Sabato 24 febbraio 2024 è stato organizzato, ad Assisi, un convegno sul contributo delle fedi per convertire le armi nucleari in progetti di sviluppo.

Nel suo intervento “Religioni e conversione delle armi nucleari in progetti di pace e sviluppo” il patriarca di Gerusalemme, card. Pierbattista Pizzaballa, ha affermato che “questo incontro su pace e dialogo religioso arriva in un momento molto difficile in Terra Santa: nessuno vuole sentire la parola pace e in pochi ci credono… Quello che viviamo è il momento più difficile degli ultimi decenni. Tra israeliani e palestinesi ci sono questioni rimaste in sospeso che ora sono esplose e serve affrontare i problemi alla radice”.

“La crisi, ha continuato il patriarca, deve essere un’opportunità e un momento di crescita: il dibattito ha puntato molto sulle ferite del passato, un bagaglio che ci portiamo tutti dietro, ma bisogna guardare le ferite del presente e il dialogo interreligioso deve essere capace di costruire prospettive per il futuro”.

Per il patriarca c’è bisogno “di una nuova sintassi del dialogo interreligioso, di rimettere a fuoco temi e rapporto tra politica e religione, il rapporto tra fede, religione e Stato, il rapporto tra religione e terra… bisogna abbattere pregiudizi e stereotipi, un passo necessario per costruire prospettive di pace”.

In Medio Oriente “non si può parlare di pace senza religione, ma finora la visione religiosa non è stata inclusa, si parla solo di territori e spazi, argomenti che non hanno funzionato. È necessario riconnettere la visione religiosa “liberata” dal potere, dai condizionamenti, per illuminare chi decide nella maniera giusta perché, se si costruiscono prospettive di pace in Medio Oriente, verrà contagiato anche il resto del mondo…”.

On Saturday, February 24^th, 2024, a conference on the contribution of religions for the conversion of nuclear weapons into projects of development was organised in Assisi, Italy.

In his speech titled Religions and conversion of nuclear weapons into projects of peace and development, the Patriarch of Jerusalem, Card. Pierbattista Pizzaballa, pointed out that “This meeting on peace and religious dialogue comes at a very difficult time in the Holy Land: no one wants to hear the word peace and few believe in it... This is the most difficult time in decades. There are unresolved issues between Israelis and Palestinians that have now exploded, and we need to address the root of the problems.”

“The crisis – continued the Patriarch – must be an opportunity and a time for growth: so far the debate has focused on the wounds of the past, a baggage we all carry with us, but we must look at the wounds of the present and interreligious dialogue must be able to build prospects for the future.”

According to the Patriarch, there is the need for “a new syntax of inter-religious dialogue; [we need] to refocus on issues and the relationship between politics and religion, the relationship between faith, religion and the State, the relationship between religion and land... we need to break down prejudices and stereotypes – a necessary step to build prospects for peace.”

In the Middle East “one cannot speak of peace without religion, but so far the religious vision has not been included, one only speaks of territories and spaces, arguments that have not worked. It is necessary to reconnect the religious vision “liberated” from power, from conditioning, so as to enlighten those who make decisions in the right way because, if prospects for peace are built in the Middle East, the rest of the world will also be affected...”
