are waiting their turn to join the convent. We asked them to pray for the good outcome of our Meeting.

Our last visit in Avila was to the Monastery of the Dominican Fathers, which has played a very important role in history, both civil (it was built and inhabited by 'los Reyes Católicos') and religious. Fr. Antonio de Montesinos left from here to go to America, where he became the defender of the indigenous peoples in the New World and won Fr. Bartolomé de las Casas over to their cause. The Monastery is a very austere and inspiring place.

Back home, we celebrated the birthday of Fr. Patrick Duffy sx. Tomorrow will be a busy day: each Circumscription will present its report on its Vocation Animation activity and situation.

Hasta siempre.
