Dall’omelia di P. Luigi Menegazzo durante la messa finale del Convegno dei formatori in Asia -
SALUTO CONCLUSIVO
Introduzione
Il Convegno ha avuto un buon esito: questo va detto e riconosciuto con gratitudine. Non si è perso tempo, si è avuto coraggio di affrontare i problemi legati alla Formazione in Asia, abbiamo ringraziato il Signore per il dono delle Vocazioni e ci siamo donati reciprocamente energia e ottimismo per continuare nell’impegno della Formazione di nuovi Saveriani.
Sia ringraziato il Signore.
GUARDANDO ALLA FORMAZIONE IN ASIA.
Il Convegno ha posto in luce alcune importanti realtà.
L’Asia è terra di Vocazioni
Il vortice della modernità, della globalizzazione, del mondo dei Social Media, non toglie a questo Continente quel profondo e tipico tratto tutto suo: la capacità di relazionarsi con Dio, pur nel frastuono ideologico, morale ed etico delle immense metropoli dove noi Saveriani abbiamo i Centri di formazione. Nelle nostre comunità ci sono sempre candidati alla vita saveriana. Sembra quasi un miracolo, e vogliamo esserne sempre degni! In questo Continente, che ha visto i Saveriani impegnati ininterrottamente fin dall’invio in Cina, da parte del Fondatore, di p. C. Rastelli e del Diac. Manini, e in queste caotiche metropoli vogliamo continuare ad operare con il Signore e formare nuovi operai per la sua Vigna.
L’Asia è esigente
In questo Continente sono sorte - e continuano a vivere – le grandi tradizioni religiose della storia di tanti popoli. Le lingue, le tradizioni culturali, le consuetudini etiche e morali, le stratificazioni sociali, impongono al missionario una attenzione e studio particolari. Richiedono specialmente una sensibilità umana, spirituale e culturale raffinata. Non consigliabile l’adagiarsi nella mediocrità e genericità. L’esigenza che l’Asia ci chiede, non sia sentita come un peso, ma come una opportunità provvidenziale, perché ci costringe ad essere formatori ben preparati. Approfittiamone individualmente e comunitariamente, dato che la Formazione non è solo compito del Formatore, ma della intera Circoscrizione.
Accogliamo volentieri le esigenze che l’Asia pone davanti a noi e formiamo Saveriani pronti per ogni tipo di necessità e sfida missionaria.
L’Asia è terra fertile per il Vangelo
Le statistiche non ci spaventano e non intaccano la nostra speranza. Lo sappiamo che in Asia la percentuale dei Cristiani è minima. Ma più ancora conosciamo la forza impressionante dei martiri asiatici e sappiamo per esperienza che in Asia Cristo è necessario, Cristo è atteso, Cristo è seguito. L’Asia è terra di Annuncio del Vangelo e la Formazione di missionari, di conseguenza, è opera fondamentale ed eccellentemente missionaria. La Formazione di nuovi Saveriani asiatici è necessaria e ci fa onore!
LA FORMAZIONE SAVERIANA
Dal Convegno, con apertura di cuore e mente, abbiamo imparato che:
Il Formatore deve essere spiritualmente sereno
Siamo guide nella misura in cui siamo ascoltatori di Cristo. Ispiriamo fiducia nella misura in cui poniamo in Cristo tutta la nostra fiducia. Formiamo nella misura in cui Cristo prende possesso della nostra vita.
In Asia un maestro privo della somiglianza con Dio non trasforma e non forma!
Guido M. Conforti, discepolo ben identificato con Cristo (Mi guardava - il Crocifisso - e mi diceva tante cose) sarebbe stato un perfetto formatore in Asia.
Il Formatore deve essere umanamente armonico
Un carattere equilibrato, una vita onesta e nobile per i valori che la sostengono, un atteggiamento accogliente e dialogico, sono la vera carta di identità del Formatore. Aiutiamoci l’un l’atro per crescere umanamente. Nel Fondatore abbiamo un esempio di elevata nobiltà d’animo e di carattere armonico.
Il Formatore ama indivisibilmente la sua Famiglia
Un cuore indiviso, ben orientato, attento alla vita della propria Famiglia, dona sicurezza e favorisce la comunione. Come sono preziosi in Asia i Formatori che dimostrano con l’esempio e insegnano con la parola che la Famiglia Consacrata è vera famiglia, come è più della famiglia naturale, che essa è luce per il mondo e che il suo centro non è un bene che passa, ma un bene eterno.
La nostra Famiglia Saveriana ha ricevuto dal Fondatore la missione di fare del mondo una sola Famiglia nel nome di Cristo. Missione grande e stupenda.
