San Giovanni Paolo II, nella sua enciclica Redemptoris missio (la più recente enciclica sulla missione della Chiesa) scrive: “Il dialogo interreligioso fa parte della missione evangelizzatrice della Chiesa” (n. 55). Il 22 ottobre, Giornata missionaria mondiale, Shinmeizan ha guidato il ‘Gruppo di dialogo interreligioso di Kumamoto’, fondato nel 1992, nella sua 98ma iniziativa di incontri interreligiosi.  Questa volta abbiamo visitato la sede in Kumamoto della ‘nuova religione’  TENRIKYO (“La religione della dottrina del Cielo”). Tenrikyo è la più antica delle numerose cosiddette nuove religioni del Giappone. Nata nel 1838, conta circa tre milioni di fedeli e ha la sua sede centrale nella Città di Tenri, vicino a Osaka. Qui, tra altre imponenti opere, gestisce una università e una prestigiosa biblioteca che custodisce alcuni tra i più importanti documenti della storia cristiana in Giappone. Delle ‘nuove religioni’ del Giappone, Tenrikyo, con la Risshokoseikai, è tra le più aperte e impegnate nel dialogo interreligioso, specialmente con la Chiesa Cattolica, e partecipa regolarmente, per esempio, agli incontri annuali  organizzati dalla Comunità di Sant’ Egidio in Europa, coinvolgendo le sue comunità di Roma e Parigi e inviando partecipanti dal Giappone. Questi nostri incontri sono sempre occasione di uno scambio di presentazione vicendevole delle rispettive tradizioni religiose, e, quindi, da parte cristiana, occasione di un esplicito annuncio della ‘bella notizia’, il Vangelo di Gesù, il Cristo. In his Encyclical Redemptoris Missio (the most recent encyclical on the Church’s mission), St John Paul II writes: “Inter-religious dialogue is a part of the Church's evangelizing mission.” (n. 55) On October 22^nd, World Mission Day, Shinmeizan led the ‘Group for Inter-religious Dialogue of Kumamoto’, which was founded in 1992, to its 98^th edition of inter-religious meetings. On this occasion, we visited the Kumamoto headquarter of the ‘new religion’ Tenrikyo (“Religion of the Heavenly Doctrine”). Tenrikyo is the most ancient among the numerous so-called new religions of Japan. Founded in 1838, at present it has about three million believers. Its main headquarter is in the City of Tenri, near Osaka. There, apart from many other huge projects, it also runs a university and a prestigious library that holds some of the most important documents of Christian history in Japan. Among the ‘new religions’ of Japan, Tenrikyo, together with Risshokoseikai, is one of the most open and committed to inter-religious dialogue, especially dialogue with the Catholic Church; for instance, it regularly takes part in the yearly meetings organised by Comunità di Sant’Egidio in Europe, for which it engages its communities in Rome and Paris, while also sending participants from Japan. These meetings of ours are always an opportunity for mutual exchange of the respective religious traditions, and, therefore, on the Christian side, an opportunity for an explicit proclamation of the ‘good news’ that is the Gospel of Jesus, the Christ.
