Intorno alle ore 20:00 di domenica 5 aprile 2020, dopo lunga malattia, si è spento nella Casa Madre di Parma P. Alessandro Parmiggiani. Aveva 84 anni, essendo nato il 23.11.1935, a Casaletto di Viadana (Mantova – IT).
Proveniente dal Seminario di Cremona, nel settembre del 1957 il giovane Sandro entra nella casa saveriana di S. Pietro in Vincoli, dove inizia subito l’anno di noviziato, alla fine del quale emette la Prima Professione religiosa-missionaria (15.09.1958). In seguito va a Parma per lo studio della teologia (1958-1962).
Viene ordinato Presbitero a Parma il 15.10.1961.
Finiti gli studi teologici, p. Sandro viene destinato al Pakistan Orientale (attuale Bangladesh) dove, dopo un anno di studio della lingua a Barisal (1962-1963), viene mandato a Satkhira come direttore dell’orfanotrofio e vice parroco (1963-1965).
A causa di problemi di salute, p. Sandro rientra in Italia, dove svolge dapprima un servizio nella casa di Piacenza come confessore (1965-1966), e poi come Direttore Spirituale nella casa di Desio (1966-1969).
Nel 1969 p. Sandro parte per il Regno Unito dove lavora come vice maestro dei novizi a Glasgow (1969-1970), e Direttore Spirituale a Coatbridge (1970-1971).
Dopo un corso per formatori frequentato a Roma (1971-1972), p. Sandro viene mandato a lavorare dapprima a Piacenza come insegnante (1972-1973), poi come prefetto nel Collegio Internazionale di Roma (1973-1979), poi come animatore interno a Brescia (1979-1983).
Dal 1983 al 2013 p. Sandro vive a Cremona dove svolge diversi ruoli: formatore (1983-1988), economo (1988-1991), animatore missionario (1991-2013), sostituto rettore (1996-2009), ministero (2008-2013).
In seguito alla chiusura della casa di Cremona, p. Sandro va a Brescia, dove lavora come incaricato dei benefattori (2013-2014). Nell’autunno del 2014 si trasferisce definitivamente a Parma dove continua a svolgere il suo ministero.

All’inizio del 2020 le condizioni di salute di p. Sandro degradano. Il 5 aprile 2020 l’anima di p. Sandro sale in cielo per contemplare dal vivo quel paradiso che aveva intravisto sulla terra.

Fr. Alessandro Parmiggiani, s.x., after a long illness, died in the Mother House of Parma, on Sunday April 5th, 2020. He was born on November 23rd, 1935 in the town of Casaletto di Viadana (Mantova – IT), and was now 84 years old.
Coming from the Diocesan Seminary of Cremona, young Sandro, in September 1957, entered the Xaverian House of St. Peter in Vincoli (RA), where immediately he begins the Year of Novitiate. At the end of it, Sandro Parmiggiani celebrated his First Religious Missionary Profession on September 15th, 1958. Then, he moved to Parma for the study of Theology (1958-1962).
Fr. Alessandro Parmigiani was ordained Priest in Parma on October 15th, 1961.
Having finished with his theological studies, Fr. Sandro Parmiggiani was sent to East Pakistan (now Bangladesh). After one year of language study in the city of Barisal (1962-1963), Fr. Sandro was sent to Satkhira as Director of the Orphanage and as Assistant Parish Priest (1963-1965).
Due to health problems, Fr. Sandro was recalled to Italy, where he, first, ministered in the Xaverian House of Piacenza as Minister of reconciliation (1965-1966), and then as Spiritual Director in the Xaverian House of Desio (1966-1969).
In 1969, Fr. Parmiggiani left for the United Kingdom, where he ministered as Assistant Master to the Novices in the city of Glasgow (1969-1970), and as Spiritual director in the Xaverian House of Coatbridge (1970-1971).
After an updating Theology Course in Rome (1971-1972), Fr. Alessandro Parmiggiani was sent to minister as teacher in the Xaverian House of Piacenza (1972-1973), then as Prefect of Students in the International Xaverian College in Rome (1973-1979). From 1979 to 1983, Fr. Parmiggiani was asked to transfer to Brescia, as Formator of the Xaverian Missionary Students.
From 1983 to 2013, Sandro lived and ministered in the Xaverian House of Cremona, where he served in various ways: as teacher (1983-1988), as Local House Treasurer (1988-1991), as Minister of Mission Education (1991-2013), then as Assistant Rector of the Xaverian Community (1996-2009), and as local missionary educator (2008-2013).
Following the closure of the Xaverian House of Cremona, Fr. Sandro returned to Brescia, where he ministered as assistant to the Benefactors (2013-2014). In the Fall 2014, Fr. Parmiggiani was transferred permanently to the Mother House of Parma and continued with his service in the area of mission ministry …
He wrote: “How beautiful it is to be a missionary and to feel that you can contemplate paradise from down here on earth!” (from his contribution to “Missionari Saveriani” of April 2005).
At the beginning of 2020, the health condition of Fr. Alessandro Parmiggiani deteriorated. It was on April 5th, 2020, when Fr. Alessandro Parmiggiani went to heaven to contemplate that glory of God, to which he had already glimpsed here on earth.
