DELEGAZIONE CINESE: UN GRAZIE AD UN MISSIONARIO, AMICO E BENEFATTORE

Alle 7.59 di giovedì 29 dicembre 2022, + Giuseppe Ti Kang, arcivescovo emerito di Taipei, ci ha lasciato. Nato il 7 maggio del 1928, aveva 94 anni. Noi abbiamo tanti debiti verso di lui, nostro grande amico e benefattore. Nato nello Henan, da piccolo aveva conosciuto i Saveriani (aveva fatto il chierichetto a p. Ermanno Zulian sx). Accolto insieme alla mamma, profughi, dai Padri Verbiti, ha maturato con loro la sua vocazione. Aveva il dono delle lingue e parlava molto bene italiano, tedesco, inglese…
Al nostro secondo arrivo (1990 - ) sull’ isola, + Ti Kang era arcivescovo di Taipei dal 1989. Quando gli abbiamo chiesto se ci voleva accogliere in diocesi e affidarci una parrocchia, immediatamente ci ha offerto la parrocchia di San Francesco Saverio e l’ostello-casa costruito al primo periodo dei Saveriani (Enrico Frassineti, Ercole Marcelli, Ermanno Zulian, Umberto Bresciani e Arnaldo De Vidi) a Taipei (1967-1971) dove oggi abitiamo, ricordandoci che “voi l’avete costruita e donata alla diocesi”.
In occasione della festa patronale della parrocchia, il 3 dicembre, il vescovo Ti Kang non mancava mai di partecipare. Colpiva la sua umiltà, la sua concretezza (arrivava sempre con i doni per Natale) e il suo senso di servizio nelle cose più ordinarie (aiutava a sparecchiare la tavola).
Ha sempre avuto verso di noi un grande affetto di padre, e tanta fiducia, sostenendoci in ogni modo. Il Signore lo accolga in Paradiso. (I confratelli)

CHINESE DELEGATION: THANKS TO A MISSIONARY, FRIEND, AND BENEFACTOR
Today, Thursday, December 29th, 2022, at 7.59 AM, Msgr. Joseph Ti Kang, archbishop emeritus of Taipei, left us. Born on May 7th , 1928, he was 94-year-old. We owe a lot to him, a great friend and benefactor. Born in Henan, he met the Xaverians during his childhood (he had been an altar boy of Fr. Ermanno Zulian s.x.). As a refugee, he was welcomed, together with his mother, by the Verbite Fathers, with whom he would then mature his vocation. He had the gift of languages and spoke Italian, German, English very well…
Upon our second arrival (1990) to the island, + Ti Kang had been Archbishop of Taipei since 1989. When we asked him if he would have welcomed us into the diocese and entrust a parish to us, he immediately offered us the parish of San Francis Xavier and the youth-hostel that had been built on the first period of Xaverian presence (Enrico Frassineti, Ercole Marcelli, Ermanno Zulian, Umberto Bresciani and Arnaldo De Vidi) in Taipei (1967-1971), which is where we live today. He gave it to us, while recalling that “you built it and donated it to the diocese in the first place.”
Bishop Ti Kang never failed to participate in the celebration of the parish’s patron saint on December 3rd. People were struck by his humbleness, down-to-earth attitude (he would arrive with Christmas gifts) and spirit of service even in the most ordinary aspects of life (he used to help clean up tables after lunch).
He always had a great fatherly affection towards us, and a lot of trust, supporting us in every way. May the Lord welcome him in Heaven. (The Confreres)
