DAL 18 AL 25 GENNAIO 2026: LA SETTIMANA DI PREGHIERA PER L’UNITÀ DEI CRISTIANI

Il Dicastero per la Promozione dell’Unità dei Cristiani e la Commissione Fede e Costituzione del Consiglio Ecumenico delle Chiese hanno preparato per la Settimana di Preghiera per l’Unità dei Cristiani 2026 un sussidio dal titolo: “Uno solo è il corpo, uno solo è lo Spirito come una sola è la speranza alla quale Dio vi ha chiamati” (Efesini 4, 4). Il sussidio quest’anno presenta la prospettiva teologica della Chiesa Apostolica Armena, riconosciuta come una delle più antiche comunità cristiane al mondo.
La data tradizionale per la celebrazione della Settimana di preghiera per l’unità dei cristiani, nell’emisfero nord, va dal 18 al 25 gennaio, data proposta nel 1908 da padre Paul Wattson, perché compresa tra la festa della cattedra di san Pietro e quella della conversione di san Paolo; assume quindi un significato simbolico. Nell’emisfero sud, in cui gennaio è periodo di vacanza, le chiese celebrano la Settimana di preghiera in altre date, per esempio nel tempo di Pentecoste (come suggerito dal movimento Fede e Costituzione nel 1926), periodo altrettanto simbolico per l’unità della Chiesa.

JANUARY 18TH-25TH 2026: WEEK OF PRAYER FOR CHRISTIAN UNITY
The Dicastery for Promoting Christian Unity and the Faith and Order Commission of the World Council of Churches have prepared resources for the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity 2026. This material is titled There is one body and one Spirit, just as you were called to the one hope of your calling (Ephesian 4:4). This year material introduces the theological perspective of the Armenian Apostolic Church that is recognized as one of the most ancient Christian communities in the world.
Traditionally the days for the celebration of the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity in the northern hemisphere are January 18th-25th. These days were proposed in 1908 by Fr. Paul Wattson; since they fall between the feast of the Chair of St. Peter and that of the conversion of St. Paul, these days take on a symbolic significance.
In the southern hemisphere, where January is holiday season, churches celebrate the Week of Prayer on other days, for example during Pentecost (as suggested by the Faith and Order movement in 1926), a period equally symbolic for the unity of the Church.
