Alcuni giorni fa si è parlato dell’incontro dei vari capi di stato della SADC (Southern African Development Community)  e dell’ EAC (East African Community): un incontro che ha suscitato molta speranza in vista di porre fine alle ostilità fra le forze del governo ed i ribelli del M23 sostenuti dal Rwanda. Da queste parti abbiamo visto la gente reagire positivamente: hanno cominciato a riaprire i negozi; alcune scuole che avevano già chiuso le porte ora le hanno riaperte. Il governatore di Bukavu ha anche esortato la gente ad avere fiducia dicendo che tutte le misure erano prese per mettere fine al caos dei giorni precedenti, giorni in cui alcuni soldati hanno rubato, saccheggiato, violentato nella zona dell’aeroporto di Kavumu e dintorni. Anche la nostra piccola fattoria di Kashusha non è stata risparmiata. Alcuni soldati armati hanno sfondato la porta e rubato capre e galline. Le notizie di ieri e di oggi sono piuttosto preoccupanti. Ieri uno scontro armato a Ihusi; oggi si sente dire che alcune bombe sono cadute sulle case a Kalehe. Il clima sta ritornando ad essere teso. Non si sa di cosa sarà fatto il domani, ma da queste parti la speranza non muore…  (messaggio inviato mercoledì 12 febbraio 2025).

A few days ago, the news reported on the meeting held by the various heads of state of the SADC (Southern African Development Community) and the EAC (East African Community). This meeting raised a lot of hope for an end to the hostilities between government forces and the Rwandan-backed M23 rebels. Around here we have seen people react positively: they have started to reopen shops; some schools that had already closed their doors have now reopened them. The governor of Bukavu also urged people to have confidence, saying that all measures were taken to put an end to the chaos of the previous days, days in which some soldiers stole, looted, raped in and around the Kavumu airport area. Even our small farm in Kashusha was not spared. Some armed soldiers broke down the door and stole goats and chickens. Yesterday and today's news is rather worrying. Yesterday an armed clash in Ihusi; today we hear that bombs have fallen on houses in Kalehe. The atmosphere is becoming tense again. No one knows what tomorrow will bring, but around here hope does not die... (message posted on Wednesday, February 12, 2025).
