Riportiamo qui alcuni stralci dell’intervento di papa Francesco fatto mercoledì 25 ottobre 2023 in lingua spagnola durante la XVIII Congregazione Generale del Sinodo:

Mi piace pensare alla Chiesa come popolo fedele di Dio, santo e peccatore, un popolo convocato e chiamato con la forza delle Beatitudini e del capitolo 25 del Vangelo di S. Matteo.

Gesù, per la sua Chiesa, non ha assunto nessuno degli schemi politici del suo tempo: né farisei, né sadducei, né esseni, né zeloti. Nessuna “società chiusa”; riprende semplicemente la tradizione di Israele: “voi sarete il mio popolo e io sarò il vostro Dio”.

Una delle caratteristiche di questo popolo fedele è la sua infallibilità; sì, è infallibile “in credendo”. (In credendo falli nequit, dice Lumen Gentium 12) “Infabilitas in credendo”. E lo spiego così: “quando volete sapere cosa crede la Santa Madre Chiesa, andate al Magistero, perché esso ha il compito di insegnarvelo, ma quando volete sapere come crede la Chiesa, andate dal popolo fedele.

Il clericalismo è una frusta, è un flagello, è una forma di mondanità che sporca e danneggia il volto della sposa del Signore; schiavizza il popolo santo e fedele di Dio.

E il popolo di Dio, il fedele popolo santo di Dio, va avanti con pazienza e umiltà, sopportando il disprezzo, i maltrattamenti e l’emarginazione da parte del clericalismo istituzionalizzato. E con quanta naturalezza parliamo dei prìncipi della Chiesa, o delle promozioni episcopali come di avanzamenti di carriera! Gli orrori del mondo, la mondanità che maltratta il santo popolo fedele di Dio.

We report here some excerpts from the speech in Spanish that Pope Francis delivered on Wednesday, October 25^th, 2023, during the XVIII General Congregation of the Synod:

I like to think of the Church as a faithful people of God, holy and sinner, a people summoned and called with the power of the Beatitudes and of chapter 25 of the Gospel according to St. Matthew.

For his Church, Jesus did not adopt any of the political schemes of his time: neither Pharisees, nor Sadducees, nor Essenes, nor Zealots. No “closed society”; He simply drew upon the tradition of Israel: “you will be my people and I will be your God.”

One of the characteristics of this faithful people is their infallibility; yes, they are infallible “in credendo” (“In credendo falli nequit”, reads Lumen Gentium 12). “Infabilitas in credendo.” And I explain it in this manner: “when you want to know what Holy Mother Church believes, go to the Magisterium, because it has the task of teaching it to you, but when you want to know how the Church believes, go to the faithful people.”

Clericalism is a whip, it is a scourge, it is a form of worldliness that soils and damages the face of the bride of the Lord; it enslaves God’s holy and faithful people.

 And the people of God, the faithful holy people of God, move forward with patience and humility, enduring contempt, mistreatment and marginalization at the hands of institutionalized clericalism. And how naturally we speak of “the princes of the Church,” or of episcopal promotions as of career advancement!
