Commemorando la nascita al cielo del nostro Padre e Fondatore raccogliamo l'invito, rivoltoci più volte, a fissare lo sguardo all’orizzonte soprannaturale, a cercare le “cose dell’alto”:

“Non dobbiamo mai dimenticare il Paradiso. Ci pensiamo troppo poco... Il passare del tempo e della vita contiene la certezza di un bene maggiore per il quale il Signore ci ha creati e destinati... Che bello pensare all’eterno! Com’è consolante ed incoraggiante! Anche la terra diviene più bella quando si guarda al Cielo”.

P. Giacomo sottolineava l’importanza di prepararsi alla morte, ci diceva che questa “avrà le caratteristiche della nostra vita”.

Quando gli fu comunicata la gravità del male, incurabile, da parte di Mons. Giovanni Gazza e P. Amato Dagnino,  P. Giacomo con serena calma, ringraziò e disse semplicemente: «Il Signore ha dato, il Signore ha tolto. Sia benedetto il nome del Signore!».

Mons. Gazza, rievocando, anni dopo, quell’episodio, commentava: “Queste sono cose meravigliose. L’uomo che sempre si è affidato completamente alle mani di Dio, a Dio rimette tutto se stesso”. (Fernanda Tettamanzi mmx)

As we commemorate the passing of our Father and Founder into heaven, we receive the invitation he has repeatedly extended to us to fix our gaze on the supernatural horizon, to seek the ‘things above’:

“We must never forget Paradise. We think of it far too little... The passing of time and of life holds the certainty of a greater good for which the Lord has created and destined us... How wonderful it is to think of eternity! How comforting and encouraging it is! Even the earth becomes more beautiful when we look to Heaven”.

Fr Giacomo emphasised the importance of preparing for death; he told us that it “will bear the characteristics of our life”.

When Monsignor Giovanni Gazza and Fr Amato Dagnino informed him of the seriousness of his incurable illness, Fr Giacomo, with serene calm, gave thanks and simply said: “The Lord has given, the Lord has taken away. Blessed be the name of the Lord!”.

Bishop Gazza, recalling that episode years later, commented: “These are marvellous things. The man who has always entrusted himself completely to God’s hands entrusts his whole self to God”. (Fernanda Tettamanzi mmx)