Conclusione
Grazie a tutti voi per la buona riuscita del Convegno. È stato ben preparato e ben condotto, con l’entusiasmo di tutti. Torniamo al nostro lavoro con determinazione e con obiettivi chiari. Facciamo nostre le parole di Paolo: Tutto io faccio per il Vangelo (1Cor 9,23).
Le debolezze nostre e altrui non ci impediscano la gioia della missione affidataci dalla Congregazione: formare missionari saveriani in Asia.

FINAL GREETING
Introduction
It must be said and acknowledged with gratitude that this Meeting had a positive outcome. We did not waste any time, we had the courage to deal with problems connected with Formation in Asia, we thanked the Lord for the gift of Vocations and we gave each other energy and optimism to continue with the Formation of new Xaverians.
Let us thank the Lord for these blessings.
LOOKING AT FORMATION IN ASIA.
The Meeting highlighted some important realities.
Asia is a land of Vocations
The whirlwind of modernity, globalization and the Social Media in no way eliminates the profound characteristic that is typical of this Continent: the ability to relate to God even in the ideological, moral and ethical frenzy of the huge cities in which we Xaverians have our Centers of formation. Our communities continue to welcome candidates to the Xaverian life; it seems almost a miracle and we want to be always worthy of it! The Xaverians have been working uninterruptedly on this Continent since the Founder sent Fr. C Rastelli and Deacon Manini to China, and we want to continue working with the Lord in these chaotic cities to form new laborers for his Vineyard.
Asia is demanding
This Continent has seen the birth of great religious traditions of many peoples and they continue to flourish today. The languages, cultural traditions, ethical and moral customs and social stratifications, oblige the missionary to acquire a special sensitivity and study. In a particular way they call for a refined human, spiritual and cultural sensitivity. We cannot afford to surrender to mediocrity and a general approach to reality. We must not look upon the demands made of us by Asia as a burden, but as a providential opportunity because it compels us to be well-prepared formators. Let us take advantage of this opportunity, both as individuals and communities, since Formation is not just the task of the Formator, but of the entire Circumscription.
Let us willingly embrace the demands that Asia places before us and let us form Xaverians who are ready for every kind of necessity and missionary challenge.
Asia is a fertile land for the Gospel
The statistics do not scare us, nor do they undermine our hope. We know that the percentage of Christians in Asia is minimal. We know even more, however, of the astonishing strength of the Asian martyrs and we know from experience that Christ is needed, Christ is awaited and Christ is followed in Asia. Asia is a land of Proclamation of the Gospel and the Formation of missionaries and, consequently, it is a fundamental and outstanding missionary work. The Formation of new Asian Xaverians is a necessary and honorable task for us!
XAVERIAN FORMATION
With an open heart and mind, we learned from the Meeting that:
The Formator must be spiritually serene
We are guides to the extent that we are listeners of Christ. We inspire trust to the extent that we place all our own trust in Christ. We form others to the extent in which we allow Christ to take possession of our lives.
In Asia a master who is without a likeness to God neither transforms nor forms others!
St. Guido M. Conforti, a disciple who was profoundly identified with Christ (He looked at me – the Crucifix - and he said many things to me), would have been a perfect formator in Asia.
The Formator must be well-balanced
A balanced personality, an honest and noble life thanks to the values that sustain it, and a welcoming and dialogical attitude, are the true identity card of the Formator. Let us help each other to grow in humanity. In the Founder we have a model of great nobility of heart and a harmonious personality.
The Founder loves his Family with an undivided heart
An undivided and well-oriented heart, that is sensitive to the life of its Family, gives security and promotes communion. How precious in Asia are the Formators who show by their example, and teach by their words, that the Consecrated family is a true family, just as, and even more than, the natural family, and that it is light for the world, centered not on a short-lived treasure, but on a treasure that endures forever.
Our Xaverian Family has received from the Founder the mission to make of the world a single family in the name of Christ. This is a great and wonderful mission.
Conclusion
Thanks to all of you for the positive outcome of this Meeting. It was well prepared and well directed, with the enthusiastic participation of everyone. We return to our work with determination and clear goals. Let us make our own these words of Paul: I do everything for the sake of the Gospel (1Cor 9:23).
May our weaknesses, and the weaknesses of the others, never prevent us from experiencing the joy of the mission entrusted to us by the Congregation: to form Xaverian missionaries.
Thanks to the Regional Superior, Fr. Anton Wahyudiyanto, and to the confreres of the Community of the pre-Novitiate and Novitiate.
Let us help and pray for each other.
