A Salamanca G.to, nella casa del Noviziato, alle 10.40 della domenica 2.8.98, è morto il P. Giuseppe Scremin. Le condizioni del P. Giuseppe, da quasi dieci anni dolorosamente provato dal morbo di Parkinson e poi anche di Alzheimer, nelle ultime settimane si erano aggravate, ma non al punto da far prevedere una fine così ravvicinata.
Aveva 73 anni compiuti, essendo nato a Vallonara (VI) il 19.3.1925.
P. Scremin entrò nella casa di Vicenza nell’ottobre del 1937, dopo aver frequentato le prime due classi delle medie nel Collegio Vescovile di Bassano del Grappa (VI). Percorse l’iter formativo saveriano allora in vigore: terza media a Vicenza, Ginnasio Superiore a Grumone, Noviziato e Prima Professione (8.9.41) a S. Pietro in Vincoli, Liceo e Teologia a Parma dove fu ordinato presbitero il 7 marzo 1948.
Destinato nel 1949 alla casa del Ginnasio Superiore di Zelarino, fu successivamente Prefetto, Promotore vocazionale, Vicerettore e, dal 1954 al 1960, Rettore.
P. Scremin svolse con passione il suo compito di formatore e, nello stesso tempo, avviò e in parte realizzò quella che fu la struttura della casa di Zelarino dal 1960 al 1980.
Nel 1960 fu inviato in Messico dove giunse il 24.2.1961 e dove, eccetto un anno di aggiornamento a Roma (73-74) e un anno di cure a Parma (91-92), trascorse tutto il resto della sua vita. Fu dapprima Rettore a Mazatlan. Incaricato poi di dare inizio alla Circoscrizione Saveriana del Messico, fu Superiore Religioso e, dal 1965 al 1970, Delegato Generale della nuova Circoscrizione. Ritornò, quindi, alla sua attività preferita, la formazione: fu Rettore della casa di S. Juan del Rio, Maestro dei Novizi dal 1978 al 1990. Negli ultimi sette anni, avviato dal morbo di Parkinson per gli aspri sentieri dell’inattività e della sofferenza, offrì la sua preghiera e il suo sacrificio per i confratelli e i giovani che lo accudirono sempre con tanto affetto.
Per la Regione del Messico il P. Scremin è stato “un personaggio chiave – ha scritto il P. Natalio Paganelli, Regionale – il fratello che, per incarico della Direzione Generale, ha iniziato il cammino formativo nella Regione, è stato lui a cercare il terreno e a costruire la prima scuola apostolica in México, dove nel 1963 sono entrati i primi apostolini. A lui, assieme al P. Paolo Zurlo, é toccata anche la costruzione della nostra casa di Guadalajara…
Sopra la porta di entrata della scuola apostolica di San Juan del Rio il P. José ha fatto mettere un mosaico con una bella corona e con la scritta 'per quella incorruttibile', é vero, tutto quello che il P. Scremin ha fatto, l'ha fatto sempre per la 'maggior gloria di Dio”.
P. Scremin ha veramente vissuto quanto scrisse nella domanda per la Professione Perpetua il 14.9.46: “… Se sono gioiosamente fiero oggi di dire che appartengo con giuramento a Dio, quanto mai lo sarò quando il mio giuramento sarà svincolato da ogni riserva di tempo per confondersi con l’eternità divina?”.
Il Signore lo accolga nel suo Paradiso.

Fr. Giuseppe Scremin died in the Novitiate house of Salamanca, Mexico on Sunday Aug. 2 1998, after a ten-year stretch of suffering Parkinson and Alzheimer.
He was 73 years old, born at Vallonara (Vicenza) on March 19 1925.
He joined the Xaverians at Vicenza in Oct. 1937 after middle school. He moved to Grumone, and professed Religious Missionary vows on Sept. 8 1941 after the year of Novitiate at S. Pietro in Vincoli. Then after theology studies in Parma, he was ordained priest on March 7 1948.
His first assignment was to Zelarino, as Vocation director, vice-rector and from 1954 to 1960 as Rector of the community. He prepared himself in the formation field, and still was the one who built the structure which was used from 1960 to 1980 for high school.
Assigned to Mexico in 1960, he spent the rest of his life there, except for a couple of years of studies in Rome (1973-74) and of health care in Parma (1991-92). He was named Rector of Mazatlan, Provincial Superior and General Delegate from 1965 to 1970.
In 1977, he went to Salamanca, where he began a new work, a quiet and hidden work of formator and sculptor of souls, teacher of consecrated life, patient spiritual director. “He shared with the novices a great love for the Congregation and for its missionary cause,” remarked Fr. Pisano.
The last seven years of his life were spent in prayer and sacrifice due to Parkinson disease. On the occasion of his 50th of Religious Profession (Sept. 8 1991), the Superior General, Fr. F. Marini, wrote to him: “We thank God who blessed you with His gifts. It is my duty to thank you for your long service in the field of formation both in Italy and in Mexico. You did that with uncommon tact, dedication, and faith.”
His answer, however, described his interpretation of things: “I must confess that the Good Lord sent me this Parkinson disease to bring me to a humiliating inactivity, patience and prayer, with the goal of fixing whatever was broken. In any case: May God be ever blessed!”
Fr. Natalio Paganelli, Regional superior, wrote of him: “He was certainly a key figure, a confrere who began the formative journey in our Region, and he was the one who sought the land to build the first apostolic school in Mexico, back in 1963, with the advent of the first small group of young students. Together with Fr. Paolo Zurlo, he build our house in Guadalajara... On the entrance door of the apostolic school of San Juan del Rio, Fr. Josè put a mosaic with a beautiful crown with the words 'for the incorruptible, heavenly one'. Truly, Fr. Scremin did everything for the 'Greater Glory of God'.”
In his request for Perpetual Profession, Fr. Scremin wrote: "I am truly proud today to say that I belong to the Congregation, by my promise to God, till that day when my promise will be freed of any personal reservations of time and space, molded in Divine Eternity." May the Lord welcome him into Paradise.
