La prima sessione del Sinodo sulla sinodalità, che si è appena conclusa (4-29 ottobre 2023) aveva tra le parole chiave "missione".

Nella “Relazione di sintesi” finale alla missionarietà della Chiesa è dedicato il paragrafo 8 (“La Chiesa è missione”) che è collocato all’interno della Parte seconda del documento con il significativo titolo “Tutti discepoli, tutti missionari”.

Mentre si raccomanda la lettura del testo integrale della Relazione, si possono qui riprendere alcune affermazioni significative tra le 71 ricorrenze del termine missione: 1) “I sacramenti dell’iniziazione cristiana conferiscono a tutti i discepoli di Gesù la responsabilità della missione della Chiesa. Laici e laiche, consacrate e consacrati, e ministri ordinati hanno pari dignità”. 2) “La pratica della missione ad gentes realizza un arricchimento reciproco delle Chiese, perché non coinvolge solo i missionari, ma l’intera comunità, che viene stimolata alla preghiera, alla condivisione dei beni e alla testimonianza”. 3) “Tutti i missionari – laici e laiche, consacrate e consacrati, diaconi e presbiteri, in particolare i membri di istituti missionari e i missionari fidei donum – in forza della loro vocazione propria, sono una risorsa importante per creare legami di conoscenza e scambio di doni”.

Aggiungiamo qui sotto il link al testo della Relazione di Sintesi, pubblicata a conclusione della XVI Assemblea Generale sulla sinodalità. Ci viene consegnato la visione di una “Chiesa più sinodale e più missionaria, che adora Dio e serve le donne e gli uomini del nostro tempo, uscendo a portare a tutti la consolante gioia del Vangelo”, come detto da papa Francesco nella messa a conclusione dei lavori.

La Relazione di Sintesi  -  strutturata in tre parti:   1) il volto della Chiesa sinodale,  2) tutti discepoli, tutti missionari e 3) tessere legami, costruire comunità - “non è in alcun modo, ha ribadito il papa, un documento finale, ma uno strumento al servizio del discernimento che dovrà ancora continuare in vista della seconda sessione del 2024.” Essa raccoglie le convergenze, le questioni da affrontare e le proposte emerse dal dialogo.

“Mission” was among the keywords of the first session of the Synod on synodality, which has just come to an end (4-29 October 2023).

The final Synthesis Report dedicates paragraph n. 8 to discuss the missionary nature of the Church (“Church is Mission”); this paragraph is placed within the Second Part of the document that has the meaningful title “All Disciples, All Missionaries.”

While recommending a personal reading of the entire text, here are some significant statements from among the 71 mentions of the term mission: 1) “The sacraments of Christian initiation confer on all the disciples of Jesus the responsibility for the mission of the Church. Laymen and laywomen, those in consecrated life, and ordained ministers have equal dignity.” 2) “The mission ad gentes is mutually enriching for the Churches, because it not only involves the missionaries themselves but the entire community, which in this way is inspired to prayer, the sharing of goods, and witness.” 3) “All the missionaries -- laymen and women, those in consecrated life, deacons and priests, and particularly the members of missionary institutes and fidei donum missionaries -- are an important resource for creating bonds of knowledge and exchange of gifts.” (Franco Ferrari, editorial committee of our magazine Missione Oggi)

For the benefit of the reader, below we add a link to the text of the Synthesi Report which was published at the end of the XVI General Assembly of the Synod. The Synod entrusts us with the vision of a “more synodal and more missionary Church; a Church that worships God and serves the women and men of our times, by going out to bring the consoling joy of the Gospel to all,” as Pope Francis said during the Mass celebrated at the end of the synod.

The Synthesis Report, which is divided into three parts – 1) The Face of the Synodal Church; 2) All Disciples, All Missionaries; and 3) Weaving Bonds, Building Communities  –, “is by no means a finald document”, the Pope reiterated, “but a tool at the service of discernment, that shall continue in view of the second session in 2024.” The Synthesis Report gathers points of agreement, issues that must be dealt with and proposals that emerged from the dialogue.
