“UN DIALOGO ON LINE” CON UN MISSIONARIO IN GIAPPONE: “vorrei poter rifare lo stesso cammino ma con molta più attenzione alle persone che lungo esso ho incontrato”

Il mio ultimo libro pubblicato è ambientato in Giappone e, poiché credo che ogni autore debba essere prima di tutto un curioso, ho sentito il bisogno di approfondire ciò che già conoscevo sul popolo giapponese, sulla sua storia e sulla sua spiritualità.
Parlando del mio libro con un amico bergamasco, io, calabrese di Catanzaro ma da anni residente nella bergamasca, ho fatto una scoperta inaspettata. Quasi per caso – o forse per uno di quegli incontri misteriosi che la vita sa offrire – ho saputo che un suo parente, P. Giuseppe Piatti, anch’egli bergamasco, è missionario saveriano da molti anni proprio in Giappone.
Spinto dalla curiosità, ho iniziato a cercare notizie su di lui e, quasi per naturale conseguenza, mi sono imbattuto nella figura di P. Franco Sottocornola. Dopo aver trovato i suoi contatti, gli ho scritto e, con mia grande sorpresa, ho ricevuto una risposta immediata….
P. Franco Sottocornola si racconta:
Padre Franco, se potesse tornare indietro e incontrare il giovane Franco che stava per intraprendere la strada della missione, cosa gli direbbe oggi?
Che bella domanda che mi fa, carissimo Sig. Romano! Ma…non c’è la “marcia indietro” sulla vettura che ci trasporta in questa vita! È invece necessario guardare avanti. Perché il nostro cammino va verso il futuro! Accettando comunque la sua amabile provocazione, ecco, vorrei poter rifare lo stesso cammino ma con molta più attenzione alle persone che lungo esso ho incontrato. Troppo tardi mi sono reso conto che ogni persona che incontri è messa da Dio sul tuo cammino come messaggera di Lui, e che Dio ti chiede di amarla perché Lui ti ama!

AN ONLINE DIALOGUE WITH A MISSIONARY IN JAPAN: “but I would like to pay much closer attention to the people I met along the way”.

One of its journalists, Romano Scaramuzzino, was born in Calabria (South Italy) but has been living in the northern province of Bergamo for various years. He is fond of writing and martial arts.
At the beginning of his article, this journalist writes:
The last book I published is set in Japan and – since I believe every author must be above all a curious guy – I felt the need to further expand my knowledge of the Japanese people, of its history and spirituality. While I was talking about my book with a Bergamasco friend, I, a Calabrese from Catanzaro who has been residing in the Bergamo area for years, made an unexpected discovery. Almost by chance – or perhaps because of one of those mysterious encounters which life knows how to provide you with – have come to know about one of his relatives, Fr. Giuseppe Piatti, also a Bergamasco, who is a Xaverian missionary and has been in Japan for many years. Driven by curiosity, I began looking for information about him and, almost as a natural consequence, I came across the figure of Fr. Franco Sottocornola. After finding his contact details, I wrote to him and, to my great surprise, received a reply straight away…
Fr. Franco Sottocornola talks about himself:
Fr. Franco, if you could go back in time and meet the young Franco who was about to embark on his missionary journey, what would you tell him today?
What a beautiful question you ask, dear Mr. Romano! however, … there is no ‘reverse gear’ on the car that carries us through this life! In fact, it is necessary to look ahead, because our journey takes us to the future! Nonetheless, I accept your friendly challenge, and say that I would like to retrace the same route, but I would like to pay much closer attention to the people I met along the way. It was too late when I realised that every person you meet is placed in your path by God as His messenger, and that God asks you to love them because He loves you!
