Nella mattinata dell’1.04.2020, nell’Ospedale di Fidenza, è deceduto il P. Guglielmo Camera, dove era stato ricoverato per gravi problemi respiratori.
Il confratello aveva 79 anni, essendo nato il 25.04.1940 a Marinoni di Ardesio (Bergamo – IT).
Nel 1953 il giovane Guglielmo entra nella casa saveriana di Cremona, dove frequenta la scuola media (1953-1956). In seguito passa a Zelarino per le Medie Superiori (1956-1959), per poi entrare in Noviziato a S. Pietro in Vincoli (1959-1960).
Dopo la Prima Professione religiosa-missionaria (fatta il 03.10.1960 a S. Pietro in Vincoli), il giovane Guglielmo continua con il consueto iter scolastico-formativo: liceo a Desio (1960-1963), propedeutica a Parma (1963-1964), prefettato ad Alzano Lombardo (1964-1965), teologia a Parma (1965-1969).
Viene ordinato Presbitero a Parma il 13.10.1968.
Finiti gli studi teologici, p. Guglielmo viene destinato all’Italia: Vice rettore ed insegnante ad Alzano L. (1969-1973), formatore a Cagliari (1973-1974), insegnante a Cremona (1974-1978). In questo periodo consegue la Laurea in Pedagogia presso l’Università Statale a Parma.
Nel 1978 p. Camera parte per Londra per lo studio della lingua inglese (1978-1980). Dopo un altro anno di insegnamento a Cremona (1980-1981), nel settembre del 1981 parte per la Sierra Leone: insegnante e vice parroco a Port Loko (1981-1983), insegnante e vice parroco a Makeni (1983-1988), insegnante al Seminario Interterritoriale in Liberia (1988-1990) e a Makeni (1990-1993).
Dopo un anno sabbatico trascorso a Roma, p. Camera viene destinato all’Italia come Rettore della Teologia di Parma (1994-2000). Dopo un anno trascorso ad Alzano L. come economo locale ed insegnante (2000-2001) inizia il suo servizio come Postulatore, servizio che lo porta sia a concludere i processi di canonizzazione di Guido Maria Conforti e di beatificazione di Anna Maria Adorni e di Benedetta Bianchi Porro, che ad iniziare i processi dei Martiri del Congo e del Burundi. Nello stesso tempo svolge anche l’incarico di Visitatore PPOOMM nei Seminari (2002-2007; 2014-2015) risiedendo a Roma Collegio Conforti (2002-2005; 2008-2011), Roma Casa generalizia Viale Vaticano (2005-2008), S. Pietro in Vincoli (2011-2015), Parma (2015-2020). Nonostante tutto questo carico di lavoro, trova tempo anche per il ministero (ritiri, esercizi …).
“P. Guglielmo era un uomo di fede e di grande amore per la famiglia saveriana. Gli era stato chiesto un nuovo compito (postulazione, ndr) e lui vi si è buttato a capofitto, trovandosi così rigenerato dal nuovo incarico che lo ha trasformato in un esperto della vita del Fondatore e di altri santi” (testimonianza di p. Rebecchi).
Il 1° aprile 2020 p. Camera viene portato dagli Angeli al cospetto dell’Altissimo per ricevere la ricompensa del servitore fedele e buono.

Fr. Guglielmo Camera, s.x. died on April 1st, 2020, in the Hospital of Fidenza, where he had been hospitalized for serious respiratory problems. Our Confrere, born on April 25th, 1940 in the town of Marinoni di Ardesio (Bergamo – IT), was now 79 years old.
In 1953, young Guglielmo entered the Xaverian House of Cremona (1953-1956) to begin his High School education and finished it in the Xaverian House of Zelarino (1956-1959). He then entered the Xaverian Novitiate House of St. Pietro in Vincoli (RA) (1959-1960). On October 3rd,1960, Guglielmo Camera celebrated his First Religious Missionary Profession.
Right after, Guglielmo Camera continued with his school training education: College years in Desio (1960-1963), ‘Propedeutica’ in Parma (1963-1964), Prefect of Xaverian Students in the Xaverian House of Alzano Lombardo (1964-1965), Theology Studies in Parma (1965-1969).
Guglielmo Camera was ordained Priest in Parma on October 13th,1968.
Having finished with his Theological Studies, Fr. Gugliemo was assigned to minister in the Italian Region: Assistant Rector and Teacher at the Xaverian House of Alzano Lombardo (1969-1973), Formation Director in the Xaverian House of Cagliari (1973-1974), Teacher at the Xaverian House of Cremona (1974-1978). During this period, Fr. Camera received a Bacheor’s Degree in Pedagogy from the State University in Parma.
In 1978, Fr. Camera leaves for London to study the English language (1978-1980). After another year as Teacher in the House of Cremona, in the month of September 1981, he left for Sierra Leon. He was, first, assigned as Teacher and Assistant Parish Priest in Porto Loco (1981-1983), Teacher and Assistant Parish Priest in Makeni (1983-1988), Teacher at the International Seminary in Liberia (1988-1990) and at Makeni (1990-1993).
After a sabbatical year spent in Rome, Fr. Guglielmo Camera was assigned to Italy as Rector of the Xaverian Theology Community of Parma (1994-2000). After one year spent in the House of Alzano Lombardo as local Treasurer and Teacher (2000 – 2001), Fr. Guglielmo Camera was named ‘Postulator’, a service that led him both to conclude the process of canonization of Guido Maria Conforti and beatification of Anna Maria Adorni and Benedetta Bianchi Porro, and also to initiate the process of canonization of the Xaverian Martyrs of Congo and Burundi.
At the same time, Fr. Guglielmo Camera, was named PPOOMM VISITOR TO THE DIOCESAN SEMINARIES (2002-2007; 2014-2015) while residing at Xaverian International College in Rome, then, at the House of the Xaverian Generalate in Rome in Viale Vaticano (2005-2008), then in St. Pietro in Vincoli (2011-2015), then in Parma (2015-2020). Despite all the workload, he always found time and energies for ministry and service (Retreats – Conferences, etc.).
“Fr. Guglielmo Camera was a man of faith and of great love for the Xaverian Family. He had been asked for a new task (postulation, ndr) and he threw himself headlong into it. The new assignment seemed to regenerate him and turned him into an expert on the life of our Founder and of other Saints” (testimony of Fr. Rebecchi).
On April 1st, 2020, Fr. Guglielmo Camera is brought by the Angels before the High God to receive the reward of the faithful and good servant.
