Riproponiamo qui una sintetica cronistoria dei comunicati dei primi 6 giorni del capitolo in particolare per quanti non hanno la possibilità di accedere facilmente al sito della Direzione Generale.

Sabato 1° luglio 2023 i Padri Capitolari hanno vissuto un momento di ritiro animato da p. Philippe Kitenge, Barnabita. Il tema della riflessione è stato sviluppato attorno alla frase paolina “Essere tutto per tutti”. L’Eucarestia è stata presieduta dal Padre Generale, accompagnato dal Consiglio uscente.

Tra i vari messaggi pervenuti ai Padri Capitolari, si fa menzione qui alle parole del nunzio apostolico nella RDC. Il rappresentante pontificio, lodando l’audacia dell’Istituto nella scelta del luogo del Capitolo Generale, ha detto: “Nella RdC avete una storia di santità fino alla testimonianza del martirio e della perseveranza vissuta in mezzo a situazioni avverse e contrarie”.

Nel pomeriggio, il Padre Generale in qualità di presidente del Capitolo, ha dato inizio agli atti preliminari con l’appello dei capitolari e ha dichiarato ufficialmente aperto il XVIII Capitolo Generale. In seguito, sono stati eletti i membri del comitato di coordinamento e anche 3 capitolari che costituiscono il gruppo dei “saggi” il cui compito è quello di fare emergere le questioni ricorrenti ed importanti in vista dell’ordine del giorno definitivo del Capitolo Generale.

Domenica 2 luglio 2023 la giornata comincia con la celebrazione eucaristica animata dalla circoscrizione del Giappone. Nella mattinata si è dato inizio alla “settimana dell’ascolto” delle relazioni di ogni circoscrizione. È il turno delle regioni del Bangladesh, della Cina e del Giappone.

Il pomeriggio vari Padri Capitolari si sono recati in visita alle sorelle Saveriane che celebravano il 2 luglio, la festa del “raccolto”. È stata l’occasione per salutare le 7 giovani, che ieri hanno emesso  I loro primi voti.

Altri Delegati, invece, hanno approfittato del tempo libero per visitare il museo del Kivu, curato dai Saveriani.

Lunedì 3 luglio 2023 è iniziato con la celebrazione Eucaristica animata dalla Regione indonesiana. Si è pregato per il grande paese asiatico, sensibilizzando l’Assemblea su cosa significhi vivere la fede in un contesto di minoranza e in alcuni casi anche di persecuzione.

I lavori sono continuati con l’ascolto delle relazioni. Lunedì è stato il turno dell’Indonesia, delle Filippine e della Tailandia.

Si è passati al continente americano in cui prima i confratelli dell’Amazzonia e poi quelli del Brasile Sud hanno esposto la loro relazione. Colombia e Messico hanno completato il quadro della giornata.

Ogni circoscrizione ha offerto attraverso video o power points un panorama generale: 1) i confratelli che la compongono, 2) le attività che si svolgono, 3) una visione delle nostre opere e presenze e 4) qualche realtà peculiare.

Ogni relazione è stata presentata in risposta alle seguenti domande: 1) da dove veniamo (gli inizi della presenza e gli eventi più importanti nella storia della circoscrizione), 2) dove siamo (la situazione attuale) e 3) verso dove andiamo (linee di azione per il futuro e speranze).

Ogni presentazione è stata seguita da interventi per ulteriori chiarimenti e curiosità che hanno aiutato tutta l’assemblea capitolare a capire meglio il cammino di ogni circoscrizione.

Martedì 04 luglio 2023. La giornata capitolare è cominciata con la messa animata dai confratelli del Bangladesh.

Sono seguite nella mattinata e nel pomeriggio le relazioni delle regioni degli Stati Uniti con la quale abbiamo terminato il continente americano e poi quelle del Burundi, del Camerun - Chad, del  Mozambico, della R.D. del Congo e della Sierra Leone.

Le relazioni delle circoscrizioni dell’Africa sono state oggetto di ascolto della giornata. Un continente dove l’animazione vocazionale occupa uno spazio privilegiato e chiede alla congregazione un impegno particolare per il grande numero di giovani che vogliono donarsi alla vita missionaria.

Mercoledì 05 luglio 2023. Incoraggiati dal messaggio di papa Francesco,  la giornata capitolare, che era iniziata con la celebrazione eucaristica animata dai confratelli del Burundi, è proseguita con l’ascolto delle relazioni del Continente Europeo: prima la Spagna, patria di San Francesco Saverio, poi l’Italia dove è nata la famiglia Saveriana e infine il Regno Unito hanno reso partecipe il Capitolo del loro cammino: 1) le origini dell’attività missionaria, 2) il cammino attuale e 3) le sfide guardando al futuro. Sicuramente degna di nota è la nuova apertura della comunità di Fnideq in Marocco in un contesto completamente non cristiano.  Con la relazione della Delegazione Centrale composta attualmente da 3 comunità (le 2 di Roma e quella di Parigi) si sono concluse le presentazioni delle varie Circoscrizioni. Nell’ultima parte della giornata la Direzione Generale ha iniziato la presentazione della sua relazione che occuperà il nostro tempo nelle prossime sessioni e con la quale si concluderà la prima parte del Capitolo Generale che abbiamo denominato “dell’ascolto”.

Giovedì 06 luglio 2023 è iniziato con  l’Eucaristia animata dalla regione della RD del Congo. L’assemblea è stata invitata ad una lettura di fede della nostra vita e a pensare  alla testimonianza dei nostri  martiri.  Sono state ricordate le parole di Fratel Vittorio Faccin, il quale non essendo presbitero, partecipava all’Eucaristia chiedendo al Signore che la sua vita diventasse “Eucaristia”.

