Nato nel 1928, fu accolto nella nostra casa di Vicenza nel 1940. Per temperamento era taciturno e tenace. Alle difficoltà incontrate nella, scuola fece fronte con volontà indomabile e divenne un missionario pieno d'insospettate iniziative.
Ordinato sacerdote nel 1954, l'anno seguente fu inviato in Indonesia. Là, dopo una veloce preparazione linguistica, ebbe come campo di lavoro la vasta zona di Bagansiapiapi nella parte orientale dell'isola di Sumatra. Per pochi mesi fu col p. Nardello; poi continuò da solo occupandosi subito dei cinesi immigrati, per i quali preparava predichette nella loro lingua. Si diede da fare anche per i lebbrosi e costruì nel loro villaggio una bella chiesetta in legno.
Nel 1958 fu nominato parroco a Pekambaru. Le sue maggiori preoccupazioni in quella missione furono le scuole, che cercò di moltiplicare, e la catechesi. Qualcuno criticò la sua fretta di battezzare, ma lui preferiva la preparazione intensa di pochi mesi a quella che, diluita troppo nel tempo rischiava di perdere il mordente.
Dal 1961 gli fu affidata la cristianità di Swalunto, dove lavorò col catechismo, la visita alle famiglie e le scuole. Rischiò l'esaurimento.
Nel 1966 fu chiamato a Padang per i gruppi sparsi di Nias, discendenti d'antichi schiavi e tagliati fuori dalla società come cittadini di seconda classe. Scoraggiati e inerti, vivacchiavano senza prospettive. Li rianimò organizzando per loro scuole e una cooperativa. Portò la comunità cristiana della zona a formare una parrocchia. Deluso però per non esserne stato fatto parroco, e per la sospensione dei sussidi alle scuolette (costrette a chiudere), nel 1978 chiese di lavorare in altra diocesi, e si trasferì a Jakarta. Passò un paio d'anni felici nella parrocchia di Pademangan.
A questo punto accadde l'imprevisto. Mentre era in Italia per riposo, fu colpito da paralisi alla parte sinistra del corpo (1980). Chiese ugualmente di tornare in Indonesia.
Lavorò ancora con mirabile coraggio, specialmente all'ospedale di Padang. Finché, colpito da emorragia cerebrale, cessò di vivere improvvisamente il 28-2-1991.
Non si presentò certo a mani vuote alle porte del cielo: aveva speso praticamente tutta la vita per il Regno di Dio.

Fr. Francesco Bizzotto died at Padang (Indonesia) on Feb. 28 1991, of cerebral hemorrhage. He was 62 years old, born on July 6 1928 at Cittadella (Padova).
He was welcomed in the Apostolic School at Vicenza in 1940. His will and stamina allowed him to overcome his quiet character, and progress in his studies, and become a missionary with great initiatives.
He professed religious missionary vows on Sept. 11 1946 at S. Pietro in Vincoli at the end of his Novitiate, and was ordained on Oct. 3 1954 at Parma. Fr. Bizzotto was assigned to Indonesia on Oct. 20 1955, and after a brief language period, he started working in the vast area of Bagansiapiapi, in the Eastern part of Sumatra Island. For a few months, he worked with Fr. Nardello, and then he continued by himself, taking care of Chinese immigrants, delivering for them brief homilies in their own language. He also served among the lepers and built a nice wooden church for them.
Fr. Bizzotto was named parish priest at Pekambaru in 1958, and focused his activities around schools and catechesis. He worked at building schools, and had a quick preparation for baptisms, to the criticism of a few; he believed that once the iron is hot, you can work at it, and preferred to have an intense baptismal preparation for a few months instead of a prolonged experience.
He was put in charge of the Christian community of Swalunto in 1961, where again worked in catechism, visiting families and schools, to the point of exhaustion.
After five years of this work, he moved to Padang in 1966, and served the different groups of the Nias, descendants of antique slaves, oftentimes forgotten by society and considered second-class citizens. They were discouraged, and lived without goals in life, at the mercy of others. Fr. Bizzotto organized for them some small schools and a cooperative, so much that the Christian community became a parish. Unfortunately, he hoped to become their pastor, and even the government subsidies for these schools were cut, and they closed. He felt disappointed with this situation so much so that he asked to work in another diocese in 1978, and served in Jakarta where he spent a couple of good years in the parish of Pademangan.
While in Italy for some weeks of rest, he suffered a stroke, which paralyzed his left side of the body in 1980. He was determined to go back to Indonesia, and was able to return there where he assisted with admirable courage the patients at the hospital in Padang, for about 10 years. He finally suffered a cerebral hemorrhage, which brought him to his death on Feb. 28 1991.
Fr. Bizzotto spent most of his life for the service of the Reign of God: the heavenly doors were certainly opened for him. He is buried in the Cemetery of Biara Padang.
