Alla "tre serate di formazione" della diocesi di Parma, con il titolo “La speranza non delude” (3-5 giugno), alla quale hanno partecipato quasi 300 agenti pastorali, don Maurizio Patriciello, noto parroco di Caivano (Sud Italia, diocesi di Aversa), impegnato nella lotta per la tutela del territorio inquinato dalle discariche industriali inquinanti e radioattive (la cosiddetta “Terra dei Fuochi”) e nella battaglia contro la camorra, ha raccontato qualche aneddoto del suo servizio pastorale. In mattinata aveva anche visitato la tomba di Mons. Giovanni Gazza al cimitero della Villetta (Parma): Saveriano, vescovo di Abaeté do Tocantins, Brasile nord, Superiore Generale del nostro Istituto (1966-1977), e Vescovo di Aversa per 12 anni, in provincia di Caserta (1980-1992), una diocesi dove “le udienze quotidiane, i contatti personali con i sacerdoti ed i fedeli sono ininterrotti. Il Vescovo, praticamente, non stacca mai”. 

Don Patriciello ha ricordato la figura e la testimonianza di Mons. Gazza, come un pastore immedesimato nel cammino della gente, una realtà che non conosceva bene, perché aveva vissuto tutta la sua vita altrove come missionario, ma che ha tanto amato Aversa. Eppure, un missionario Saveriano molto stimato ad Aversa, e “non vedo l’ora che le sue spoglie mortali siano trasferite nel duomo di San Paolo ad Aversa, dove sarà ricordato come vescovo amico della gente, dei suoi sacerdoti, e dei suoi collaboratori pastorali”.  (Alfredo Turco sx)

The annual 3-evening formation conference of the diocese of Parma, entitled “Hope does not disappoint” (3-5 June), was attended by almost 300 pastoral workers, where Rev. Maurizio Patriciello, a well-known parish priest of Caivano (Southern Italy, Diocese of Aversa), involved in the fight to protect the territory polluted by radioactive industrial waste (the so-called “Land of Fires”) and in the battle against the Camorra, told some anecdotes of his pastoral experience. In the morning, he also visited the tomb of Monsignor Giovanni Gazza at the Villetta cemetery (Parma): a Xaverian, Bishop of Abaeté do Tocantins, northern Brazil, Superior General of our Congregation (1966-1977), and bishop of Aversa for 12 years, in the province of Caserta (1980-1992), a diocese where “the daily audiences, personal contact with the priests and the faithful are uninterrupted. The bishop, practically, never sleeps”.

Don Patriciello recalled the witness of Monsignor Gazza, as a pastor who identified with the journey of the people, a reality he did not know well, because his entire life was lived elsewhere as a missionary, but who loved Aversa so much. A highly esteemed Xaverian missionary bishop of Aversa, Rev. Patriciello adds: "I can't wait the day to see his mortal remains in the cathedral of St. Paul at Aversa, where he will be remembered as a bishop who was a friend of the people, of his priests, and of his pastoral collaborators".
