Carissimi, è da secoli che avrei dovuto farmi vivo con voi, ma è che gli auguri per il Natale scorso da parte della vostra Direzione Generale sono atterrati qui solo qualche giorno fa, chissà da quale incredibile e assurdo giro del.... mondo. Ma vi penso sempre a prescindere da questo. Vedo e so di tutto il vostro vasto navigare nelle storiche e nelle nuove periferie dei continenti. Ho letto e so di tante esperienze e soprattutto di situazioni che continuano ad essere al limite e ai limiti. Penso, per esempio, al Congo (Repubblica Democratica), al Burundi, all'Indonesia, al Bangladesh...   Ah, quanta ininterrotta violenza e ininterrotta partecipazione, condivisione, dedizione umana ed evangelica. Il Gesù che non molla! Ho visto un attimo sul giornalino “Missionari Saveriani” una foto del carissimo p. Giulio Simoncelli (r.i.p.). Abbiamo condiviso il banco per la quarta ginnasio nella casa Saveriana di Zelarino (Venezia), là in angolo, al fondo, a contatto con il muro freddissimo e la porticina della legnaia a cielo aperto. Fantastico! E Giulio, già lettore innamorato di Rosmini, da giovanissimo.

Dear Friends, I should have got in touch with you centuries ago, but your General Direction’s wishes for last Christmas landed here just a few days ago after a who-knows what incredible and absurd tour of the world. Even so, I have been thinking of you. I see and know about your vast sailing through historical and new peripheries of the continents. I read and know of your many experiences, particularly in situations that continue being extreme. I am thinking of, for instance, the Congo (Democratic Republic), Burundi, Indonesia, Bangladesh… Ah, how much uninterrupted violence and, yet, uninterrupted participation, sharing, human and evangelical dedication. Jesus never gives up! I glanced on the journal Missionari Saveriani a photo of the dearest Fr. Giulio Simoncelli (r.i.p.). We shared the same desk during the fourth year of high school in the Xaverian house of Zelarino (Venice). There, in a corner at the end of the classroom, we were next to the very cold wall and the little door of the open-air woodshed. It was fantastic! And Giulio was, at a very young age, already a fervent reader of Rosmini.

I keep following you as this world, society, costumes, all – and therefore also the Church – changes. Good luck for your work.