All’inizio della giornata è stato letto il messaggio del vescovo di Parma, Enrico Solmi.

Il V successore di Mons. Guido Maria Conforti, come lui stesso si definisce - mostrando tutto il suo affetto per la nostra famiglia missionaria - si chiedeva  cosa avrebbe fatto oggi il fondatore nel nostro contesto europeo, sempre più interculturale e proponeva alla nostra congregazione di accogliere  “il progetto di una zona pastorale a noi affidata, contrassegnata da un particolare spirito missionario, luogo di incontro di tanti fratelli e sorelle che arrivano a Parma da quelli che si chiamavano “nazioni di missione”, e di sostenere per loro una pastorale idonea”.

La DG ha poi continuato con la presentazione della propria relazione cha ha occupato tutta la nostra giornata. Con questa sesta giornata di capitolo si è quasi conclusa la fase  dell’ “ascolto”.

Saturday, July 1^st, 2023. The chapter delegated had a moment of spiritual retreat led by Fr. Philippe Kitenge, Barnabite. The theme around which the reflection unfolded was Paul’s sentence “to be all things for all people”. The Eucharistic celebration was presided over by Father General and the outgoing Council.

Several messages were sent to the chapter Fathers, in particular here we mention the words of the one sent by the Apostolic Nuncio in the DRC. The pope’s representative, while praising the institute’s bold choice of venue for the General Chapter, expressed: In the DRC you have a history of holiness, radically lived to the point of martyrdom and perseverance even in the most adverse and hostile conditions.

In the afternoon, Father General, as president of the Chapter, began the preliminary acts with the roll-call of the capitulars and declared the XVIII General Chapter officially open. Subsequently, the members of the coordination committee were elected and also three capitulars who will constitute the group of “wise men” whose task is to collect recurring and important questions in view of drafting the definitive agenda of the General Chapter.

Sunday, July 2^nd, 2023. The day began with a Eucharistic celebration led by the circumscription of Japan. In the morning the Week of listening to the circumscriptions’ report began. It was the turn of the region of Bangladesh, China and Japan. In the afternoon various Chapter Fathers paid a visit to the Xaverian sisters who were celebrating July 2^nd, the so-called “Feast of the harvest.” During the visit there was the chance to greet the seven young women who made their first profession on the previous day. Instead, other delegates took advantage of the free time to visit the museum of Kivu which is curated by the Xaverians.

Monday, July 3^rd, 2023. The day began with a Eucharistic celebration led by the Region of Indonesia. The prayer for this great Asian country was a chance that made the Assembly aware of what living the faith entails for a minority group in a context, at times, of persecution.

The day continued with the reports. It was the turn of Indonesia, the Philippines, and Thailand.

Then, we moved on to the American continent where first the confreres from Amazonia and then those from South Brazil presented their report. Colombia and Mexico completed the work of the day.

By means of videos and Power Points, each report provided a general view of its circumscription: 1) confreres in the circumscription, 2) activities they carry out, 3) a vision of our works and forms of presence and 4) some peculiar aspects.

All reports were drafted in answer to the following questions: 1) where do we come from? (the beginnings and important events in the history of the circumscription), 2) Where are we? (the present situation) and 3) Where are we heading to? (guidelines for future actions and hopes).

Every report was followed by questions and requests for clarifications which helped the entire Chapter assembly to understand better the journey of each Circumscription.

Tuesday, July 4^th, 2023. The day began with a Eucharistic celebration led by the confreres from Bangladesh.

In the morning and afternoon, the report of the United States brought to an end those from the American continent, then were presented those of Burundi, Cameroon-Chad, Mozambique, D.R. Congo and Sierra Leone.

The day centred on the reports from the African circumscriptions. This is a continent that focuses on vocation promotions, which requires the congregation to exert a particular effort since there is a large number of young people that want to consecrate themselves to missionary life.

Wednesday, July 5^th, 2023. Encouraged by the message of pope Francis, the day began with a Eucharistic celebration led by the confreres from Burundi and continued with the hearing of reports from the European Continent: firstly, Spain, the motherland of St Francis Xavier, then Italy, where our Xaverian family was born, and finally the United Kingdom shared with the Chapter their journey: 1) the origins of the local missionary activities, 2) the present journey and 3) challenges that emerge when looking at the future. Particularly noteworthy is the new opening of a community in Fnideq, Morocco, in a completely non-Christian milieu. The report by the Central Delegation, presently made up of three communities (two in Rome and one in Paris), ended the presentation of all Circumscription’s reports. In the remaining part of the day, the General Direction began delivering its report which is going to occupy our time in the next sessions and will conclude the first part of the General Chapter – the one we called “listening”.

Thursday, July 6^th, 2023. The day began with a Eucharistic celebration led by the region of D.R. of the Congo. The assembly was invited to interpret one’s own life through faith and think about the witness of our martyrs. We mentioned the words of Brother Vittorio Faccin: he, who was not a priest, would partake in the Eucharist while asking the Lord that his own life could become “Eucharist.”

At the beginning of the day, a message from the Bishop of Parma, Enrico Solmi, was read to the assembly.

The fifth successor of Msgr. Guido Maria Conforti, as he styles himself – thereby demonstrating all his affection for our missionary family -, wondered what the founder would do today, in our increasingly intercultural European context. He proposed to our congregation to consider favourably “the project of a pastoral area entrusted to you, an area marked by a particular missionary spirit, venue of meetings among many brothers and sisters that arrive in Parma from those places which were once called ‘mission countries’, and to support these people with an appropriate pastoral ministry.”

Then, the GD continued presenting its own report, which occupied the entire day. With the sixth day of Chapter, the phase of “listening” was almost coming to an end.

Today, Friday, July 7^th, 2023, the GD will complete its presentation.
